    Watermelon

It is also considered a pulp fruit which on my plan is not allowed for 6 months.

    Drinking alcohol

All that the other posters said, plus keep in mind if it is carbonated it will cause some gas and bloating. I wouldn't want a burning bloated sleeve on my birthday.

    One week follow up

Very happy to hear of your good news. Life begins when you start feeling good about yourself!

    How is you hunger level?

I don't get hungry in the way I used to. Like blizair09, if I get caught up in work and forget to eat I can tell it is time when my stomach starts rumbling and I feel kinda crappy. I try never to get that stage, but it happens. That being said I can calm my stomach with some water if needed immediately, something I was never able to do before surgery.

    Feeling kind of betrayed

Well, I am a guy and married, but I love making people pay when they disrespect me. Honestly, if you told him as many times as you said that you don't want chocolate and he still gave it to you, then he is either a complete asshat or he doesn't care about you. My suggestion? Wait until his Birthday and buy him a can of dog food then tell him enjoy it just like you do chocolate.

    WLS Poster Child

I told everyone at work and all my acquaintances that I was having surgery. That being said, I don't see why if people question you about the surgery you can't just tell them it was a personal choice and you don't wish to discuss it. Really at the end of the day, who cares what other people think anyway, you are doing it for your health, not their approval.

I am I crazy for considering surgery

I see you are 5'9" and 230lbs. I personally would not choose the surgery at that weight, but that is only my opinion. Having said that, if you can't get your diabetes under control then it may be your best bet. As far as having surgery in Mexico, I would just do my due diligence in checking out the reviews of the doctor. Ultimately as long as you are comfortable with the surgeon you should be fine whether in Mexico or in the US. It may however be a bit of an issue with the surgeon in Mexico as you will most likely not be following up with them as you would here in the US, but you can always go to a US surgeon afterwards for follow-up.

    Sleeved 3/14... belly button leaking

Yes, call your surgeon ASAP. I had an incision get infected and am still dealing with it. The sooner you get help, the quicker you will be well.

6 days post op and depressed

I was on a liquid post-op diet for 10 days. I was very upset by day ten and let my doctor know (he wanted 14 days). They let me go on to adding an egg once a day and it helped a bunch. That said, the food cravings still come and go.

Have I botched my surgery [emoji22]

Only if you want it that way, otherwise fight it! You said you lost more weight without the surgery, so if you can do it with a normal stomach, you can do it with a sleeve, even if it has stretched a bit. Keep positive!

1 Week 1 day Post op & HUNGRY

There is a reason we can drink 64oz of water, but only eat 6-9oz of solids per day. It is because liquids literally pass right through the stomach and into the intestines. Since everything you are eating is liquid it does not surprise me in the least that you are hungry still. I literally had a pint of broth at one point two weeks after surgery, but am lucky to get 2-3oz of solid food in at a meal. Be patient, once you can start eating solids this issue should subside.

    Eating fast lesson learned.

Could not agree more. Some times we just need to learn things the hard way.

    Dealing with others issues

It sounds to me like you are "comfortable" but not "happy" being with this person. Maybe it's time to step out of the comfort zone in order to be truly happy?

    Portion Size

For the sake of meeting your goals I hope none of those things are on your plate any time soon. Did your surgeon explain this procedure to you thoroughly?

What can I expect the first 4-6 weeks?

I am exactly 6 weeks out today. Physically I feel about 90% back to normal, emotionally I have a problem watching others enjoy food that I cannot. I simply cannot be in the room with them. I did not think this would be an issue for me but it is. Of course, I am not saying you will have the same problem, just sharing my experience.

Band to Sleeve revision approved, Now Nervous

So let me put it in stark terms for ya buddy: I have now lost more weight in 6 weeks after my sleeve surgery than I ever did during the 5 years I had the band. This depends on what you consider a normal meal. If it is 6 tacos and a large soda from Taco Bell (yup that was a typically meal for me even with the band), then you are correct you will never be able to eat a normal meal again. If it is chicken breast with veggies, then you absolutely will be able to eat a normal meal again, but less than before. You have the same concerns I did before surgery. The fact that you worry about this in my opinion means you most likely have some sort of food addiction. I do. It has been very, very difficult for me emotionally to deal with that addiction. Having said that, the other choice was going to the grave within a couple years without the surgery. So, is it worth it? Yes, I think it is, and keep in mind I still am not even at the phase where I can eat chicken and veggies (oh God I never thought I would crave vegetables!). Opening up my food options will most definitely improve my attitude! But even at this stage it has been worth it!

    Weight gain after sleeve

The only way you are a failure is if you completely give up and don't bother to seek improvement. I suspect that if you truly felt there was no hope, you would not have even bothered posting this topic. I would say you are most definitely NOT a failure. You have had a setback. It happens to all of us.

    Pre Op need support

Yes! I have dealt with this issue every day since my surgery. Many days are filled with crying at the loss. Having said that, it is getting better day by day. For me it is the reality of dealing with food addiction.

    Side pain

I have a chronic pain in my right side as well, but it does not flare up unless I sit for a long time. It feels like a severe rib bruise. Not sure if that is the same thing you are experiencing, but thought I'd throw it out there.

    Sleeve vs bypass

Just for anecdotal reference, I had a severe sugar addiction. I chose the sleeve and have not had a single craving for anything sweet since surgery. Having said that, I do crave carbs something aweful, which as we all know turn to sugar. Of course even though I have terrible cravings, I have not given in because I don't want to mess with what is working.

High fructose corn syrup is the devil.

I thought I would share some anecdotal information with the rest of the group. On Wednesday I had a bad sore throat so I had a couple lozenges to help it out. The next day I had splitting headaches and was hungry all day. I just couldn't figure out WTF was going on as I had not experienced this issue at all since surgery. I went over what I had eaten over the last few days and realized the only thing I had done differently was the lozenges. So, I grabbed the bag (which was from way before I decided to have surgery) and looked at the ingredients, of course High fructose corn syrup was ingredient number one. I just wanted to share with everyone this concrete example on just how horrible high fructose corn syrup is. Of course most of us know and avoid this evil substance, but I wanted to shine a light on the fact that just 2 small lozenges essentially made me ill for two days. Hopefully this will serve as a warning to those who think "Maybe I can eat just one piece of candy and it won't hurt." It will hurt, save yourself the trouble. Stay healthy!!

Depression or Apathetic feelings "only after surgery"?

I can't speak to your personal reasons, but I can tell you I feel exactly the same way and am 100% convinced it is due to food addiction. Food was my best friend, now I am learning how to deal with my new relationship to food. I look at it as a transition period that will take some time to get over. I've been under general anesthesia 5 times and have never had the apathetic feeling like I do now. Also, just for your own peace of mind, if the issues you and I are facing never went away then nobody would ever recommend the surgery. It will get better my friend!!
