No support from home
Navigating the Wilderness replied to pinkpearlz07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's actually fairly simple. Generally speaking people are scared of surgery, as you said, due to the possibility of death. My guess is after the surgery, once you make it through, and you will, your mother will no longer have that anxiety of losing a daughter and unless she is a total psycho will come to support your decision and support you. According to your post she has been supportive in the past, and there is no reason to think she will not support you post-op, correct? -

First problem, required but not covered?
Navigating the Wilderness replied to Nightshade's topic in Insurance & Financing
I don't have the same health insurance, but I can say during my lap-band the Dr.'s office charged me for the following, none of which insurance covered: $80 per visit to their NUT, x6 monthly visits. $200 for a visit to their Psych who had promptly handed me a piece of paper stating her fee was normally $500/hr but she was giving me a 'discount'. $500 to cover the cost of future group sessions. When I wen to the latest Dr. for my sleeve, the only thing I had to pay for besides co-pays was my psych eval. I do recall at the first place where I had my lap-band done there was a lady in the waiting room with me that was very upset because she could not afford the $500 fee and the surgeon would not perform the surgery without the payment up front. I thought that was really, really shitty of them. -

WHY OH WHY EAT FAST
Navigating the Wilderness replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gotta go with what @blizair09 said. You need to focus on why you are repeating this behavior over and over again. -
Plateau
Navigating the Wilderness replied to KG1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you may have self-diagnosed what the issue is. You need to change that up some. They make various drugs to help with nausea which would probably be a much better solution than eating carbs. Talk to your surgeon. -

What has 2 thumbs and had horrible back pain before surgery? THIS GUY! Glad to report that 70 pounds later I can walk without any pain. Good luck on your journey and may you have the same results as I did! -

You are probably thinking about Genepro, but I will caution it has a VERY dubious reputation. -
Quick question to guys about stalling
Navigating the Wilderness replied to wcherry5901's topic in The Guys’ Room
Yup, same exact thing. For me it was upping my water intake that started me down the losing path again. Deli meat has a bunch of sodium in it as well, so water weight retention may be an issue for you as well. Realistically a stall that has been going on for a few days is not a big deal. For reference, it took me 3 weeks to break my stall. -
Loosing weight very slow
Navigating the Wilderness replied to michelle12rose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Who cares? Everyone is different, please don't waste your time worrying about how much others have lost. Now, let's look at your specific case. You had a very low starting weight (to put it in perspective many people on here list 200 pounds as their IDEAL weight), yet you still lost a quarter of that even. That is frickin' awesome! Sooo, stop beating yourself up about it. Right now! Go back to the basics and see how that works for you. Most likely if you have been starving yourself for the past month (which I totally get due to your circumstances) you will probably put a little bit of weight back on at first, but if you stick to the plan you created for life after surgery, you should start to see results. That being said, unless you are like 4 feet tall, I don't think they will be all that dramatic as 150 is pretty low to begin with. -

Honestly @pitts, it seems like you have a good grasp on what you need to be successful and that is a great starting point. What is pushing you one way or the other regarding VSG vs DS? -
No weight loss
Navigating the Wilderness replied to maryrod's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ah ok, one shake per day. That is the first thing you need to fix. Notice I didn't say should, I said NEED. It doesn't really matter how much protein is in that shake, the human body only absorbs 20-30 grams at any one time. 80 grams/day is the gold standard, so I would think this is most definitely holding you back. In addition how much water per day do you drink? It sounds silly, but I hit a stall that lasted 3 weeks, I tried everything, but nothing worked. Lastly I looked at water and was only averaging 48 oz per day, when I upped that to between 60-70/day I started losing weight once more. So 16 ounces of water per day was the difference between stalling and weight loss for me. -
