Anyone just skip the insurance hoops & go to Mexico?
Malin replied to fatgirlfreed's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I didn't go to Mexico, but I self-payed. I was lucky to find a surgeon who has a reasonable self-pay fee. I paid partially with my medical flex account, my own money and a loan from my bank. If I had to travel after having this surgery, I think I'd cry. But that's just me, some people have been fine traveling back from Mexico. -
Also cures diarrhea of the mouth.

Just checked in to the pre-op area
Malin replied to LBrown 09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know right now you're kinda lonely, but soon you'll be back home and starting your new life. My kids are older so we didn't have to be home when they did, but my husband did not hang around much that evening after the surgery. I was groggy and sore anyway. -
A fan of The Walking Dead, perhaps?

12/20 - No appetite or energy.
Malin replied to Atomic*Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My energy level has been kinda low lately too. I feel like I could nap ALL DAY, unfortunately I have to work! I've been doing light cardio to help with this. -
It's my 'special time of the month' so no weigh loss here ....not to mention I'm sick as a dog with some upper respiratory stuff. I'm down 13 pounds from surgery morning. I got spoiled last week getting on the scale nearly everyday and seeing a smaller number!

For those of you who did not have "food funerals":
Malin replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So friggin true! I'm happy to hear you regretted it. Not in like, a bad way? Hopefully it makes sense. Basically, I know I will. And just like you said, it'll push me farther from my goals. It would essentially feel like I'm starting over on Day 1. I'm really trying not to cheat. It's definitely hard. But just as you said? WE CAN DO IT! Congrats on being 3 weeks post op! Has it gotten any better since having the surgery? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App It has! I am hungry, therefore I need to nourish my body so I eat. But I don't sit around and pine for food. I keep myself busy anyway with my sewing and geekery! This has been the best decision I've made, and I'm saying this having had to abstain from most of the holiday food this year. I wish I had done it sooner, No regrets whatsoever. -

I DID have food funerals, and I regretted it. It didn't make me feel any better, and it just pushed me further from my goals. Food isn't going anywhere. We are breaking the old thoughts of food and reshaping a new view that doesn't center on celebrating food. it's so dang hard. But we can do it. I'm 3 weeks post op today. -
I love my patches! I haven't had any blood tests done yet, but I like the convenience of the patch.

You won't find a more supportive and fun group of women than you will in Roller Derby...believe me, I have tried other sports and they just don't compare. And it's an excellent workout. If you can skate one lap, they can work with you. Give it a shot. I have done derby here in Norway. The community in my town is really small but I loved it. As I piled the weight on skating became too hard. So I plan on going back. I am a little bit to anxious for bouts but I love the skating and training I LOVED the skating too! I am not a fast runner, so skating is my only means of EVER going fast. Our derby team (the Dixie Derby Girls) have been in Huntsville for 10 years, and we even have a junior team for young ladies under 18. I love how derby is growing all over the world. I've considered just being an official once I get good enough, but I want to get on the team for at least one season. Good luck to you @mile80 !

you have to 'graduate' the beginners' program before the physical stuff starts. If you're just starting out, you just learn the basics. It takes a few months before you work on contact. You are taught how to fall and how to make contact (once you graduate, of course). And you have on helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, and mouth guard..even just learning the beginner stuff to keep you safe. But yes it is a contact sport! But you leave it on the rink and go out and party with the other team after a bout.

2.5 weeks post-op.... Puree Stage
Malin replied to kayshabear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think we have to rethink what 'satisfaction' is. It's HARD. When I made my favorite creamy tomato Soup a few days ago, I had to rethink old portions. It used to be a favorite comfort food--and I'd usually eat two bowls. I barely got in a saucer full, and I knew I was done. My old comfort food isn't a comfort anymore. I have to find satisfaction elsewhere. My satisfaction has to be in getting a job done, a errand finished or a sewing project done. I eat to keep my organs working. And ohhhh my goodness it's so hard to wrap my head around this sometimes. -
WHOA! it's like real-life photoshop! Grats!

Pain Meds - How Long Did You Take?
Malin replied to SeattleSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I asked for a refill of my oxycodone, my doctor's office said NO. But I'm getting by now ok with just Tylenol. -
STARTING FROM ZERO ... TODAY
Malin replied to Angelica Marti's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I fall into this category--40 is a high threshold honestly. This fall was the first time in my life I've been over 200. But I've been 190 for the past oh, 5 years, and I'm 5'3 tall on a good day. Both of my parents were/are obese. This year I went over 200 and my body felt very comfortable with it so I took the proactive step of the sleeve. Despite my 'lower' BMI, I have high cholesterol and sleep apnea and my blood pressure was going through the roof. I think every case for gastric surgery is individual and a good, reputable doctor will assess each case on its own merit....hopefully. -
AND..the Nutrisystem ads. UGH. Those things got enough sodium to choke a donkey. They do teach portion control at least. But every darn commercial break....yes, it's time for those resolutions! I don't know about you all, but I get a bit 'uppity' about those commercials. I'm like '5 pounds in a Fast Start? That's so cute!' A little smug knowing what I am doing ACTUALLY WORKS.

I didn't cook one darn thing this year. I just couldn't. But I did enjoy some hot chocolate (the bariatric pal stuff in the store)! At least that's something I can enjoy. I tried to focus on the people and the events more than the food. It's a re-thinking of our holidays. I liked not having a bunch of crap around that I feel like I had to eat or it would go to waste!

I guess the same way an American would be confused by someone from England saying they ate a "spotted d**k" by sucking on it to make it mushy...........Hey wait a minute. It isn't as suggestive with a bugle snack.Really BariatricPal? Spotted d i c k is a real dessert.I guess we can't use the word "d**k. As in: d**k Tracy d**k Van Dyke d**k Cheney d**k's Sporting Goods d**k Cavett d**k and Jane etc. ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1481827 AWWW! Thanks for posting this. I absolutely had no idea what spotted d*ck was I was terrified to google it on my work computer! I'd be having a meeting with the boss next week if I had!

What can I take for pain?
Malin replied to ccmiller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just be sure it's Tylenol and not ibuprofen! You might even try Children's Tylenol liquid if the tabs don't help. -
The best late Xmas present you can give yourself! good luck!!
