  1. Hey guys! today I am 2 weeks post op I am finally feeling comfortable enough to lay on both sides... Does anyone have recommendations for belly laying at this point? I want to try but don't want to hurt myself internally. Had my 1 week post op last Tuesday and found out I lost a whopping 22 pounds in the first 8 days! Which was soo exciting!! The doctor didn't seem concerned like I had lost too much. I am now anxious to step on the scale at my next appointment next week. I cannot wait to get on soft foods. I cannot seem to find a Protein shake I like. Most are too sweet or too chalky. The only one I liked was the Core Power strawberry banana they gave me in the hospital, which of course I cannot find anywhere in a store in my area. So I am having issue getting in all my protein. I am doing well with Water though. I get my liquids in every day. Next week I think they will move me on to soft foods.. I cannot wait to get some mashed cauliflower! I have been only able to eat sweets and I am about ready for something savory.

    2 weeks post op..

Thank you! and congrats to you! how do you feel? What are you eating for soft foods. And I eat everything sugar free and caffeine free but even the sugar free stuff and the protein shakes taste way too sweet. I know my tastes have changed already. I tried to eat some soup and it was like a spoonful of salt in my mouth. i took one bite and put the rest away. So I am afraid to try anything else along those lines.

Pre-op yesterday- 4 days and counting.

@@TAJ718 I definitely was! I had my surgery on 10/31.. Was so nervous and then after was in a lot of pain. But now i feel great. Still trying to get Protein in which is a struggle. @@birdie bird Thank you! it is tough though. it still is. I go for my 3 week post op in one week and I still have trouble with the liquid. It definitely isn't easy. I hope you figured it out though! have you had your surgery yet? If not, good luck!!

    Hate to ask but!

6 days.. And boy was it painful. They suggested milk of magnesia. two doses over two days (about 2 tablespoons sipped each day) and if that didn't work try an enema. Definitely ask your doctor though.
  5. I feel the same exact way. I dont get in nearly enough Protein. I could go all day and then by late afternoon im like i havent had protein and may be able to muster two sips. I cannot deal with the protein. Not shakes. Not greek yogurt. But Water and Powerade zero im fine with. And ive been feeling the effects also. Super sleepy. Enhanced sense of smell

I have been smelling extra well also. Yesterday my sister had some salad and i smelled it from across the room. Salad is the number one thing i have been craving post op (im 10 days out) so i was thinking it could have been that i just wanted it but ive been smelling other stuff too. If my friend smokes a cig (away from me of course because i quit) and then gets near me, she STINKS soo bad. I think it's her brand because other people the smoke smell stinks but this brand has a distinct odor and it is strong. I have to roll down the Windows if shes in my car. Its repulsive. 9. Hey guys. 5 days post op surgery was 10/31. I am having major gas pains and having a hard time pushing to pass any gas. I have been walking and it helps burp sometimes but this morning i was up for several hours with intense belly pains. Pain medicine doesnt touch the gas pains. Do yall have any suggestions on what else i can do? My nurses in the hospital wouldnt let me have stool softeners. I have called my surgeon to see if they recommen it but no word back yet. Also, was anyone allowed to wear some sort of stomach band like a splint to hold the incisions while walking so its not kinda hanging. Any advice or recommendations are much appreciated! 5 days post op gas pains

Not even with milk of magnesia. And enema finally worked. Tmi i know. Lol post op tomorrow excited to see if I've lost anything more! Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App
  11. Today is day 1 of the pre-op liquid diet. I have had fears the past few weeks about my energy feeling very low. I have been drinking less and less caffeine and have successfully switched to decaf coffee and tea and sugar free products. However, now that I am nearly through day 1 I am not feeling the best. I know this is common but is there anything anyone can suggest to do to get my mind off the hunger and the urge to stress/boredom eat? Does this get any easier?! Surgery date is 10/31.
  12. Day 2 of my liquid diet and I ate a solid food. chicken nuggets to be exact. and I cried as soon as I was done and felt so much guilt I honestly didn't foresee coming (obviously I wasn't thinking). While I do believe I have learned my lesson, I am very afraid that I have just failed and ruined this for myself. I have 12 days left until surgery (October 31) and I am so hoping I did not just completely wreck the whole process. Earlier in the day is fine but then in the evenings, I get so hungry and the Protein shakes are not curbing that feeling. I am trying to bounce back by drinking Water. Has anyone else gone through this? I just feel so terrible, it's like I lost all motivation and will-power.

    So disappointed in myself.

You are lucky!! I would absolutely LOVE some broccoli right about now. I am 4 days away from surgery and it has gotten quite a bit easier the further I get in. I still have cravings though. Mainly for meat and vegetables. Thank you so much! I will pray for you as well!!

Well, that's a scary thought. lol. I plan on staying away from foods though until I am clear to avoid and complications or death. I should be transitioning to pureed foods sometime around thanksgiving so that will be great because I am sure I can get plenty of mashed potatoes as leftovers. I am very scared to test the limits so I don't think I will be.

    Best pre op powder mix

Muscle Milk is pretty tasty and fairly cheap. I add Soy milk to it for an extra 8g of protein since it isn't particularly the highest in protein.

liquid diet questionS- 5 days in.

I think the nearest Costco may be an hour away.. Which is also where my doctor's office is and where my surgery will be. Maybe I can look for one and be able to go the days I have appointments. That is a good idea about the blender bottle though. I have seen them at Wal-Mart and thought about getting one but didn't know if they worked well or what. I will definitely buy one this week. & yes I have been making sure I get my water and been doing decaf tea. I like the taste so i get a lot of liquid. Surgery in 6 days so from there, hopefully I still do well getting liquids.
  18. Hey guys! Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday. Couple quick questions that I'd like anyone's opinion on.. #1- I know there are premade shakes that you can buy at the store, however, I am a busy girl on a budget. I have been making Protein shakes from my Protein powder and soy milk each morning. I will make one drink it immediately and then right before work I will make another one for lunch and have it in the fridge until I am ready for it. Pre-made would be MUCH easier but with saving for being out of work for two weeks (silly me did not elect for short term disability this year) it just isn't doable right now. So, I was wondering if anyone went ahead and premade 5-6 cups or however much a blender would hold of the protein powder shakes and just stored them in the fridge until they were ready for them? I figured i could make a big batch ahead of time and then measure out as I'm going. Has anyone done this and was it easier? Also, the consistency. i wouldnt want it to get a weird consistency like sometimes shakes do. #2- (and this one might be a tmi) I am having a weird time going to the restroom. Did the liquid diet mess with anyone elses bowel movements? Other than that, day 5 is going good. I slipped on day 2 and then gave my debit card to a trusted source so I wouldnt be able to have easy access to cheat.. and once I did that it was smooth sailing. Today the hungry feeling has come back but i think it is all in my head because I got my card back (haha). I have ignored the feeling though and am excited at my will power. the guilt from day 2 was enough to not want that solid food anymore.

    Things done and Questions

I gave my HR dept a heads up. Didn't tell them before because I wanted to make sure I was actually going to have the surgery. They went ahead and started for FMLA but I haven't turned the paperwork in just yet. I also went ahead and printed emails and time cards for all the days I had to take off or come in late for appointments and gave them to my manager to let her know those previous days were used for doctor and those will be included for FMLA as well.Just keep everything documented for future reference. But you definitely SHOULD be filing FMLA.

liquid diet questionS- 5 days in.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was told that you can get constipated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yup. Pretty much what happened. I looked it up and it looked pretty common. Also, urinating much more frequently. Read something about the liver getting rid of the glycogen and releasing the Water stored, which made sense since I have lost close to 10 last I checked just in the week Ive been on the liquid.

I will try that brand. What I am doing currently is the muscle milk and I like it. I add soy milk to it since it only has 16 g of protein but once I add the Soy (8g) it goes up to 24.

    So disappointed in myself.

Thank you guys so much for the encouraging words. I am wanting to do so well and by the book that I let myself get really upset by this. During the psych evaluation process of all this the psychiatrist diagnosed me with panic disorder... So sometimes I do catch myself worrying extra hard, probably more than I truly should. Tomorrow will be a better day. Because I am going to make it that way. Also because I gave my debit card to a trusted person so I cannot spend anymore until necessary. lol @@gidgetgrl my plan does not allow me to have anything except Protein shakes, broth, SF Jello and popsicles, and condensed cream Soups with either Soy milk for protein or unflavored Protein powder. I am excited to lose more weight. I just need to get used to feeling this..... BLEH. lol Thank you all for the support. I am so grateful to have found this site.
