    Pre op appointment

This is what I've told those who have inquired about why I had surgery: I actually had a hiatial hernia repair with removal of adhesions from a previous laparoscopic procedure done years ago; thr adhesions were the root cause of a lot of complications I was having. Was considering the sleeve, but my other health issues were WAY more pressing. Funny thing is, my dr said that with the procedures I had done, I could successfully lose the same amount of weight I would have lost if I had the sleeve surgery! So, I'll still get the benefits because I'm following a healthier diet/exercise plan! This detailed explantion has seemed to shut down well meaning but NOSEY coworkers, family members, and friends.

    Nails and polish remover

All ten of my fingers were painted a lovely shade of purple (overlay with gel polish) before surgery and all ten were still painted afterwards.....
  3. It is finally here! My surgery day is today! Gotta be to the hospital by 1pm! I have already prayed for a good outcome! One of my support systems will drive me to the hospital, one will meet me there! Hubby will be there as soon as he gets off work! Everything's moving right along! Phase 2 of my new healthier lifestyle begins!!

    Today's the DAY!!

@BriRampazi, I FEEL GREAT!!! 4 days post and I am down to 1 dose daily of nausea and pain meds. No problems with liquid intake; vitamins don't bother me (2 Flintstones Complete Chewables daily-will start calcium and iron after 1st post op). No problems moving around. Took a minute to find a comfortable sleep position though.....for now, I lay half on my back (with a backrest) and half on my side.....actually quite comfy!
  5. Surgery went great! I'm so excited to begin my new life!!!!

@AnneEllloit, I'm sorry that you haven't have a good experience. That being said, please stop being a "Negative Nellie" and trying to discourage people from making a choice that may be what's best for them. Most people will go into this knowing that portions will change. And you can eat out again, as long as your not looking to overindulge.....No one should be eating more than 4oz of protein at one sitting, but restaurants habitually serve steaks that are at least 6oz......they encourage people to overeat. Any one who has decided on such a drastic lifestyle change (myself included), is saying that they're no longer gonna take what is put in our faces to eat. *Most of us were raised "to clean our plates", so we were conditioned to overeat* I applaud everyone who has decided to eat on their own terms.
  8. Your doctors will want you to losr weight to show your motivation. Don't worry about your BMI falling below 40......the doctors will submit your very 1st weight you had with them
  9. I have finally joined the LOSERS BENCH! My sleeve was done 3/2. Felt nauseated as crap right after surgery, but Zofran has helped. Morphine/Diluadid, and the PCA pump were my best friends in the hospital. Didn't experience the gas I heard so much about.....I think it was because I read what so many have said about walking........I did a total of 20 laps around the unit before discharge! 1, then 2, then 4, then 6, then 7 more! My only issues were peeing every 3 hrs at night when I got home, finding a comfortable position to sleep in, and coughing without it killing my stomach. Overall, I'm so happy!!!!!!!

  23. Ummmm....you do realize that different types of lighting can account for tonal changes in a photograph????? Hair color changes made you question the veracity of the picture???? SMH....I guess if anyone decides to post a WLS before/after picture, they'll need to make sure the pictures are taken with THE EXACT SAME CLOTHING, HAIR, POSES, LIGHTING, BACKDROPS, ETC to satisfy any naysayers. Why be so disparaging......????? Just be happy for a person-& if you can't, DON'T COMMENT! Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App Uhm yea I realize that difference in lighting can change things, I'm not an idiot. What made me question it initially and apparently others as well is the amount of weight lost in 3 weeks. Because of that I looked closer and imo it looks like a different person. If you don't agree that's fine. If OP wants to defend herself she can. Calm down. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App I didn't say you were an idiot .....I just don't get why instead of sounding judgemental or condescending, you or others couldn't have said something like "Great job! I see the new hair color too!" (or similar)...but that's just MY HUMBLE OPINION on the matter. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

    high BMI only

I have BCBS of ILL.....my BMI was 40 back in June 2016 went I 1st met with my surgeon. I got approved on that number alone. I have no co-morbidities, so if my BMI had not been at 40 or above, I would not have gotten approved. Most insurance companies require a BMI of at least 40 w/o co-morbidities, and at least 2 co-morbidities if it's between 35 & 39. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App
