Goody's Powder
Navigating the Wilderness replied to GApeach80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Goody's Extra Strength Powder contains aspirin, caffeine, and acetaminophen. The formulation of "Goody's Extra Strength Headache Powders" is currently 520 mg aspirin, 260 mg acetaminophen and 32.5 mg caffeine. In my opinion that is too much aspirin for 4 weeks post-op sleeve, plus caffeine can lead to reflux. I would go with liquid Tylenol for headaches. All that said, I suspect you are correct about the water causing your issue. I would highly recommend discussing this with your doctor. -
What Were Your Most Helpful Pre-Op Preparations?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Redo2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Joann454's ideas are all good, on top of that I would suggest making sure you have ALL your post-op meds filled and ready at home. You don't want to wait around for them to get filled when you need them the most. -
I have know spleen
Navigating the Wilderness replied to FAT TWO FABULOUS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think only your surgeon can answer this, and without a spleen you will be more prone to infection, but I doubt it would disqualify you from WLS surgery. -
Revision 12 years later? Band to...
Navigating the Wilderness replied to twistedbarbieLA's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the conversion from band to sleeve a little over 5 months again. Sleeve is much better in my opinion, I have lost almost twice as much weight weight in 5 months than I ever did in the 5 years I had the band. Eating is still restrictive, but you feel full more naturally than the oh-my-god stabbing pain of a full lap band. If I had known this before I tried the band there is no way I would have wasted my time with it. -
Sleeved today!

Yogurt question
Navigating the Wilderness replied to char3672's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein is the most important thing right now next to water. If the yogurt you listed is truly the only thing you can tolerate right now, then do it just to get some protein in. Just know you should transition to healthier option as soon as possible. -

Post op. Surgery 7/6. Home today and gained 8pounds
Navigating the Wilderness replied to lilbigprsn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very common. They pump you full of steroids which makes you retain water, then they pump you full of fluids on top of it. The xtra weight should fall off rapidly. Congrats on taking the plunge. All the best on your journey! -
Life style change
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Tuffer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This pretty much sums it up. If it makes any difference in your comfort level, I have had both a lap band and now a sleeve. The band was way worse for discomfort in my opinion. -
Pre-op Food Prep
Navigating the Wilderness replied to SweetGisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd add liquid Tylenol, and a heating pad if you don't already have one. Both are indispensable the first few weeks. -
2 week pre op liquid diet- 3 Days in
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Kyle Lukas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquid diets suck, there is no way around it. They make everything besides liquid seem awesome in your mind, but it is only a mind game. Power through it if you can! -

I'm Cold?!
Navigating the Wilderness replied to CalgaryWoman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very common to get cold as you lose weight. Apparently you have lost enough weight for your body to feel it. I used to sweat in 75 degrees (sorry I'm American so we use dumb-as-f**k measurements unlike the rest of the world). Now I freeze in 75 degree weather. -

6 month stall 2 lbs up 2lbs down
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Cleo in Mckinney's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think you answered your own question: I know it is hard, but those three things in particular will definitely inhibit weight loss. That is not something I would recommend. "I need to hit x or I failed" is a one way ticket to self doubt and shame which in turn tends to lead back to bad eating habits. You know how you are eating, if you are eating a healthy diet this goal will occur naturally. If not, it will not. Be realistic, you seem ready to recommit, now just put the plan into action! -

Acid Reflux
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Angelika's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had horrible reflux pre-op, but have not had a single problem post-op. Of course I am on Nexium, but pre-op it would have been Nexium, Tums, and still having bouts of horrible reflux. I'm a firm believer that diet has a lot to do with reflux. Greasy foods, caffeine, high acid foods, and overeating all were causing my issues. Now that I pass on those I have no reflux problems. -

Eating out the first time after surgery
Navigating the Wilderness replied to tinab59's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My suggestion would be to eat before hand and politely decline any food there. This is critical in the first few months so you don't reintroduce food that may trigger bad eating behaviors. Enjoy the people instead of the food! -
Post Op Anxiety or Depression
Navigating the Wilderness replied to kcmonkmi6912's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, it is the moment that you think you can't ever be what you were and get the whole "What did I do?" feeling. The reality is that you can be what you were before, plus be a lot happier and healthier. It just takes some time to get used to the new you. -
Heartburn from Hell
Navigating the Wilderness replied to kcmonkmi6912's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Fantastic news about your husband. Much respect for losing that amount of weight! Switching up your diet can always lead to some complications, but heartburn and gas are definitely better than weight gain. Gas-x and nexium should help those issues. -

Post Op Anxiety or Depression
Navigating the Wilderness replied to kcmonkmi6912's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had anxiety issues in the past, still have them post-op. I was never depressed before, but had a bout of deep depression maybe a month after surgery. It was temporary and went away within a week. -
Coschet. Rhymes with cosplay. Depends on how geeky your stuff is though.

Lack of Support, How to deal
Navigating the Wilderness replied to SweetGisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I support you 100%. Mom is probably scared and uninformed. Educate her, and past that let her negativity roll off as best you can.
