    Hair Loss

about 4 months out I had alot of hair loss..then it settled down to normal. About 8 months out it started again and it's now normal again. Everyone is different and depending on whats going on in your life stress wise and how you're eating it will affect your hair. Remember vitamins and protein. Hugs and best wishes.
  2. best wishes for a speedy recovery. Welcome to bandland.

    Need Help with protein shake.

I use AES chocolate and mix it with skim milk, 1 tsp Sugar Free Banana pudding, 1 tsp low carb peanut butter and that helps with the flavoring and takes away any grittiness. I've also used Slim Fast Low Carb prepared shakes in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Check those labels cause the slim fast low carb had more protein then the High Protein Slim fast...crazy.

    Question about PBs

well that's going to depend on whats stuck and how much Fluid you have in your band etc. Everyone is different. I know for me drinking when stuck is a big no no. It just comes back up and causes trouble. The best thing to do is walk walk walk. I haven't been stuck in a while..guess I learned to chew better...but when I did at first I jumped up and down, walked and paced until it moved. If the food is truly stuck drinking Water only adds to the fluid in your stomach which could then push the food and liquid higher up into your esphogus and make you really throw up not just PB. Best bet is to walk it off if you can.

    Anesthesia

I get weepy when I wake up from it...takes me a while to come out of it. I slept quite a bit in recovery when supposedly most wake right up after surgery. I know I was sleeping at least 2 hours after...then groggy most of that same day.
  6. you don't say when you were banded. Are you newly banded? Have you had your band for a while? Did you drink from a straw, take in too much air while you ate etc. GasX won't help if it's the way you're eating..walking will help with it somewhat.
  7. You have to remember not all pills can be crushed or broken up because of the timing of their release into your system. You really should check with your pharmacist prior to taking them after banding. I know my pharmacist was a big help. Iron pills for one shouldn't be broken up as well as some other meds. I highly recommend checking with them Good luck.

    Bad Breath! Why?

Listerine strips help alot with that and they dissolve quickly.

    MRI After Banded ?????

I asked that question during my lapband process and was also told you can have MRIs with it in place no problem.

    The size of your band

Doc told me I have a 10mm band that holds 4ccs of fluid. You can ask your surgeon...some have a favorite some don't. They do have to base it on the size of your stomach though.

    whey vs. soy

As long as you're getting protein in I don't think it matters whether it's whey or soy protein. Pretty soon you'll be on mushies so you'll have more options too. As far as not having a problem with whey until you were banded....sometimes that does happen. I used to be able to eat pork and I can no longer do that without getting sick no matter how well I chew it. Some things just don't agree anymore. Good luck!
  13. It's my understanding that you're healing the first 8 weeks. I was told I couldn't lift more than 20 pounds during that time so not sure where horse back riding would be. You should check with your surgeon and/or bariatric center.

Ok this new style is confusing..info on the right one day...now on the left the next. I can't change my signature because it tells me I can only have 500 letter/spaces including a bb something line which I don't have. I take out almost my entire signature and it tells me I'm still over the limit WTF? I realize changes are often necessary but, whew...confusing for me anyway. First thank you all for keeping my son in your prayers. He's in his room playing video games, screaming his head off at the game and how stupid it is so....he's feeling more like himself UGH. I took him out of the house for the first time today and he did good but, was sore and tired. SOOOO much paperwork between the auto accident, medical claims, school, docs etc that needs to be done. School is telling me he can't miss more than 7 days of shop or he'll have to do summer school. HELLO? Ummm this isn't his fault and we're trying to get him back in shop but they say he can't with crutches even if he sits at a desk all day and does the book work that is part of his daily course anyway. They say no. So they are basically forcing him to summer school which I'm going to now go in and have to argue. I mean I understand why they make kids make it up but to me there has to be some solution to this. Next week is acedemic week for him and that's ok but he needs a note to attend and a note for special rides to school etc. I'm trying my best to get this all done and yet try to work at home too and wait on him when he needs stuff. Now we think he's getting a bladder infection so I'm wondering if that got all bruised up in the accident. Sorry he needs me so I have to run. I love you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart for saying prayers and sending well wishes. hope to get back soon!

Thank goodness for finally getting good weather at least something went right this week. I'm actually looking forward to the begining of a new week starting tomorrow What a lousy week! Sunday - Family stuff going on that I don't believe in or like and it's under my own roof. Really upsetting for DH and myself yet nothing we can do. Both of us are feeling sick and cranking and this didn't help. Lets say lots of childhood crap came back and it was really unpleasant. Monday - Husband sick, I left work early because I felt sick. Surprise tax bill had to be paid. Tuesday - Husband still sick, I left work early because felt sick, finally convinced DH to go to doc but of course ours is closed so have to go out of network and pay cash for the visit. At the doc I get the dreaded phone call. "Ma, I've been in an accident but, I'm ok" I hear the sirens in the background and turns out it's down the street from the walk-in clinic I'm at with DH. EMT gets on the phone says he's gotta go to the hospital and I convinced them to stop and get me on their way by. I ran out and look down the road to see fire trucks, ambulances and police cars knowing my son was in that mess! Trip to hopsital, tests later...broken hip but, they can't handle pediatric trama so 45 min ride in ambulance up to Childrens Hospital in Boston. Accident was at 5:30, Ride to Boston at 11:00. Tests at Childrens...CT scans, Contrast scans, more xrays. Wednesday-1:30 am finally find out all organs are ok, broken/fractured left hip in two places and hand possibly has a fracture that couldn't be pickedup but it's swollen. Whew...now we know he's ok. Try to fall asleep at 3am get up at 5am from docs in room. Physical therapy at 11:30, released from hospital by 3, home by 4-4:30 with pain meds, crutches lots of bruises. Son's work called and the game system he wanted they have on hold...no choice have to pick it up since he doesn't want to push it with his employer and will be out a while so DH picked it up $ later. Thursday-Go to place my son's car was towed $ cash only, and let them take it as junked. My sinuses are now infected so had to call my doc and plead for a perscription telling her I can't leave my son to come up there. She finally calls one in and forgets yet again that I have the lapband. So I'm now opening capsules, pouring it onto applesauce and taking it that way. DH forgot about a dentist visit, insurance only pays half of crown and dentist wants cash. (Anyone hearing a theme here with the money?) Friday - Chatting with Crispy and she discovered that my last name on our reservations and tickets is her last name. UGH. She has to get that fixed, airline has to get in touch with her. Noticed the expensive garden ball I bought at a nice garden center for my mother's birthday a few years back was stolen from our front yard garden. Realized that I've now misplaced or lost $40 that was in my pocket. I may of dropped it at the pharmacy...no clue where it is. This kind of stuff really ticks me off because I just can't find it and with the week we've had we can't afford me doing that. Saturday - Son needs to be registered for SATs cha-Ching, cripe I remember when the test was $24 or so. Front brakes on my car have to be replaced as they aren't working properly. DH has to buy the pads and other stuff to do it. When trying to take the tire off realized the "special" locking lug nuts tool is missing. Searched the entire house, car, toolbox..no where. Drive back out to Honda dealer see if we can get one. Nice man gave me one from his universal set...he'll let it slide this time (Oh boy...besides my son THANKFULLY not being seriously hurt..this is the first GOOD thing all week). So it's now only 2:18PM Saturday...I only have a few more hours and it will be SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY! Yippee...I pray it's a much better week. I'll still have to take Monday out of work because I need to go to my son's school to see if they can help me figure out how he'll get around in school, the meds etc. I have to run to the registry to turn in his plates...still have accident reports to complete, I just can't bring myself up to doing it right now. I peaked at my work emails oh brother! I'll be back...DH wants me to go for a ride to make sure the brakes work. Ummmm keep your fingers crossed!

I got one of the "mother's nightmare" calls. My son was in a really bad accident yesterday...his car is totalled but, Thankfully hes doing ok. We just got home from the Children's hospital in Boston...the local hosp can't handle pediatric trama so we were transported via ambulance to Boston. Cat scans, ultrasounds, xrays, contrast studies etc and he's lucky....he did break his hip bone but nothing else was damaged. The kid had angels in his car for sure. He was allowed to come home today but can't put weight on his hip for a week and then we have to take it slow. What a horrible horrible thing to go through and yet I had to drop to my knees and thank God that it wasn't the "worst" mother's phone call telling me he was gone. I pray for all the mother's that have had to go through this. Please think of my son tonight in your prayers then hug your loved ones....life really is short.

    Restriction in the morning

When I first got my band and up until almost a year out I couldn't eat anything solid first thing in the morning. So I'd have my coffee, cocoa or iced coffee and then I'd eat around 10am and that would be a scrambled egg or omelet. Something on the softer side. I couldn't eat any hard protein until at least noontime but, you shouldn't have to go until 3pm. Definately mention this to your physician.

Howdy all...I'll have to post later. Had a pretty good trip to NY but the trip home was TERRIBLE with the Noreaster. We hit snow and sleet on our way home and saw at least 20 cars in accidents or off the road. One car on the other side of the highway veered out of control, hit the median guardrail and spewed snow and ice all over us then he spun 360's over to the other side and hit that guardrail. We were on the opposite half of the highway so we couldn't help, if we stopped we would of been hit! It was a long drive home. Once we got through the Berkshires in Mass we didn't have anymore snow but the wind and rain were terrible. Same thing going on today, trees down, floods...I'm shocked work has power but, I'm here. I'm waiting for the Water torture to start as we always have trouble here with a leaky roof UGH. Eileen - Congrats on the promotion girlfriend! Darcy - Congrats on the cottage I'll catch up with everyone tonight if I can get online. Lots of laundry and cleaning to do since I wasn't home this weekend. Hug to you all!
