    Amazed at being qualified

Tgrow....I'm going to Temple Bariatric with Dr. Clarke. She did my cousin's sleeve and the results are simply amazing! My cousin is about 2 inches shorter than me and her BMI was the same (40)......I haven't seen her at her current size in about 16 yrs-she's my inspiration! 7. Hello everyone! I'm in the Philadelphia PA area. Went to an information session about bariatric surgery back in June 2016 and decided on the SLEEVE. Wasn't actually sure if I would qualify at 220lbs-but to my amazement and delight, I met the BMI minimum threshold of 40 (guess being short worked to my advantage this time! LOL). Have completed almost all of my pre-approval appointments-just gotta get 1 more test/procedure then meet with Pysch dr before seeing my surgeon again and hopefully getting a surgery date. How many people in this group that had some sort of bariatric surgery went in needing to lose more than 50 lbs but less than 100lbs? My goal is to lose about 65-75lbs.......any more than that and I'll look like a drug addict or someone with an eating disorder. I know that I'll be out of work for about 6 weeks (based on the timeline my surgeon gave me); I'm wondering what to say at work if asked why I'm going out for 6 weeks- I want to say I have to have surgery, but really don't want to go into details on the type. I also want whatever I say to jibe with the weight loss I'll display upon my return to work. Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated! *Sorry for thr rambling* Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App
  8. Well, best of luck to you! I had to reschedule both of my appts because I woke up a hour AFTER I was supposed to be at my pysch appt.....Now that appointment isn't till the end of Dec 2016 and the surgeon is in Jan 2017......hoping that I'll get a date by the end of Jan 2017 tho....going on a cruise in April 2017! I started at 220lbs (size 16/18), am now at 208lbs (14)-hoping to lose whatever I need to be a size 8/10 or even a 6/8! I'm only 5'2", so that'll be a nice change! Feeling Alone

Will your insurance pay for any type of bariatric surgery? If they will, you should find out out from them and from your doctor EXACTLY WHAT is the reason for the delay/denial. You should also look into another doctor before going to Mexico...........IJS-why pay out of pocket if the insurance company's written policy is to pay? Is it possible that your job has some type of exclusion on covering this type of surgery? That may be the reason for so many obstacles......Good Luck with whatever you decide to do! And another thing, it also shouldn't surprise you that some of your biggest naysayers will fall into one of two categories: 1) skinny people who have NEVER TRULY had to see the scale continually rise, & 2) overweight people like ourselves-these are the ones who state the following: "curvy & loving it", "plus size & proud". I know all about those types of statements because at one time or another, I've said them. The people in these groups are also JEALOUS of the fact that you're embarking on journey that will not only make you healthier, BUT SMALLER (no more raiding your closets/drawers for clothes too small for you). DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE NEGATIVE NELLIES-DO YOU AND BE HAPPY!!!! Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

    My VSG story

Congrats! U took the needed steps towards a healthier u! By having it done at such a young age, many of the pitfalls of yo-yo dieting as an adult will now b avoided! I didn't need it at yur age, but I did 15 years ago (I'm 48 now).....it just wasn't available; only RNY was done at that time, even when the lap band became available, I wasn't a fan of a foreign body being placed n me! Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

  15. Hello everyone! Currently on the path to join the LOSERS BENCH via the Sleeve. Have read a lot of different posts, but haven't seen this specific issue addressed.... I have a FitBit Charge HR; I downloaded the app for it onto my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge; it's also synced to the SHealth app pre-installed on the phone. Should I still download the MyFitnessPal app? If so, why? What are the differences between SHealth and MyFitnessPal? Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

I've come to the realization that people won't support you because they're envious! You're taking steps to become a healthier version of the person they're used to. If you're anything like me, you probably have a lot of functions at your home for family/friends that involve food. They won't say it, but they're afraid you won't have their favorite foods available to them anymore. I picked up on that vibe when I heard some comments made when another family member had the sleeve.......I decided then just to discuss my healthier eating choices. Only a select few really know what I'm prepping my body for and the REAL reason for the changes.....Everyone else will just see me melt away and attribute it to the nutrional changes I've talked about and made. Amazed at being qualified

Armygalbonnie...... Thanks for your response..I'm taking 6 weeks because my doctor recommended being back on regular foods before going back to work (she said she's found her patients have had the most success if they're already eating regular foods-albeit smaller portions). As far as a "story" goes, I want to be consistent with whatever I wind up saying; unfortunately just saying "female" surgery won't cut it.......my department has about 40 people-only 3 of which are men. "Female" surgery would end a convo with them (not really an issue with them anyway-as I only run into 1 of them on a regular basis).....it's the women on my shift-2nd shift-who are like family, just not the family I'd want to share the true nature of my surgery with-& the hens I always overlap with from 1st shift.......
