I do NOT want to tell my dad.

I know him. He will want to be at the hospital while the surgery is happening. And I don't want the doc to come out and update everyone and let the nature of the surgery out. Thank you for the suggestions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm not going to tell him the nature of my surgery. Ever. But I can't hide the fact that I will have had surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  5. Hello everyone! My surgeon asked me to do a sleep study and so I did, which indicated that I needed to use a CPAP. fine. Prior, I was hardly ever tired. I went to bed at 930-10 and woke at 630-7. I've been on the cpap for two nights. I've tolerated the mask well and worn it for more than 7 hours each night. But....for the last two days I've been exhausted. What gives? I thought this was supposed to help me feel better?!? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fear

The standard response here seems to be that there is nothing anyone can do about skin; however, there is no discussion of anyone even attempts to lessen the probability of loose skin pre-surgery. I dry brush every day. It's invigorating and feels oh-so-good. I even brush my husband. He loves it. I moisturizer with a glycolic/salicylic acid moisturizer all over my body to help with exfoliation. I have started doing glycolic peels on my upper arms and abdomen as well as using the Rodan and Fields AmpMD roller. I use collagen hydrosolate daily and make a point to meet my Water goals. I may have loose skin. But I refuse to accept the party line that there is nothing that can be done. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hello friends! For those of you who are dry brushing, a few questions: When did you start? How often do you dry brush? Are you using essential oils as well? Moisturizing? Thanks!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  11. I remember reading once that there was a place to order supplements that insurance would pay for? HELP! Also, are there any inexpensive resources for Protein powder? Do any of you use a subscription type service that automatically sends your Vitamins and supplements? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I booked my surgery two weeks ago and like you, have mixed feelings. Right now I'm mostly depressed that I "let" myself get into the situation where surgery seems to be my only option. Other times I'm excited to be the activity partner my family deserves. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  14. Had my surgeon meeting today. April 17th!!!!!!! He said that I could expect to lose between 50% and 70% of my excess body weight. I forgot to ask him.....is that my weight the day of surgery or from the beginning? I'm down 16 pounds in 2 months, hoping to lose 50 before April. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  17. Thank you for this post. I, too, have been concerned that there has been very little positive discussion on pre and post operative skin care. I am also dry brushing. In addition, I'm using a glycolic/salycilic acid based lotion that I put on my arms, chest, stomach, upper legs and rear. Though I have not already, I plan to use glycolic acid peels on these areas to stimulate new skin growth. I also take collagen hydrosolate (sp?) with my Protein shakes in the morning. My sister is a Rodan and Fields rep and I've bought the Amp MD roller that I use on my belly. I would love to have some amazing before and afters for her to use!!! Sure, my skin may sag after surgery, but I will never wonder if I could have or should have done more to help myself before surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hello..... Between my first two visits with the nutritionist, I lost 12 pounds in a month. Yay me. I'd like to lose 50 pounds before surgery, which I am hopeful will be in April. I log all of my food on the Lose It app. I planned to go off plan for thanksgiving. But I'm having trouble getting back on plan. I've set myself up in the app to restrict calories per day (to lose 2 pounds a week) but for the last week, have gone over on calories and especially carbs. I'm disappointed in myself. I'm comparing myself to my friend who had the surgery and laughed it off that she lost 7 pounds before surgery. Why can't I be satisfied with the 12 I've lost and just hold tight? Because I want and need to lose as much as possible. I'm really just whiney right now and in need of a swift kick in the ass.
  19. Had my second meeting with the nutritionist yesterday. I've lost 12 pounds since our first meeting. Yay me. I've decided not to share that I am having WLS to anyone but my close family. I'm laying the groundwork now to prep my coworkers for the coming weight loss. They see me drinking my Protein shakes. They see me reading The Beck Diet Solution on my breaks. I'm vocal when I lose a pound. Anyone else do this? Trying to keep flapping gums to a minimum. Hoping to have surgery in the spring and hoping to take off 50 pounds by that time. 20. I just returned from my second visit with the nutritionist. She is a nice lady and I enjoy the time I spend with her..... ......but......... I've been on a million diets. I know starchy v. non-starchy vegetables; sodium is bad; Proteins are good, etc. Anyone but me feel like your time and money would be better spent with a therapist or psychologist instead? You know, so I can figure out why I gulp down food like I'll never eat again and continue to put shit in my body instead of the good stuff? Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    So Humiliated

We live in a college town and this year, we are hosting and exchange student from France. Tonight at the university they are doing an evening of French poetry, songs and theatre. I have my second visit with the nutritionist on Monday. No date for surgery. I am not going to this event that I really want to go to with my family because the seats in this particular theater are too small. I'm so humiliated. Why in the hell must I wait?!? Isn't 30 years of being fat enough. :sobbing: Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    So Humiliated

Thanks everyone. I stayed home and cried and went to bed early. I'm logging my food and losing weight before the surgery; just wish it didn't take so long. I know next year it will be better but our exchange student is here now and I'm missing out on her experience. I'm pissed that I didn't do this sooner. I'm pissed because I let myself get so heavy. I'm just pissed......actually I'm ok now.....until the next thing I miss because I'm tubby. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-Op Skin Care

Hello Everyone! I wondered if you did any skin preparation pre-op to (hopefully) lessen sagging skin later. My mother is an aesthetician and I have access to chemical peels to use for face and bod as well as glycolic/salycilic lotions and cleansers. I've ordered a set of dry brushes and also have a Rodan and Fields Amp MD roller that I thought I would try on my body. I realize this attempt may be futile, but what did you do? Did it work? Would it have worked had you been consistent? I'm open to everything. Thanks!!!
  24. Hello Everyone! I have an initial appointment with the surgical center on Tuesday and have already completed one appointment with a nutritionist and completed my psychological evaluation. I asked the psychologist for reading material suggestions and she gave me hers. I've ordered the book from Amazon. I've been focusing on not drinking with lunch and chewing everything to the point of applesauce. I've also purchased some Protein shakes to try for Breakfast as well as a multi-Vitamin. I've been lurking here for a bit trying to get an idea of what to do with myself for the next six months. I think I would be best served with small changes that accumulate over time v. making all changes right before surgery. What were some of your baby steps? What resources did you find helpful? Thanks! -CG
