Weight loss slow
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Jinyinjin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to your stats you have lost a little over 10% of your entire body mass in 3 weeks. That is pretty darn good. Keep it up! -
Pain after surgery...
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Pigluva's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Right after you wake up will probably suck. Be sure to alert the nearest staff member with a delightful "HEY BITCH! THIS SHIT HURTS!". Bonus points for directing the comment at a male employee. Double bonus if it is your surgeon. After a few doses of medical grade heroine, feel free to drool on yourself while repeating "Thisshiffrawks" until you fall asleep. Bonus points for letting your balls/breasts hang out of your robe while you sleep. Eventually you will feel better. I promise!! -

Revision from band to sleeve

That is probably good news, it should help with getting insurance to go for the revision. Keep us informed, and stay positive!! -

Navigating the Wilderness replied to Sullie06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shaming yourself for making those choices is not going to help you at all. You did what you did, it is in the past, the bonus is you lost 2 pounds while doing it! Take that as the freebie was, as I am sure it will not happen again. If you are in a job that requires frequent travel, then you will have to just plan ahead and better next time. BTW, just because they are giving out free pizza does not mean you have to eat it. There is nothing free about how you feel if you eat it. -
Already cheating 5 months post op
Navigating the Wilderness replied to bowlofcherries28's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's the food addiction many of us suffer. If you changed the above references from food items to alcohol, you would have a recovering alcoholic that is starting to fall off the wagon again, right? Tell dear husband he needs help. Be that in the form of going to a local bariatric surgery group monthly, or seeing a psychologist, or self help in the form of a book. Coincidentally, there is a good book on amazon called Never Binge Again which happens to be free in kindle version for a limited time. I would pick it up and see if it can help him with his situation. -

Revision from band to sleeve
Navigating the Wilderness replied to pattylove83's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well hell, that does suck. Yeah, Lapbands work for some people I suppose, I had mine for 5 years before I gave up on it. In quick terms, within 6 weeks of being sleeved I had lost 5 more pounds than I ever lost in the 5 years I was banded, so your situation is not abnormal. Will insurance cover it, IDK. It would depend on your insurance, soI would call them. I had to go through the whole six month BS before the lap band, but to revise to a sleeve I only needed to do 3 months. I'm sure every carrier is different. Either way, I wish you the best of luck, and results!! -

Revision from band to sleeve
Navigating the Wilderness replied to pattylove83's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ugh, that is crappy. Did the surgeon who banded you say you needed a sleeve? And if so, why did he band you to begin with? -
Frustrating stalls!
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Shrinking Sleever's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am between 7-8 weeks and I had a bad stall for the last couple weeks. I just keep pushing through it, but it is hard for sure. -

Wouldn't it be great if bariatric surgeons all had to have bariatric surgery themselves before they practiced? -
Sleeve to rny?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to krisk12786's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ugh, sorry to hear you are having a hard time of it. My wife had her gallbladder removed and she still gets pain due to scarring, so that is not uncommon. I hope you find a good way through everything. -
Band to Sleeve, Still Nervous wife not thrilled
Navigating the Wilderness replied to rosstheboss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If your stats are still accurate, I would not think you would want to go through the surgery to lose 30 more pounds at 6'1". Especially if you are doing it to help with looks. But that is my feeling, and as long as you are comfortable with it, don't let anything get in your way! -
A loss is still a loss
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Keenikwe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
1) be more insightful to know when my mother isn't meaning to criticize me Fuck That. 2) be more mature than my mother and handle her going off on me with grace and not to react Fuck That. 3) accept the way she treats me and roll over and take it without changing the family gatherings because sweeping her crap under the table and acting like it didn't happen is easier on them. Fuck That. This may be a mother/daughter thing. My wife was treated the same way by her mom until I told her that what her mom said was complete bullshit, and the only one she ever had to please was herself. You need to know that as well. It simply does not matter what other people think/say, and I don't give a damn if they are 'family', or a spouse. If they do not support you in what you are doing, then do you really need them in your life? So many people say 'But they are family, and family is family' piss on that. Being related to someone does not give them an excuse to make you feel like crap. Since you expressed how you felt, and they did not care, then why on earth should you care about them? There will be others on this board posting in the vein of family is family and asking you to forgive, but I would strongly advise you to focus on yourself, your husband, and your kids. On a separate note, high hive for losing the weight pre-op! It will definitely help you out with not only the surgery, but give you a big boost post-op as well!! Keep going! -

I would also recommend reading Never Binge Again. It has some good ideas, BONUS part, I just looked and it is free today from Amazon if you choose the Kindle version: https://www.amazon.com/Never-Binge-Again-Permanently-Overeating-ebook/dp/B014V1Q6SI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490375764&sr=8-1&keywords=food+addiction -
Feel like I'm losing my ever-loving mind
Navigating the Wilderness replied to austrolatrishy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It is head hunger, and perfectly normal to feel this way. More importantly, it screams food addiction. Some people can overcome it with ease, some people have to continuously work at it (like me). As many a surgeon will tell you, they operated on your stomach, not your head. I can say it gets easier with time, but right after surgery was the worst by far. -
Does VSG really need Bariatric vitamins vs. regular chewable?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Seraya's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have had two separate WL surgeries and both places stressed never to use these. I'd double-check with your surgeon. -
Sip Sip Sip ... Not Me !!
Navigating the Wilderness replied to ayanna_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably because you had a very good surgeon. I never had nausea or vomiting either. Liquids flow through the pyloric valve and into the intestines rather easily, whereas solids take a lot longer (this is why the do not drink 30 minutes before eating rule is important as water will mix with solids and pass into the intestines quicker). All of that said, there will come a day soon when you try something and it hits like a load of bricks. I would not test the sleeve out strenuously as it will only delay recovery. -
