No Special Pre-Op Diet?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Johnnyrud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd double-check with your surgeon again, then follow what he says. They are all so different in their requirements. As for the cath, they inserted and removed mine while I was under so the only after effect was a little burning when I first urinated. -

September 2017 operation day
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Melinda Stief's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best advice I can give, and advice that I sadly did not get, is to start eating now how you will be eating after surgery. Every pound you lose today is a pound you don't have to worry about after surgery. -
Anyone else have mood swings that you can't seem to control? Need advice!
Navigating the Wilderness replied to skearbey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1 month after surgery: Boss: I don't understand why we can't just make things work on this project. Me: I don't understand why you can't get what I'm saying through your fuckin' head. Boss: I don't need to put up with this from you, and he walked away. Me, Loud enough for all to hear: Bye Felicia! Spent 2 months in the doghouse for that one. -

Retrying Refried Beans for the Relcutant
Navigating the Wilderness replied to VanDemonian's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My only complaint about refried beans is the ridiculous amount of carbs they have. Other than that, refried beans with salsa is one of my favorites!! -

Navigating the Wilderness replied to lynmar's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
The total reputation number is the amount of 'likes' you received on all the content you have contributed to the site. For example, I just 'liked' your question, now your total reputation is a '4' instead of a '3'. -
That's great to hear!! Yes, the 24 hour test would be the next step.

Choosing a Protein
Navigating the Wilderness replied to faithmel's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Absolutely they would. This is a business, they will sell anything they can legitimately make money on. I stand by my opinion that it should be avoided, but if your surgeon agrees with it, go for it. I'm glad you have had success with it! -
Pain medication concerns

That is quite a lot. Having said that, it could also just be your body adjusting or an infection. -
"Side effects" of WLS
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Joann454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Seems like they should list these side effects in addition to all the standard doom and gloom ones. It would help many more people take the plunge. -

Choosing a Protein
Navigating the Wilderness replied to faithmel's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Because they are being sued, and because a tablespoon holds 15g of dry weight, but they claim it is equal to 30g of protein. So not liking their math. https://www.law360.com/articles/865678/protein-powder-maker-accuses-rival-of-false-advertising -
Struggling with Fluids
Navigating the Wilderness replied to faithmel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can you? Yes. Should you? No. You could try sugar free sweet tea, though if that helps you get your fluids in. I personally would stick with water and shakes. SF Jello would also count towards your goal along with the SF pops. -
Choosing a Protein
Navigating the Wilderness replied to faithmel's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am getting to the point where I truly believe if you asked 100 different surgeons, you would have 100 different answers to this question. Well, maybe more depending on whom you asked in the office! So, to answer your question, I would always say the safest route is to follow what the Surgeon recommended. I know this is kind of a cop out, but if you want to be in compliance, then I seriously would consider using what they tell you to use. I was directed to use only Unjury, or Isopure. I used both, they were fine, my guess is any other legit protein maker would have been fine as well. Legit being defined as one that has at least 20g of protein per serving, and is not filled with sugar. Also excluding Genepro here, I hate to even list that product in a post, but just in case someone tells you to use it. Search the forum if you want to know why. As for the vitamins, this is even more important than the protein when it comes to following your surgeon's guidelines. Obviously you will need higher doses of vitamins than non-bariatric users to make up for what you are missing. If you want to use a different brand than what your doctor recommends, just do a nutritional label check and make sure they have the same amounts of vitamins. Of course, not all vitamins are created equal either, even if they say they have the same Daily Value percentage. So, once again, especially in the beginning, stick to what the surgeon recommended. Congrats on your first steps in this journey. I wish you many successes in the future!! -

The divorce diet
Navigating the Wilderness replied to bhackenberg1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most of the divorces directly related to WLS tend to come from couples who have one spouse who changes eating lifestyles and another who does not. If one tries eating healthy and the other continues bad habits there will be inevitable issues. The other common issue is jealous spouses. It doesn't seem like that will be an issue for you from what you wrote. congrats on taking the big step to a healthier you! -

Swallowing pills
Navigating the Wilderness replied to NYCGAL000's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, the best thing I did was haul in a bag of all my drugs. Told him to pick what was acceptable and what needed to be crushed. I did not have any extended release meds though. -

HEARTBURN suggestions?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to sylvia2017's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Everyone one on here is right. A PPI should fix you up. Just be careful because long-term use (as in years) of a PPI has some negative side effects. -
Swallowing pills
Navigating the Wilderness replied to NYCGAL000's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Haha, yeah, he said the worst was 31 Amoxicillin tabs that another doctor had proscribed without fully understanding the patient had been sleeved. There are still several tablets I take without crushing, but none are any bigger than an aspirin tablet.
