  3. Hey everyone! Hope everyone is having a very nice Halloween! So I'm having this issue and wondering if it's something I'm doing or my body is acting crazy. I'm just over three weeks post op, getting my Proteins in and most days getting Water in ( though for the past few days, I've been struggling at 55oz) I've been taking caltrate chewable with Vitamin d and flintstones complete chewable with no issue. Since Saturday however, immediately after taking them I become so nauseous and close to vomiting. Anyone else have this happen? Any suggestions on what I could do to prevent this? Thanks In advance! Has anyone tried Atkins shakes?

I had them during my preop stage, they are good though they only have 15g of Protein so that wasn't enough for after my surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

When and how to add in fiber

I'm almost three weeks out and started adding fiber via benefiber after an episode of really bad constipation during the first week. I will do my best to not have that experience again! I put benefiber in everything I make - eggs, whatever I purée, hot liquids and it works well. I don't put it in my shakes because it clumps up and I can't seem to prevent that. I have about 2-4 teaspoons a day which works out to 3-6 grams of fiber. It's been working well for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    f**king freezing

Oh lord! I was always cold before and was at the park Sunday freezing my butt off in 68° weather. I can only imagine how much colder I'll feel as more weight comes off, but that's a good problem to have I'll be saving all these suggestions for sure! Thanks for sharing! b m I

I wouldn't worry about the pounds lost, more about making a decision to be healthier. The weight loss depends on a multitude of factors. I am also diabetic and was just sleeved on 10/7, my bmi was in the low 50s day of surgery. Prior to surgery day, I did a 1000 calorie diet for 12 days (only required to do 10). And I lost 10 lbs during That time. On the low cal diet, I tried to incorporate shakes into some of my meals for a couple reasons 1. To get used to it and 2. To try different brands. I ate a lot of egg white veggie omelets, grilled chicken, low fat low salt turkey lunch meat, part skim mozzarella cheese sticks, lots of veggies and I made my own shakes with low fat Greek yogurt, ground flaxseed, and fruit. I also made spaghetti squash with 2-3 oz of grilled chicken, 1 tsp olive oil, spinach onions and tomatoes and topped with 1 tablespoon of Parmesan cheese. The main thing my nutritionist told me during those days was to make sure I was getting my Protein and Water and separating my eating and drinking by 30 minutes. I have lost 22 pounds since my surgery day. I have been taken off my high blood pressure and glipizide pills day of surgery and my insulin has been cut in half. I hope with continued hard work, I will eventually be able to be off my insulin completely. Best thing to do is to follow your nutrition plan pre and post surgery. When is your surgery day? Has anyone cheated ?

I was also allowed light yogurt, sugar free pudding and stained creamed Soups on my full liquids stage but I would ask your team to see if it's permitted on your plan. Good luck and stay strong! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Low energy days

I'm 17 days post op, taking all my Vitamins, drinking the required amount of Water and then some and getting all of my Protein in. Some days are great and I feel good and get a couple miles of walking in and tons of chores done but then the next day I'll crash, have no energy and barely able to get out of bed. Pureed stage

I've been on the puréed stage since Thursday. I've been eating soft scrambled eggs a lot. I also puréed a roast that I had made my family (1oz meat, 1oz potato and 1oz carrot). That lasted me three meals worth. Yesterday I made grilled chicken with trader joes harvest salsa and blended that to a purée. I mashed an avocado with some salt and pepper and put a tablespoon of that with it! I have four meals worth and probably will have lots of avocado leftover. Meat puréed looks gross but it smells and tastes delicious. (I had my mom and boyfriend taste each, and both liked it) And I was very scared of this stage pre-op (I'm very picky with textures and they used to make me gag) but after the liquids for 13 days, I was very much looking forward to something else! The Next puréed dishes on my agenda are the refried bean recipe and the ricotta bake on here somewhere as well as I have done butternut squash and apples that I will bake with some spices and purée with either pork or chicken. I mostly had cream of chicken which I strained and added some garlic powder and parsley to it. Tomato soup did not sit well with me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Cake or no cake? Cake substitution?

Happy early birthday! I had my surgery October 7, the day after was my 35th birthday. I get it. I'll be having a birthday celebration this weekend with family, cake free, and will probably put some pumpkin pie spice in my yogurt and call it a day. The surgery is my birthday gift to myself and I don't want to do anything to ruin it. I am looking at it as a tool to help me change my relationship with food and be healthy. Whatever you decide, I would suggest stay on your surgeon's recommended plan of what you can eat. If it'll be too tempting for you, I would ask to not even have a cake present. Maybe have a sugar free Jello or pudding as the dessert. Hopefully everyone in your circle will be supportive. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hunger pains

Well I can't speak for everyone and I am really early on in my post op journey. But I am feeling hungry nowhere near the amount of hunger before but my tummy is growling. I am taking that as a sign that it's healing well. I am still very glad I did this. Perhaps ask some of the veterans their experience. I know everyone's journey is different. Hunger pains

In the first few days after surgery It was a struggle for me to get all my fluids in and wasn't hungry at all. I only started feeling hungry again at the end of my 11th day. Yesterday was day 12 and the hardest day of the post op liquid diet. I was so sick of vanilla and chocolate flavored everything, I started putting some spices in my yogurt and Protein shake (cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice) which helped. Today my surgeon cleared me for the next phase. I never thought I'd be happy to eat puréed foods, but oh how I am! Just had 1/8 cup soft scrambled eggs, delicious! Surgery without telling anyone?

Hi! I'm new to this site/app and this is my first response! I didn't tell a lot of people (boyfriend, close family and friends) when I was making the decision and going through all the preop stuff. But I did tell everyone the day of my surgery what I was having and had all positive and supportive feedback! It was nice and surprising. The reason I did was because I am really heavy (bmi 55) and I knew as I started to lose weight, people would have questions. And I know that the surgery was the best decision for me and my health and in the end that's all that matters! it's totally a personal choice and you should do what's best for you! Every person is different and what's best for one may not be best for another. Good luck on your surgery! Hope everything goes well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
