I'm 7 weeks post op and I have not lost an ounce since 11 days ago. Are stalls this long normal? What was your longest stall? I've upped my protein intake, am more active, and nothing is working. I'm getting a little discouraged. Any advice on how to break it?

How long post op did it take you to have a bowel movement?

I was so nervous. I have the worst fear of surgery and going under. The day of surgery, I was in the bed having panic attack after panic attack. I was crying so much. When it was time for me to go back, the anesthesiologist came in with a syringe of stuff to calm me. He injected it straight into the oven in my wrist. I remember thinking that my husband hadn't said bye yet and I went to turn to look at him, and I remember nothing else. I don't know if he said bye. Then I was waking up. I wasn't sure what happened. I didn't remember that I was having surgery. After a while, I remembered. When I started to feel the pain. I was out of it for a good while. They told my husband that it would be about an hour before I got to my room. It ended up being around 3-4 hours. Because I was so out of it. I could hear them talking to me and to each other, but I just wasn't responding to them. I then started asking them about things they had said before and they set up the pain medicine pump and sent me to my room. If you have a pain pump, be sure to utilize it when you are awake. I was so in and out, that I'd forget to push the button and it would result in me being in terrible pain. Anyways. This was my second time having anesthesia and both times went well, I suppose. The first time I had it, they brought me into a room and had me count backwards. This time was a lot better, because I have no recollection of going into the room. But the panic attacks weren't so fun. I think back and tell myself that I shouldn't have panicked so much and it would have been easier on me, but I don't think I could have not panicked. Lol. Best of luck to you! You will do great!

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?
imightknow replied to dreamingsmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved the 3rd. How much food are you getting in? I just got over the 3rd week stall. The dermabond on My incisions are almost all the way gone. I honestly feel great, for the most part. My doctor told me to stay out of the heat because I will dehydrate quickly and it is so hot here. So I've tried my exercise bike, but the large incision hurts when I do that. So hopefully that will heal up soon. There is a very large knot there, where they move my inside out of the way and it feels horrible to put pressure on. I am able to sleep on my stomach again and it is the best. I get down food pretty good. Not so much the shakes though. So I try to get in one a day, with a scoop of genepro and benefiber mixed in. My diet that the nutritionist gave me said that I should be getting in 3 meals, two snacks. And the meals should be like 2-4 tbsp. Sometimes it is easy to get in those 4 tbsp. Depending on what I eat. For example, I just ate some tofu and it was super easy to get down. Other times, 2 tbsp of tuna is hard. And a boiled egg is tough too. It feels like the egg just stays in my throat. -
When did you start working out after surgery? I know, I know, everyone is different, listen to your body, listen to your doctor, let your body heal.... blah blah blah. I'm just wanting to know when YOU all started working out again. Treadmill, exercise bike, and then more active/ strength stuff.
-
Thanks y'all. My doctor told me to avoid get lying out in this heat right now, since I will dehydrate quickly. So I've been trying to use my exercise bike more, but it is painful for me. (That stupid big incision) lol. But I can't wait until I can work out more, even if it is inside .

After post op how long did you wait to return to work?
imightknow replied to Ready2enjoylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took off a week. I work from home and on the computer. Though, my first few days back, my manager let me leave early because I was in some pain and there were too many people working. After that, I felt just fine. So, I would say 2 weeks is probably a good amount of time. -
How much did/could you "eati during whole liquids phase?
imightknow replied to shazwott13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can get down about that much of cottage cheese too. Cottage cheese seems to be the easiest for me to eat. I get no pain from it. Ricotta cheese hurts. Puréed refried beans hurt. Tofu hurts. Everything hurts. Haha. -
Pulmonary Embolism After Surgery
imightknow replied to Parrot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe it is a few weeks to a month. Well, you'll know by then. I've had several clots and a couple pulmonary embolisms. The first clot wasn't diagnosed for about three weeks after the surgery I had. After I had my third child, I developed a clot and pe about two months later. They said that it was too far out to have been caused by my csection. -
Hey! How can you tell if you are full when eating brothy soups? No hard or soft food. Just the broth. Is there a sign, since it is liquid? I was able to sip a couple teaspoons. I heard my stomach rumble and then I burped twice. I took that as a sign. Lol. But I wasn't sure.

How did you ask for time off work?
imightknow replied to bbk95's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just finished training for my new job and had my surgery 2 days later. During the 6 weeks of training, I mentioned to my manager that I was having surgery. I did not say what kind of surgery, because I am a secret sleever and I just don't tell people my business. When it got closer to the surgery date, she helped me schedule to where I had a week off (I work from home), using UPT. She said if I needed longer, I could go through hr and submit paperwork. When I came back this week, my manager has been kind enough to let me leave early and take additional days off to rest. You do not have to tell them what surgery you are having. I believe it is illegal for them to make you tell them. So, if you want to say that you are just needing to have surgery, that is fine. And it is illegal for hr to tell others about your surgery, if you have to submit paperwork that may say something on it. I did have a second manager ask me what I had surgery for. I told him that I did not feel comfortable saying, because I am a private person. He said no problem and that he understood. -
Early Post-Op Eating
imightknow replied to Redo2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan is different. 1st day was clear liquids. Second day, they brought me a protein shake. When I was discharged, in the doctor's instructions for me, it stated that I had to drink so much water and 1 can of protein shake a day. I was sleeved on 7/3. I went to my post op appointment today. The nurse practitioner told me I wasn't drinking enough protein shakes. She grabbed a handout that said I was supposed to be drinking 3 shakes a day. Even though I had just told her that it was hard for me to get down one. I don't know why they told me something different in the discharge papers. I get to start soft foods on Monday (2 weeks). -
Anyone have a C section and then get sleeved? Pain difference?
imightknow replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had 3 csections. And the pain has always been easy for me. I don't like pain medication, so I'd never take it once I left the hospitals. My last csection was the worst on me though. But I still stopped pain meds as I usually did. I never used wraps or anything. I had my vsg surgery on Monday, the 3rd. It was somewhat painful, but not too bad at all. There are internal pains here and there, but I'm not in constant pain. -
Haha. This probably an odd question, but maybe not? What happens if you are on your period during the surgery? Do they let you use tampons or free flow (haha) everywhere? I'm probably going to be on mine when I have surgery, so I wanted to know what to expect.

I had my pre-op appointment on Friday. The surgeon never came in. The nurse practitioner was in and out so quickly. I asked the coordinator lady what I should do, since she was telling everything else I needed to do. This is how that went: Me: what do I do if I am on my period that day? C: Tampon Me: ok, I wasn't sure. C: well, you could.... just a minute. A few minutes later... C:Any other questions? Me: Yeah, the one about the period?! C: You could do either. C: So, you think that will be your day, huh? Me: I believe so. C: that sucks. :/ it was so weird. So I am just going to take both and ask the nurse when I changed. -
Why is today so tough?!?
imightknow replied to chamilton0323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only get 5 shakes a day. But they give us a list of different shakes we could use. I have premier protein shakes. They aren't that bad. I don't like that they are made of milk and remind me of milk, since I don't drink milk. But they are the best ones, so I'm drinking them because I have to. If I had a month long pre-op diet, I would have cheated too. That's crazy. It blows my mind how doctors are so different in what they recommend. I was reading a thread about cheating on the diet and some only had to do 2 days! -
Should I begin my liquid diet now?!
imightknow replied to LuckyCharm88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tested myself. It was rather easy to get through a week on the liquid diet, but it's a mind thing. When you are testing, you get food when it is over. I'm on my pre-op diet now and it really messes with me know that I won't be able to have certain foods again.... even if I cut them out or reduced them before. So it makes it a little harder. -
Why is today so tough?!?
imightknow replied to chamilton0323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JUNE 3RD!!!! Wow. My surgery is also July 3rd, but I started my pre-op diet on the 17th... which was a couple days before I actually had to start. I don't eat meat, but my family does.... so cooking hasn't been that hard for me. But I have been craving certain foods so bad. Not sugars, thankfully and not meat. But today has been tough. I had my pre-op appointment, I took one protein shake with me. Thought it would last. But the appointment went on forever. And I'm not allowed to eat on my pre-op diet. I'm allowed sugar free jello and popsicles, but I can't eat them. I'm hoping tomorrow will be better, since I'll be within reach of the shakes. -
I see a lot of sleeved people on Instagram eating pizza all the time. I've seen one who only eats the topping. I was told that I wouldn't be able to eat it anymore. But they make many alternatives, like cauliflower crust. So I don't think we will miss out on much. It just depends on what way we choose to eat. I am on my pre op diet now and dreamed I was eating pizza last night. I panicked (in my dream) when I remembered I was on my pre op diet. Haha.

I was added to a group on Facebook for a surgeon in Mexico and I saw some post that the surgeon has them take Magnesium Citrate a few days before surgery. Has anyone that didn't go to Mexico, do the same thing? My doctor told me that I need to "stay on top of it" because if we are cleared out, it makes it easier on us after surgery. Less gas and pain. But she didn't really give any suggestions or anything. If you did have to take something, what do you recommend and what was post op like for you? Please do not say "every doctor is different, ask your surgeon." Ugh. I'm asking for everyone's experience. I swear I get dumb responses like that all the time, and I know that. The whole point of this forum, is for support and to learn from others.

I think you are lucky here. I am not allowed food. Strictly protein shakes. They did say sugar free popsicles and jell-o, but I can't have either because that type of stuff gives me indigestion.
-
I thought I had replied to you before, but I didn't see it. I am scheduled for the same day. I started my pre-op diet too. I've practiced it before, just so that I would know what to expect.... but starting the actual pre-op diet has been crazy. All of a sudden, I am craving foods because I know that I won't be able to eat them again. It truly messes with your head. If you need someone to chat with, message me.

TMI**** Women ONLY****
imightknow replied to imightknow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haha. I find it hilarious that these comments are made. I know that I pee and bleed from different places. I'm 28 years old. Haha. If I am wearing a pad and underwear, how would they place a catheter during the surgery?! That is what I'm asking. So I am wondering what people had to do, did they wear tampons? Were they wearing pads? What happened?! Did they even get a cath? My surgeon does straight caths during surgery. In and out. I wasn't asking for an anatomy lesson. -
How long after surgery did you have to wait before taking vitamins? Also, what kind of vitamins do you prefer?

The hospital should have the mesh underwear. The give them to women after delivering babies, so they should be able to hunt some down for you if they don't have them on hand. My pre-op is friday, so I'm going to ask my doctor. That way I know what to expect.
