Toast or crackers with meals
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Carmencita!981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some may have differing opinions, but not this guy, I agree with that 100%. Not only will they cause you to eat more, but they will absolutely pack the pounds right back on. Whole wheat toast, while slightly lower in carbs than white bread is still carb-dense. Having said all of that, I want you to know a personal experience with me. 2 weeks ago I said f**k it and went to a party and absolutely destroyed some tortilla chips. Yes, I did that. So how bad was this one incident? Well, I gained 13 pounds. Yes, read that again 13 pounds! Did I eat 13 pounds of food? Hell no, not even close, but reintroducing carbs killed my metabolism and since they were salty, it packed on water weight. So, if you want to ruin a weeks worth of work like I did, feel free, but I would strongly suggest skipping the carbs for quite some time. I know I will. As for protein count, most shoot for a minimum of 80g/day, but many go even higher. -
6 weeks - told to go back on fluid
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Cazzam8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First and foremost, nothing anyone says here should countermand your Surgeon. So if he said liquids, do liquids. If the only solid you can keep down is potato chips, then you are much better off with liquids anyway. Every single surgery is different because all surgeons are different and all patients are different. It could be that you have something stuck in there, it could be that you have a bunch of inflammation still, it could be a stricture, it could be nothing at all. Did the doctor say how long to stay on liquids for this time? -
Meal plan
Navigating the Wilderness replied to brather's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would be variable based on your current weight. I suggest talking to a NUT and tailoring a plan to your needs. Having said that, people typically try to shoot for the following on here: 1000-1200 cal/day at least 80g protien/day at least 64oz water/day -
Don't be the Chicken & Cheetos Lady
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Dr. Colleen Long's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Yeah, I knew a patient who was rapidly regaining weight. When asked what said patient was eating, it was revealed to be mostly Angel Food cake. Why? Because they said it contained mostly egg whites which were protein, and thus on their bariatric diet sheet. -
Hahahahaha understatement for me. For the first couple months: Question: "How are you today buddy?" Answer: "I'll kill your whole damn family if you don't leave me the f**k alone!"

Eating When Not Hungry?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to kristenmh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a good question for your surgeon. My particular surgeon said to not eat if you are not hungry. Some people never experience true hunger after this surgery, some do, some start out that way and eventually have it come back. For me the hunger never left, but it is much easier to control properly now. -

That user has leveraged Keto to lose a bunch of weight. Though I believe they were sleeved first. Nonetheless, a great person to reference for Keto success.

Stalling right now
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Resha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! Stalled for nearly 3 weeks, tried adding more calories, reducing fats, could not figure out how this body was keeping its weight on 800 calories/day. Finally looked at water consumption and added more, weight started going back down. -
How often so you weigh in?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to maggieO's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is FANTASTIC advice for everyone. I love that idea!! -
Well, you could look at it as glass-half-empty, but I would look at it as you are attracting multiple different people so you must be doing something right. In other words, you have that hot-cha-cha, ya? That is half the battle!! Seriously though, I am old school, I feel the best relationships are those that start with friendships and it is probably going to be a bit hard finding a friend on a dating site, though there are several people on here who have done just that. Any possible prospects at work/school/church?

I'm unsupportive, but I want to be....
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Nichole Edwards's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just curious, do you expect your fiancee to never be in a position where he would have to undergo surgery in his lifetime? Cuz surgery is surgery and if you can't handle it then you are going to be sorely disappointed in your relationship. I know very few people who have made it through life without some form of surgery at some point. And there is absolutely no guarantee he will be happy or healthy in a year. That is all variable based on a bunch of factors. I don't mean this to be cruel, but I really think you should reassess your relationship if you feel this way. If my reply bothers you, then keep reading the replies below where inevitably there will be posts telling you it will all come up roses without any effort. -

First day of pureed food
Navigating the Wilderness replied to newbie123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't use protein shakes very often. For my 10 days of post op I used unjury chocolate splendor and their chicken soup. The vanilla and strawberry were straight ass in my opinion. It got to the point where I was choosing between a shake and Greek yogurt. Yogurt won out each time. If I had to do a shake, it would probably be the unjury chocolate splendor. I hate chocolate, but it was the best at masking the flavor. I used to do the EAS strawberry pre made shakes and they were not bad, but this surgeon wanted unjury only. -
First day of pureed food
Navigating the Wilderness replied to newbie123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't think there is such a beast. Unflavored meaning that they do not add flavors to mask the taste of whey protein. But it is not unflavored as in it has no flavor. Unflavored still tastes like whey protein. -
Liquid Diet Struggles
Navigating the Wilderness replied to kafinator330's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suspect most people go through this, I know I did. There are not a bunch of posts on here raving about their favorite liquid diet! If you need the real food that bad, talk to your surgeon. I did and he let me go to the egg phase at only 10 days post-op. Whatever you do though, do not deviate at this stage unless the surgeon approves. 5 minutes of food is not worth potential complications! -
First day of pureed food
Navigating the Wilderness replied to newbie123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I suspect if your body didn't tolerate the food, you would be rushing to the bathroom very quickly. The pain you felt would seem to correspond to your system reacting to solid food pushing on the walls of your pouch/sleeve/band again, which would be normal. I will qualify that statement by saying I know precisely f**k-all other than what I personally experienced. I had the cramping feeling on my right side but it went away after a couple days. -
Goal weight
Navigating the Wilderness replied to barefoot_gardener's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I suppose the 'goal weight' would probably be getting back to a normal BMI. I personally think it is bullshit though. Your goal weight should be the weight at which you are healthy and where you can comfortably exercise, and are not constantly starving. Throwing out an arbitrary weight goal is just crap. Allowing a Dr. to tell you your weight goal is even worse. Keep that in mind as you progress through the process. You want to get to a healthy for you weight, not an arbitrary number. -
Feeling sorry for myself
Navigating the Wilderness replied to ymmv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Agreed. My surgeon was 1 day pre-op. My BMI was in the high 50's. No problem. Having said that, if you can go three months on a liquid diet, you will lose weight. -
Any Regrets?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to bilbisgfy's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've had both the band and the sleeve. I personally found the band to be worthless. I had the vsg 2 months back, and it has helped much more so than the band. Having said that I can say, and I really want to drive it home, that neither surgery will do much for you if you are not prepared to stick with the eating diet. My advice to you is to find a post-op diet recommendation and follow it, not for one week, or one month, but maybe 6 months or so. If after six months, you still feel like you can follow it, go through with the surgery. If not, take some time and reassess everything. Some people find when they have VSG they lose their appetite, this did not happen with me, so from a dieting standpoint I don't really feel any different 2 months post op than I did pre-op. Of course the first couple weeks when you are doing the majority of your healing, the inflammation will definitely present restriction. I suppose if I tried to jam 6 tacos in I would have discomfort, but I have never had a problem eating anything in any rational amount and feeling like I needed to throw up afterwards, but then again, I don't force feed myself until busting either. The fact is most food if chewed well will just push through the pyloric valve and go into the intestines if you keep eating. It will especially do so if you drink liquid right before a meal. I say this because I am 100% convinced that the physical sleeve is maybe 20% of the success, while diet and exercise account for 80%. It may even be more like a 10%-90% split. I'm sure there are some people who will disagree, so I will qualify all of this by saying it is just my opinion. -
Perfectly normal.

Type of food
Navigating the Wilderness replied to veromichelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lets Look at them side by side: SF Jello cup: 10 calories 0g fat 0g carbs Cup o noodles: 314 calories 14g fat 42g carbs So even if you could have the noodles, you can clearly see why they would be on the no list.
