Time to Brag: Share Your Recent Accomplishments!
emardee replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
1. I'm so close to "onederland" I can taste it. Or, err, not taste it as the case may be. 2. I started rowing on Saturday, at the gym. The rowing machine kicked my ass. I vowed to it that I was gonna avenge myself and kick it back on Tuesday. 3. I've consistently tracked everything that goes into my mouth via myfitnesspal for a month. The moral of that story: more Protein. All in all, it's been a good nine weeks since surgery. -
Pickle juice? Epic!

DJ, how do you eat cottage cheese? Any mix-ins, or salsa topped, or ... I like it in things (like a lasagne made with zucchini strips sted of noodles) but I can't quite get into plain. Help.

I think when I was starting out, I ate half of a Laughing Cow or half of a Babybel. I found I didn't want more than that. that's what i was thinking ! dumb question , but one in a sitting right ? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have patch envy. The worst part of this (really, at this point, the only thing that bugs me about the post-surgery world) is the chalky chewable multivitamins. But like most people say on here: follow your plan, do what your surgeon tells you, and mine says no on the patches.

dinner tonight is the Zuni Cafe roast chicken recipe (I'll have some without the bread salad that goes along with it) and Brussels sprouts roasted with olive oil and garlic. I'll have about an ounce and a half of chicken, three sprouts and I'll be full. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

My surgeon says no on the Patches. The companies that make them refuse to share data and there haven't been any papers published on their efficacy. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

My Phys. Asst. says fruit is a sometimes food, after Protein and whole grains. (I was craving a ripe pear at about 6 weeks out.) Sugar-free/fat-free pudding mix (they have them in a bunch of flavors now, including butterscotch) mixed with skim milk is a good sweet treat, plus you get your protein up with the milk. Sweet things are made of cheese. Who am I to dis a brie?

How Things Have Changed

My mom's dressing too would be my downfall. Raisins, prunes, ground meat and stale bread, lots of onions, celery and butter. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone ever have a stricture?
emardee replied to Torressl1234's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a stricture before surgery and it landed me in the ER or the gastroenterologist's table at least a half dozen time. I usually couldn't clear it on my own so they'd have to go fishing for it. It was a miserable experience and wouldn't wish it on anyone. -

I usually host the big blow out meal for Thanksgiving, with family, cousins and friends who are on their own. This year, we're traveling for a few weeks around Thanksgiving and we'll be in New York. Our children will join us for the holiday. I expect a much smaller turkey, fewer sides and one dessert. Or we go out. But we will definitely line up on the street to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade -

I am a Moleskine addict. We have problems! I'd like to think nothing... And then I look at the sheer volume of Moleskins and markers, and pencils and crap....in a duffle bag I drag around when needed. And the Pinterest posts on BJ'ing, and the washi tape.... Damn. Ugh. Me too. What is WRONG with us?

Current obsessions: Learning to knit. Teaching myself Adobe Muse. "The Fall" on Netflix. That really annoying Japanese organization book. Who the SF Giants are going to trade or cut before next season. New and clever ways of eating hummus without crackers. The Life Changing Magic of Fat-free/sugar-free Jello pudding. And you can have my colored pencils and coloring books when you pry them from my cold, dead hands.

@@Dub Sounds like your NUT and my NUT have been hanging out, minus the her needing to eat more salad. Mine told me lettuce is a waste of space and hard to digest. She said I could, however, start with cooked spinach and move on to raw, see how it treated me. I haven't gotten there yet, but generally, she recommended I rethink my definition of salad.

I worked with a trainer, and when she got bumped up to be the manager, she set me up with another trainer. Love 'em both -- the place I go is hospital affiliated and I have the sense that the people who work there are really invested in my health. Doesn't make doing 100 hip lifts easier, but it's nice knowing they care! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Will I be broken forever?
emardee replied to kjkashmaniac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
KJ, it gets better. It gets so much better you won't believe it. The first weeks were so rough it had me questioning why I did it. You have to give your body time to heal and your mind time to get with the program. And at a week out, you have anesthesia still working its way out of your system. You need a lot of rest. Go give your pup a scratch behind the ears. And lean on folks here. It's been a great help to me. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Morning after surgery I asked the doc when I could go back to lifting weights and he said, as soon as you want to. I proceeded to go home and sleep for three weeks. (Not really, but close enough.) Once I did get back into it, I found there were things I couldn't do: Swiss ball sit ups caused a sharp pain, so did the leg lifts (on the machine that looks like it should be in the film "Alien.") So I waited a few more weeks to do those and now it's all good. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

What Is Your Halloween Strategy?
emardee replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Candy was never my thing (although I would cheerfully blow up a busload of nuns for a bag of potato chips). So around here, the bag of candy from costco is still in the trunk of the car and it can/will stay there until Monday late afternoon when the trick-or-treaters come out.
