    Is Dumping Syndrome Common

I had RNY in Jan 2017 and I experienced no dumping at all. I did vomit a couple of times early in my recovery due to eating too quickly and eating foods that were too dense, but other than that, I haven't had any issues. I am able to eat basically anything in small quantities - in moderation, of course! I'm not gorging on sweets like I used to, but I'll have a small bite of cake or a cookie every once in a while. Strangely, I rarely have cravings for sweets since my surgery, and I used to have the biggest sweet tooth! This surgery has been a great tool for me to finally learn moderation, which has always been my goal. I didn't want to become too obsessed with having a 100% 'perfect' diet, because I feel I would just be turning one addiction into another if that makes sense. I feel I can sustain my current diet for a long time without feeling like I'm being deprived or not enjoying food at all. I've lost 121 pounds so far, so it's definitely working! Having RNY was the best decision I ever made. Good luck to you!

    Pre op diet

I was on Optifast shakes only for 3 weeks, and I lost 25 pounds in that time.

    Low Energy

Thanks for the responses. I will try upping my iron and see if that helps at all. I guess it's pretty common to feel this way for a while after surgery!

    What is the recovery time?

I was off work for 4 weeks. I don't think I would have felt comfortable going back after only 1-2 weeks, even though I work in an office. 3 weeks might have been doable, but I didn't want to risk it. I was in quite a bit of pain for the first couple of weeks. I think it's beneficial to have time at home to get used to your new way of eating and let your body heal.

    Low Energy

Hi all. I had my surgery nearly 3 months ago, and I am SO low energy! I feel lethargic all the time, and I fall asleep at 8 or 9 pm every night! I used to be a night owl. I am eating well, and definitely getting in all of my Protein, Vitamins and Fluid. Is this normal? Is it just my body adjusting to the low calorie intake? Any input would be appreciated.

    What's everyone's weightless so far?

    Surgery date was Jan 5th 2017. HW - 358 SW (before pre-op diet) - 344 SW (before surgery) - 319 CW - 280
  8. Personally, I thought I would only tell close family and friends, but I started finding it was actually easier to just tell anyone who commented or asked. I know that won't work for everyone, but surprisingly, I haven't had a bad comment yet. Mostly people just notice my weight loss and say I'm looking great, and if they ask more questions, I tell them I had surgery. It's a hard process, and definitely nothing to be ashamed of!

    Am I doing something wrong?

I am having the same problem. I had gastric bypass on Jan 5th, lost 26 pounds in the first 3-4 weeks, and have only lost 2 or 3 pounds since! This stall has been very frustrating, but I keep reminding myself that this is normal and the body needs time to catch up. As long as we do what we can to hit our vitamin, protein, fluid and exercise goals, the only thing we can do is wait!
  10. Woohoo you're my op twin!Interesting that most of us are on different diet schedules. I know my hospital says 2 weeks for everyone. Which procedure are you having done? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm having RNY! I hope everything goes smoothly.Thank you! I hope so too! I shall give you the low down (hopefully without any horror stories!) How are doing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Finally getting out of the hospital today! I had really horrible nausea and vomiting for the first two days, most likely from the anesthetic. Also some pretty bad pain. I didn't pass gas for the first time until today, so my body still feels like it's full of air. I am feeling better slowly, but the surgery was a lot tougher on me than I expected. I still feel really weak and have trouble walking. Hoping this will all be worth it eventually! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Are you feeling better yet? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes, things have definitely improved! Thanks! How are you? I'm feeling like myself again. Only some minor pain left here and there. My strength is back, which is great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    January Surgeries

Right now I feel basically zero hunger, and I'm just trying to force myself to get in some nutrition! I find it really hard to get in enough liquids and food. I'm sure it'll get a bit easier down the road, but right now it's still a bit uncomfortable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    January Surgeries

Thank you! I am finally home and doing better. I had pretty bad nausea and pain for the first few days, but it's getting a bit easier every day. I just had some porridge, my first actual food since the surgery! Things are looking up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  15. My surgery is tomorrow, and I am a ball of nerves. I'm considered low risk, so I'm really hoping everything goes well and there are no complications! I've got to finish packing my hospital bag tonight. I can't believe it's here! How is everyone doing?
