Tell me this is a joke.... so angry!
mike4276 replied to tigraq08's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have BCBS also. I had to have my surgery at Blue Center of Excellence also. The good thing is I had decided to use surgeons there to begin with and am not disappointed at all. We have a local doctor that does this surgery occasionally but the surgeons at the Blue Center (which was about 30 miles away) do approximately 300 of these a year. I appreciated the thoroughness. I am 63 and was checked by a cardiologist and pulmonary doctor, pre-op and post-op I've seen a psychiatrist, dietician, and a fitness/exercise specialist. My surgeon's office is in the same hospital as the surgery was performed. One whole floor is dedicated to bariatric patients and the nurses all know exactly how to handle any situation. It can be frustrating with all the hoops you have to jump through but hang in there. It is so worth it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I had my gastric bypass about 4 months ago and have lost 75 pounds. It is important to drink your fluids and get your Protein to lose weight. I too had trouble getting my fluids and protein. I use to drink Water all day but after my surgery couldn't stand it. Try different things. I found out I had no problem drinking decaf coffee, no-sugar hot chocolate, tomato juice, Soup, etc. Just try different things and eventually your taste for plain ole water will come back. As for protein I couldn't stomach Protein drinks or bars. My doctor told me to try GENEPRO. I order in from Amazon. One tablespoon has 30 grams of protein and is unflavored. You can put it in your coffee, hot chocolate, or whatever. It doesn't change the consistency or flavor. It is great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Best chewable and gummie vitamins?
mike4276 replied to erica2185's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I take one chewable Opurity Vitamin and 2 Viactiv calcium caramel chews per day. I buy the Opurity Vitamins at the gift shop at the hospital where my surgery was done. They are like a citrus/berry flavor but Ivan tolerate them and everything is in one chewable pill. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

My doctor also suggested a product called GENEPRO. He said there is 30g of Protein in a tablespoon. It is unflavored and can be added to Water, crystal light, oatmeal or anything. I haven't tried it yet but he says it is great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

5 Days Post Op and feeling Regretful
mike4276 replied to momto3E's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 13 weeks post-op. I think the first 3 or 4 weeks were stressful on me. I didn't feel like eating or drinking. I just didn't want it and I was constantly worrying about fluids and Protein. After that first month I just started feeling better. My knees and back don't hurt anymore. I'm down 65 pounds and getting into smaller clothes. Luckily I never had to deal with any gas pains. I think it sounds like you are doing fine. At four weeks I had lost 22 pounds. At 13 weeks I am down 65 pounds. It has slowed down quite a bit the last couple of weeks. My doctor is very happy with my results. He had predicted I would be down 50 pounds at 12 weeks. Don't forget to walk and exercise. I spend 30 minutes on the treadmill and next day my scales are down 2 pounds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My doctor prescribed Prilosec. I was told to open the capsules and pour the contents on top of sugar free pudding or oatmeal and take it that way. I guess it helps healing the stoma. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am thankful for the doctor and hospital where I had my surgery. They do a one month, three months, 6 months, and yearly checkups. After I meet the doctor I have meetings with a dietician, exercise specialist, and a psychiatrist. I can also call them anytime I need them. I thank God they are so thorough and care about my good health. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

After a few weeks you'll feel great. It's a little crazy at first. I think I worried too much about drinking enough fluids and getting enough Protein but you'll figure it out. I'm 13 weeks post-op. I've lost 65 pounds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I eat a couple of saltine crackers with a little bit of Peanut Butter on them. The peanut butter helps with my Protein intake. I'm 13 weeks post-op. sugar-free Jello pudding is a good snack. I seem to crave salt. My doctor suggested I eat a small amount of salted almonds as a snack. It might be too early for you to try the almonds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm three months out and still struggle to get enough Protein and drink enough fluids. Before my surgery I could drink 7 or 8 bottles of Water in a day. Now I force myself to drink one. I have found out I can drink decaf coffee, sugar free hot chocolate, tomato juice, etc better than water. I found a product available at Walmart, Meijer, & Amazon called New whey. It has 42g of protein in only 3.8oz of liquid. I like the fruit punch flavor. It's much easier to get less than 4oz down than 12oz. It is kind of expensive at $14.99 for 6. My doctor just recommended a product called GENEPRO available on Amazon. One tablespoon is 30 grams of protein and it is unflavored. He says mix it with a drink or oatmeal or Soup and I will never taste it. It gets very good reviews. I'm going to try it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I had my gastric bypass on July 19 the day before my 63rd birthday. I was just ready to spend my life a little smaller. I was tired of my back and knees killing me everyday. I started this journey at 334 pounds the day of my surgery. I had my 3 month follow up visit last week and had lost 60 pounds. My knees and back do not hurt right now. I can bend down and pick something off the floor and to do that before was really rough. Right now my biggest challenge is to eat slower and chew chew chew. If you eat to fast the pain will start and you will get the mucus foamies. You probably won't feel better until you bring it up. Remember if you overeat you can stretch your pouch. Remember to eat meat first and vegetables second. You need that Protein. It also helps you lose weight. Keep the carbs down. My doctor says less than 60g of carb and more than 60-80g of protein.
