Has anyone looked at the money they have saved post op?
Malin replied to mbuczkowski's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
great question! I am going to make a point to compare expenses of my life before and after surgery. I am self pay, I see this as an investment in myself. But I would like to be able to have concrete proof this was a good investment! -
Alcohol Transference Prevention
Malin replied to OKCPirate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Gotcha. And you're absolutely right, if there's no big profit in it there's no advertising. There were a few raging alcoholics in my family (notice the past tense usage...), and something like Neltrexone could have saved their lives. -
Alcohol Transference Prevention
Malin replied to OKCPirate's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
WOW, very interesting. I have never heard of Neltrexone. If they advertise Chantix for smokers (and they do quite heavily!), why do we not hear about Neltrexone or see ads for it? As much grief drinking has caused me (usually from running my fat mouth..), I know I would buy it! -

I've had squirrel! I remember we had to eat it carefully to avoid the buckshot. I was just a kid. I've also had rabbit--no lie, bbq rabbit is GOOD. Ah, venison! it's SO good. I recently made venison stuffed mushrooms. Hardly ANY fat in that meat. It's some of the most lean meat I've ever cooked with. It's really a shame it isn't commercially available in stores. It's GOOD for you! Unfortunately, the last deer killed by anyone here at Casa Enfuego was the one that hit us (yes, it hit us when it ran out when it was chasing a sexy girl deer) we were coming home from Six Flags last year. It did about $2000 in damage to our car. the good little redneck girl in me wanted to go back for it, but it was 0300 in the morning!

How do you deal with the emotional/food triggers?
Malin replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@simpsongrad @@The New Kel I'm mom to 3 kids (2 boys, 1 stepdaughter). And this time of year, I find myself thinking "I HAVE to make this" or "I have to keep Christmas Cookies around" (like those impossibly pretty ones on Pintrest and facebook). It's like a measure of my mommyhood. When I was a kid, Christmas was a whirl of my mom and grandmothers making tons of Christmas candy that would be nibbled on until Christmas Eve/Christmas. (I HATED Divinity, and they always made a ton of it) Instead of making food, I'm thinking of focusing on experiences together (Church, charity work, walking and looking at the lights, concerts) than the food part. But it's so dang hard. I had an incredibly crappy day Tuesday, and what was the first thing I had my husband do? Go get me a chocolate malt from Sonic (I'm pre-op). I tried to make my day better with a malt. I just felt fatter and the crappy day wasn't any better really. -
@Rainbow2015 I had to move mine back a week. My scheduled for Dec 13, the same day my mom had her sleeve done three years ago.

The Statistics are not in our favor? (According to my worried Dad)
Malin replied to Anna Nim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dad died in 1982 after a gastric bypass. I am fairly certain his surgeon was NOT trained properly in the technique--and there was a lawsuit. Despite all that, my mother (who is also a RN), opted to get a gastric sleeve, and now I am getting a gastric sleeve too. Yes, there are risks but honestly there are risks with any surgery and just from being obese in general. Thanks for giving a dad's imput, @@LittleBill -
@@Moon Princess I've already got my big box of sugar-free popsicles! I don't care if it's December!

Two Week Countdown - Husband Freaking Out
Malin replied to SeattleSleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@SleevedByChristmas You know, I think he's more afraid of how it's going to impact him. Maybe I'm wrong...but is he obese too? Maybe he's afraid of change...change he can't control. This is nothing new unfortunately...
