Serves 2 2 medium apples, sliced (I leave skin on) 1/4 c balsamic vinegar splenda to taste In a baking dish, mix vinegar and splenda together. Add apple slices, turning to coat. Bake at 375 until apples are tender (about 20 min). I just like to eat them, but you could serve them with lite ice cream I suppose.

Popcorn Cauliflower Cauliflower cut into small pieces (as much as you want) Olive Oil (less is more) Seasoning blend of your choice (I use Mrs. Dash reg or bold and spicy) Coat cauliflower with oil and then toss w/ seasoning blend. Bake on cookie sheet covered with foil at 450 deg for 10-20 minutes or until golden brown. It depends on how much cauliflower you use. Make sure to keep and eye on it so it doesn't burn. It's good hot! YUMMY!

Love, Love your new pic mom!! Gorgeous!! Disclaimer: Another long post...last one today, I promise!! Okay, so my phys ed instructor told me today that....(drum roll, please!)....are you ready? I'm not eating near enough!!!! HA HA!! LOLLOL!!! All my life I've been told that I eat too much, now not enough! Too funny! Anyway, the reason she thinks that is because of all the exercise I'm getting. If I weren't exercising, I'd probably be fine. I always get in at least 65g of protein which is what the nutrtionist told me I needed post surgery. She told me that's not enough protein either. So, what does that all mean? For me to loose 3 pounds a week, I should be eating 1400 cal/day. On average, I'm only getting about 1000 - 1100 cal/day. Adding in 500-600 cal burned per day, well you can do the math. So, she suggesting eating about another 300 cals/day and at least 20g if not 30g more protein per day which will add fuel to get me through my workouts and recovery period. She also wants me to eat Luna protein bars even though they are not the highest in protein, she said it's quality and there are a bunch of other "good" stuff in there that would give me energy (minerals and vitamins and things). So, for breakfast I already usually eat yogurt, fruit, and nuts and now I need to add 1/2 a Luna bar in the morning and the other 1/2 in the afternoon after workouts. So for me that means more planning and prep work to get it all in. I already eat about 5 times per day, she wants me to try to eat 6-7 small meals a day if I'm going to workout this hard. If that isn't possible I'm going to have to be very diligent about eating very balanced meals to compensate. She basically told me my body has said "nope, no way" because I'm not fueling it correctly. I have to say that's probably true because I feel very fatigued a lot of the time. So today I bought chicken, shrimp, and fish. I bought some of those steamer bags I see on Biggest Looser and more veggies. I'll be doing a lot more soups and stews as well. I figured this was the problem, but just wanted confirmation. She also put me on a week of "rest" which means very light physical activity. We're also changing up or workout routines next week so that should help as well. So, there it is. I don't know if this helps anyone else or not, but it's worth a shot for me. I've been hovering at 205 for the past 6 weeks. We shall see!!

Thanks for all your kind words. I really appreciate all of the support I receive here. I don't know what I would do without you guys! Mom - Here are my favorite snacks and I separated them from afternoon and late night/evening because I want different things at those times. Anyway.... Afternoon -Melba Toast or other whole grain cracker w/ 1 wedge light laughing cow -salad (spinach or ceasar w/ light dressing) w/ roasted nuts and a little cheese (feta or parmesan) and croutons -Homemade hummus and melba toast -Melba Toast or other cracker w/ low fat cheese slice such as provalone w/ shaved ham and spicy mustard -Veggie soup or other low fat soup w/ a few croutons -popcorn cauliflower (recipe below) -pan grilled corn tortilla w/ f/f refried beans and lite cheese (a little avocado if I have it.) Evening -Plain f/f Greek yogurt w/ splenda, blueberries, 1 T almonds, and either a piece of chopped up granola bar or 1/2 c of bran flakes -baked apples w/ balsamic vinegar and splenda -sauted fruit like apples or pears in a little oil or butter w/ 1 small scoop lite ice cream or yogurt -Vanilla Soy protein powder made w/ either soy milk or water and frozen cherries or blueberres or peaches (I always add splenda and vanilla) -1 piece high quality dark chocolate -Baked sweet potato w/ a sprinkle of sugar (or splenda) and cinnamon -Diet hot chocolate made with decaf coffee instead of water (sometimes I add a little peppermint extract) I've got lots more, but you get the idea. As you can tell I crave salty and crunchy in the afternoons and sweet at night. I just bought a new cooking magazine, I'll check it out and share the good stuff. I have more info to share with you as my phys ed instructor talked to me today, but I have to go pick up a kiddo so I'll do it later. I'll also post the recipes I talked about above. I'm seriously thinking of starting our own recipe thread. Anyway..... P.S. I am so sorry that my posts always seem to be so long. I'm sort of a talker in life, but it really stands out more to me here! Sorry

Okay, total NSV today!! My kids were out of school so we went to the park. I tried the swing and I fit!!! It's been years since I could swing comfortably! Whoo hooo!!

My eating has been so sporadic and weird, I'm not backtracking. I'll start fresh today. I will tell you I've had too much junk this weekend. Friday night I had several high calorie beverages as well. So, yes, I'm struggling a bit. It's stress and emotional eating at it's finest.
-
Hey guys! My weekend hasn't been great. My good friend's 24 year old son has been bravely battling cancer for a year now. He's loosing that battle. There is nothing else they can do for him except keep him comfortable until the end. I visited with them at the hospital Saturday afternoon. They are the most amazing family with the most amazing faith of anyone I have ever seen. Even though they are devastated, they are at peace because he is not afraid. He's a remarkable young man and will be missed by everyone. So, parents go home tonight if possible and love your kids. Witnessing this family during this horrific time has put a lot of things into perspective for me. I've been haging onto my kids more than usual the last few days. Sorry this is so depressing. I'm just so sad right now.

Welcome aboard Lori!! We are glad you are here! Mom - No the damn scale hasn't budged at all in, well I can't even remember when. My phys ed instructor is supposed to get back to me tomorrow. She's been looking over my meal logs. I'm a little nervous about that because A.) I could be eating a lot cleaner B.) I'm afraid she'll just say "well, duh! Stop eating that crap and you'll start loosing again" C.) It's intimidating for a little tiny, skinny girl to be looking at what I am eating. I hope in the long run it will help not just me, but everyone here as I will share what she says. So, there you go guys, I'm taking one for the team!! Consider me your wingman!! LOL! I've been "throwing" up a lot today. I don't know if it's because I'm really stressed right now and uptight or because I ran 5 miles yesterday. I'm so sick of not loosing, I know I'm pushing myself, but honestly I love it!! I did not love, however, not being able to eat today. Don't know what is up with that. I've been at a really good restriction level for a while now, so I know I'm not too tight. Full moon? Hope you all are having a great night! I've got a super busy weekend, so if I don't check in for a couple of days, have a good one!!!
-
Hey Renewed! I have to say I was a little shocked by your post because I've been the same way today. I had a few bites of a late lunch and on the way to pick up my DD from school, I had to pull over and throw up. Like you it was undigested, but it felt like real vomiting. The same thing at dinner. Weird! I wasn't eating anything I hadn't been able to get down before. I also ran 5 miles yesterday which was more than I usually run. I didn't have time to run today, only to warm up and then lift weights. I wonder now if there is a correlation to running more than usual and our bands being tight. Cottage cheese even acted like it might not go down today. I ate a protein bar for breakfast with no problems, but it was all down hill from there. I've also had the hiccups a lot today which is usually an indication that I've either eaten too much or too fast, both of which hasn't happened today. Interesting. I wonder if this has happened to other runners or people who exercise more than normal? Or is it the full moon? Anyway, you are not alone. I've got yoga tomorrow, but I'm going to try really hard to also get a run in as well. Let me know how you feel tomorrow. Good night all!
-
Yes, so much so that I had to go in and have some taken out. I ate dinner the same night as my fill with no probs. It didn't kick in until about 36 hours later. It was so bad, I couldn't even swallow my own spit. I aspirated saliva and mucous all night long. It was not good. So, be careful.

Wow whosya! That's awesome. I want to do some runs/events for breast cancer so that's an awesome idea. All I can say is WOW!

Oh Leslie, I'm so sorry you are feeling this way, but I can totally relate. It may be that your system is out of whack chemically, but it's also entirely possible that this HUGE adjustment it taking it's toll emotionally. We have had so many changes over the last 6 months, mostly for the good, but change can be stressful. Sometimes we don't realize that we try to hold onto the past in little ways. And Lork knows we as women don't take the time we need for ourselves to destress! And I say we because I'm talking to myself as well. For me, it was really scary to give up my bestfriend in the whole world...food. I know that sounds horrible, but it's true. Food has always been there for me when I was down, stressed, whatever. Now it can't be or I should say I don't want it to be. I'm not saying that is what you are going through, but I do understand the emotional toll this journey has created. When I've had a bad day the first thing I want to do is eat, and there are days that I can't control it and I give in. We are human and we are going to do that from time to time. There have been times at my house when I was sure my head actually spun all the way around while yelling for whatever reason. Usually it was nothing, just something that hit me the wrong way and I lost control. I, of course, felt terrible afterwards because I know I could never take it back. I just tried to make ammends as best I could and move on. With my girls, I always try to explain why I freaked out even if there is no explaination except to say "I goofed up". I could say the things we all like to tell each other, "don't worry about it, it's over, move on". Which are all true, but I also know that won't help you feel better. So I'll just say I understand and no one here thinks you are a bad person or that you are failure. So you shouldn't think that either. You have done an amazing job and you are such a cool, wonderful, sweet, beautiful person. You messed up. So what? We all do it. Move on, it's over. HAHAHAH LOLOLOL! Look I said it anyway. I'm sorry I don't have a solution for you. I think you are doing the right thing by going to your doc. Tell him exactly how you are feeling and if he's a good doc, he'll help you feel better, not just physically but emotionally as well. Asking for help is the best thing you could do for yourself and by taking care of yourself you are providing for your family. I hope you feel better soon because you are so loved here by us all!! Chin up girlfriend, things will get better soon!!

Thanks for speaking up. I've always wondered about that. Congrats on your weight loss! That is awesome! Happy Bandisversary next week!!
-
ROFLOL! You and me both girl! I'm thinking I could toss each of em over my shoulders!! Eww! Not a pretty visual! Sorry. I did a class like this years ago and it was a booty kicker for sure. I wish I could do it again though. Good luck!! Congrats!! I know you are so ready, I'm so happy for you!
-
Way to go renewed!! Kick his booty! A 9 minute mile!! Awesome! The best I've done so far is a 12 minute mile. I did a 3 mile run/walk around the Jr. High by my house. It sits on top of a hill like some sort of fortress or prison! LOL! Anyway, I did that and boy were those hills steep. I tried to run up hill and walk if I needed to on the straights. Then this afternoon I did a 2 mile run on my treadmill. You are all doing so great! Keep it up!
-
Absolutely!! Tell her to jump in anytime! Okay guys, I feel totally disgusting today. I feel fat and just icky! I've been feeling so good about myself, but not today. Still hanging onto that 1.5 pounds gained. Do you guys ever have days like that? Days where you just want to put a sack over your head and a giant garbage bag around your body so no one can see you? Or is it just me? ICK!!! Probably doesn't help that I ate a giant candy bar last night. And I wonder why I can't loose the poundage? Duh!!! L2L - Does your back feel better today? Brandy - I'm not loosing either! Hang in there girl! Hope you guys all have a great evening. I'm gonna get on the treadmill for a little while before we go to dinner!
-
Oh girlfriend it was better than you know what, at least last night!!! LOL!

Leslie - sorry to hear about your back. What about swimming until it feels better? Does your gym have a sauna or whirlpool? Don't overdo because it will be worse in the long run. Georgia - sorry your little boy is sick. I hate the ER! I hope he feels better. Good luck Kathy!! I'm taking two phys ed classes this semester and one of my instructors announced yesterday that we would be competing against each other at the end of the semester in a 5K! Awesome!! As far as I know, I'm the only one training for one. However, yesterday I got a rude awakening. I've been training on the treadmill (it's Texas and has been hot until just recently), but yesterday we ran outside. YIKES! It's very different. So, today I'm going to start training outside. I want to win!!! Hope everyone has a good day!!

Can a dr do this? i am sooo mad
Bea1128 replied to Lshelley21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, it is not legal unless you gave written consent for him to discuss your medical condition with your parents. You should have signed a form at some point either giving permission or not. If they are not listed as people it is okay to discuss your medical condition with, he has broken the law. He can release info to your insurance company if you have one and for the purposes of public health safety if that was an issue; otherwise, it is up to you who gets your health care info. If you don't mind my asking, how did he even come to speak with your mom at all? -

Wow! Everyone has done so well! Don, I'm glad you said something about the exercise. I'm wondering if that's happening to me. I'm literally working my booty off at least 5 days a week. I'm running, lifting weights, and yoga one day a week. I'm eating a very healthy balanced diet and with all the exercise you'd think I'd be loosing, right? WRONG!!! I gained 1.5 pounds last week. I know muscle weighs more, blah blah! I've been in the same plateau for a couple of months; however I am toning up quite nicely and loosing inches. I don't know if I just need to work through and keep going or what. Maybe I should back off a little? Any advice? -
The tightness of my band fluctuates on a daily basis, sometimes even hourly. It's weird. I can eat something for lunch with no problem, but sometimes I can't eat it again for dinner that same day. Other days it's no problem. I never know from day to day. I exercise quite a bit so I'm not sure if that's it or if it's a water retention thing or what! It's frustrating at times. I'm sorry I don't have any advice, I just kind of go with the flow. I can tell almost immediately if I'm going to have trouble and I stop. Since being banded I've not been able to eat chicken, then all of the sudden I could eat is some of the time. Go figure! There are days when eating almost seems like a chore instead of a pleasure. On those days, I eat to live and eat what I can like soup, yogurt, protein shakes, etc. I'm all ears if anyone else has any answers or suggestions.

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've been on this thread. I kind of wimped out over the summer, but I'm training again. I've dropped my time by 6 minutes, it's still not great, but I'm getting better. I'm running at least 5 days a week now, along with lifting weights and one day of yoga. I feel like I'm really improving which is making me want to do more. I hope to start doing 5K after the first of the year. I've got a lot of work to do to catch up with you guys, but you are all an inspiration! Thanks for the motivation!!
