Do they not have you on a liver shrink diet prior to surgery? That would cause a loss.
-
So I bought one of those scales from costco that is supposed to tell you your body fat %, and the thing just errored on me when I stood on it :-( My BMI is 38. I am pre surgery and hoping to be able to track my fat loss % as an additional way to see progress for the tough times when the scale is not moving. On Amazon I see some that are hand held for around $25. I also see calipers and they look complicated. What does everyone use to measure fat loss?

Anyone 5'3-ish and HW around 230?
RJrocks replied to SunshineUnicorn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did your surgeon say your weight had to be before surgery? SunshineUnicorn There is no specific loss requirement for me. I was told I will have to drink Optifast for 2 weeks prior to shrink my liver. And if they open my up and my liver is too fat, they will close me up and make me start the year process again. I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)
RJrocks replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look fabulous! Is that THE dress? The blue/cream one that almost broke the Internet? I have a very deep voice. Think James Earl Jones or Barry White deep. Even when I was (really) fat, women would constantly gush over me and my voice - even if Mrs. LittleBill was present! She is used to it by now, but some of them get pretty demonstrative, and they are always asking me to "say something". The standard thing I say is "Oh baby, oh baby" whenever something like this comes up. I am not sure I am going to tell her you think I look good though, even though I I know it is in the most manly way possible. You know, just in case. At any rate, thank you. I appreciate it. I would straight up buy some ankle weights and wear them. I don't care who bashes me for saying so. It's so close. Don't let this door close if you have decided this is what is right for you. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App

What was your moment?
RJrocks replied to triplethreat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went to a Dr. on referral of a friend for injections that help control hunger hormones. After the usual hight and weight blood pressure ect. he sat me down and told me about the injections, but also said because your bmi is over 40 (40.2) you qualify for bariatric surgery, would that interest you? I was shocked. I didn't know how overweight I was. I tried the injections and had some rough sode effects. At my 4 week follow up I decided to look into bariatric surgery with the knowledge the process is 6 to 12 months. I am at 11 months now and amount 3 months away. I have hope now. Thanks Suanja for your kind words. I would be lying if I said I followed any of the instructions. No diet. No exercise, still grazing just in smaller portions. Smh I still don't see where I have lost anything. Mentally I need to get in the game otherwise this will continue to be a wasted opportunity. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App You have lost at least 20 just from your waist! It seems like you are just taking each day as it comes and then just being in the moment to much. Try planning exactly what you are going to eat for a week and then buy everything you will need. Follow that. If you manage to stick to the eating plan for a week, do the same but maybe add one day of exercise. Or even just a long walk. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App

Every time I read these posts I wonder if I will feel the same. My weight and goals are identical and while surgery is still 3 months out, I feel like I would be thrilled with that rate of loss. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App

Apps to track inches and weight loss?
RJrocks posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I can only seem to find apps to check weight loss. I would like something to also track and hold all my measurements. It must exist yet I keep looking and have downloaded a fee and none seem to have this. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App -
Hi Trish, For me it has been a very long process. I was referred last March. I had orientation in June. At this point I expect to have my surgery in May, I will find out for sure in March. So my guess is 14 months start to finish. Also, I do not have the choice for VGS. At orientation which included a wide variety of BMIs that OHIP only covers RNY. The surgeon will perform VSG under some conditions, but that it was usually a decision they make in the operating room. I was really upset about this at first but now I have come around to preferring RNY. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App

From what I can gather they are looking for a few red flags. They want to know you have support, that alcohol addiction is not an issue, that financially you can afford Protein shakes and Vitamins. They want to ensure that is you have depression that you are stable and on meds that are working. They also want to ensure you are mentally ready for change. Show us a picture of your closet!
RJrocks replied to RJrocks's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I do have clothes size 4 to 18. As I purge the bigger sizes, it will be nice to pull it all out and fill the closet back in. But, I once I stabilize at a size I hope to purge everything else. My NSV is to have a closet with only clothes that fit. It can be sparse, that would be fine. I just really want to only look at clothes that fit for once in my life! How to deal with Coworkers knowing you're getting this surgery! Tell or not to tell?
RJrocks replied to julia454's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't be telling. Two of my close friends are so negative about girl we know who had it. So if I can't tell me close friends, I certianly can't tell my coworkers IMO. I work with all men. None of them would blink an eye if I did tell them. They may have a convo about it but not so much gossipy. I just feel like I don't owe people this. No one NEEDS to know. I am entitled to my privacy. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App -
PTSD from being fat?
RJrocks replied to BrookeTiffani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I agree. I also am emotionally scared from being fat. Its not easy and perhaps counseling can help. But its not PTSD. At all. I have both. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App -
Surgery Decision->Switching from getting the Sleeve to RNY and Scared
RJrocks replied to teedsg's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was leaning towards sleeve. Sadly, in Canada I don't have the option so if I want it covered I have to go RNY. The more research I do about obesity, and why it is so hard to loose weight and keep it off it comes down to gut flora and microbs. This is one of the reasons RNY is more successful for large weight loss. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App -
No, I don't think you have a right to get mad. If the visit as even more than 2 hours people want food. If you set out ground rules that you would only come if there wasn't food involved, that would be different. I fully expect to have to turn down, make excuses or arise late/after dinner to make my new life style work once I get there. And I know it will be hard and awkward. PTSD from being fat?
RJrocks replied to BrookeTiffani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
An eating disorder, yes. Emotional scarring, yes. Struggles to put your true size to reality probably. PTSD, no. Not unless you suffered a close call with death due to your size such as a heart attack. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App -
60 pounds in 2 months is it possible?
RJrocks replied to DogMom1204's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am interested in your inches measurement. What all do you measure and add up? Great to see an additional way to see results. I planned on doing this too but just seperate. Arms, waist and upper thigh. Adding them seems like to might be more rewarding. Do you do hips as well? Both arms and legs? Thanks :-) Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App -
You could do that, or cut out salt and do a 24 hour liquid day to give you a taste of what's to come. That could work too! Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App
