  1. Hello all! A few years ago my mother had a gastric sleeve procedure and had amazing results. Now that I am seriously considering one, she's trying to talk me out of it. She cites she still has a lot of nausea, dizziness, etc. Perhaps she's that way since she was not in very good health before the surgery. My BMI is 38, very high cholesterol, BP lately is terrible and my sleep apnea is getting worse (but not enough for insurance to cover surgery, grrrr.) I don't want to be ANY bigger and have my health get worse. So I am scratching my head on why she is trying to talk me out of this. I am a grown woman (well, mostly.. ) but I take her opinion seriously seeing as she has gone through it. Has anyone else had nausea/dizziness linger years after the procedure?
  2. Thank you all for taking the time to reply. My surgery is now scheduled for December 13--the same day she had her own surgery a few years ago. After more talking she's decided I have indeed thought this through. She's now supportive. And now we have the same sleeveaversary!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  6. Your husband was eating Taco Bell, Chipotle and pizza in front of you? IN THE HOSPITAL?
  7. @redheadjo Brava! you might be alone on the plane, but you aren't alone really! We're all here with ya! I was like you--I decided in ONE DAY I was going to get this done. I didn't even tell my husband until after I went to the first consult. I'm a self pay, and thank goodness, I think I'd go bat-poo bonkers if I had to wait 6 more months to wait for insurance to bless this. I love Mexico, personally. I spent a week in Guadalajara to go to an immersive Spanish school. You have an excellent doctor from what I've read about him. Thanks for sharing your moment with us and best of luck!

    New

Welcome! yes, it's all a bit overwhelming: all the terminology, all the appointments, all the requirements. You'll learn. It's a journey, take one day at a time. I'm a busy mom like you--2 teenage boys, one stepdaughter, 2 cats, 2 dogs and a husband. I work full-time as a military analyst AND have a part-time sewing business on the side. I keep focused by making one change at a time and looking at before and after pictures. I do that A LOT on this board. I also am obsessed with information about the surgery and what my life is going to be like. I'm trolling this board a lot. Also, I think having a support group like this board keeps me focused. Again, welcome to the board. Read, laugh, share, enjoy.

    Time your eating

I think I need to get a food scale! I have never weighed my food, I think it's time to do so!
  10. Heck, my husband had his gallbladder removed two years ago. He's a little overweight BUT last time I checked he wasn't over 40 and wasn't female. And the gallbladder surgery wasn't a big deal at all. I think it took longer to knock him out than the actual surgery time. I think one of the worst surgeries to have is your tonsils removed as an adult. My husband had that done about 9 years ago. We were all miserable. Any surgery has risks. I'm falling apart at a rapid pace (sleep apnea, cholesterol, arthritis, high blood pressure). Odds are pretty good this surgery will alleviate these problems!
  11. He's adding up ALL that could possibly go wrong to get a big number--a big number to shock you. Which isn't proving his point. I'd throw back some numbers totaling 100% of the risks of staying obese. You can have complications coloring your hair (allergic reaction), eating too much cheese (constipation) and listening to too much Nickelback (headaches and regret). Ok, so I made the last one up.
  12. @@ShelterDog64 It went very well! I asked some of the questions you had suggested, and I feel even more at ease with my decision. (I was catheterized several times as a child, it still freaks me out! now I know that this surgery is so quick, I won't have to have one!). I've had to move my surgery back one week for multiple reasons, but I'm so ready to do this!

YESSSSSSSS...the shag carpet one. My grandma had emerald green shag carpet. Oh, and the 'crouton' one. These are awesome.
  14. @@Dknal2 Hope went well for you today! We are cheering for you. Not judging your husband, but damn it sounds like he doesn't like losing control of unhealthy you. Saying stuff like that--it's all mind games. But I'd wager you're stronger than mind games-- obviously you are, you've given birth and NOW you're getting 80% of your stomach removed. That's hardcore! But maybe he's going to see what good this is going to be for you. Here's to hoping. Rooting for you back here in 'Bama!!!
  15. YESSS! Today would have been my original date for my surgery, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to reschedule for next Tuesday. Argggg....one more week.

    Long Night....

I am so sorry to hear this...but you're absolutely right, people do not realize what OTCs can do. A girl in my high school committed suicide by taking a lot of Tylenol. Praying for strength and grace for your family.

An old short story from years ago

We raised Chows when I was a kid. They are a 'complex' breed but worth the work if you're a dog person. Our female was ultra protective of us. You just never know what a dog (or a toddler) are going to get into.
  18. You have people all over the country rooting for ya! Good luck!
  19. Had to move my surgery date back a week, but I'm still focused and READY FOR THIS!

  20. I had to reschedule back one week! So now I have two dates on the calendar. My new date is December 13. It's destiny b/c my mom was sleeved on the same day a few years ago!!!!
  21. @ShelterDog64 THANK YOU, THANK YOU for posting this info!!! I'm leaving in 15minutes for my pre-op!! (My surgery is Monday!) I wrote these questions down.

Hi All! I've been posting on the open forum for about a month now. This forum has become my new obsession! I'm getting sleeved on 5 December. Right now I'm planning on going back to work in about a week. (I'm a gov analyst, it's not too physically strenuous!) I'm self pay since I was 32 BMI the past few years. Though weighing 190+ at 5'3 sucks. I'd lose about 20 pounds and put it right back on. I guess everyone here can relate to that. In my spare time (hahahaha, what is that? I have teenagers...) I run a sewing business on the side. I'm probably too old to cosplay, but it doesn't stop me. I'm a shameless geek. I usually attend a few comicons all over the country (NYCC is my FAVORITE!). I own Jedi robes, a light saber, several wigs and lots of costumes. This year when I had to cut out the biggest size of a pattern and it didn't fit after I worked hours on the costume, I knew I had to do something. I don't want to be 200 pound Sailor Moon (if anyone remembers that episode of Big Bang Theory) , Princess Leia or whatever I want to Cosplay!
