Anyone Doing The C25k Program In The Warren Area?
nicksmommy posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I am trying to get back on the right track with my band again (banded in October 2008. Until recently, last time I saw my surgeon for a follow up/fill was March 2009). I went back for my first return visit in November, and am going back for my 3rd tomorrow. I am excited to already see what a difference it is making. I recently heard the expression "It's like having a fast car, but not being able to drive it because you haven't put any gas in it" and makes total sense in relation to not utilizing my band. Anyway.... I am trying very hard to get back on track and want to incorporate different exercise as well as changes in my diet. Has anyone in the area done the C25K program? I never have been a runner, but this program really intrigues me. Running a 5K would be an awesome and attainable goal!! I am also looking for a support group in the area if anyone has information on that also. Thanks! -

Hi Debbie! I am also in the same boat. I was banded in October 2008 and basically got caught up in this thing called life, and never really dedicated myself to starting my journey. I hadn't been to my surgeon since March 2009, but went back to him in November, and have another appointment scheduled for Wednesday. (both him and his staff are extremely supportive!!) I am disappointed in myself for not making the most of it to begin with, but am excited to start fresh again! Best of luck to you - you got this!!

Thanks Lori - I appreciate it! 8 months and you're down 73 lbs??? Good for you! That is great!! What do you do for exercise? I think I am going to give my body a week or so before I start - maybe treadmill or the bike at the YMCA to start ?? -

Hello vzghj3 and Lori :)Thanks for your responses and words of wisdom!! I'm still new at this lapband talk thing, and didn't even know that I had responses!! My surgery went well - it was at 8am on the 30th, and I was out of the hospital by 2pm on the 31st. I did take my son out trick or treating - part of the way anyway!! I was feeling up to it, and everything I read, said to WALK WALK WALK!! It must have done me good, cause I haven't had any problems with gas pains, or pain at all for that matter. I haven't even used any of my pain meds! :smile2: I was feeling a little sore and somewhat uncomfortable at times, but I'm sure that is to be expected!! I am so excited to begin this new journey! -
Hi Sil Have you contacted your insurance company to see what else they require, in addition to the 6 months? Mine required the stress test, EKG and a psych evaluation (that was an extra $200 out of pocket). Good luck on getting your surgery date soon! I just had mine on Thursday Oct 30 - so far so good!

19 lbs?!?! that is great!!!! good for you!!!! I'm having my surgery on Oct. 30th and am taking almost a week off of work. If I am feeling up to it, I may cancel a couple of the days and go back. I am starting my pre-op liquid diet tomorrow - wish me luck!!! -

Thanks Lori - I will!! I love this site!! Everyone is so nice and helpful! I have a surgery date of October 30. I am hoping that I am feeling ok for Halloween the next day! I'm not planning on doing anything major - just going to my sister in laws so my son can go trick or treating with my neices. I should be able to do that, right?? I am starting my liquid diet friday. Are there any driving restrictions after the surgery? Thanks! Donna -

:smile2: Until October 1, I had Cofinity PPOM insurance through my employer. With Cofinity, I needed to be on a 12 month program monitored by a doctor. We changed to BC/BS, which only require 6 months!!! This worked out BEAUTIFULLY considering I had reached my 6 months in September!! So now I have an October 30th surgery date!!!! I was so exited the day I found out, I cried!! I am having my surgery done at Beaumont by Dr. Krause. So far, I am extremely happy with him, his staff and everyone at the Weight Loss Center. -
Start time: 12:45pm 06-18-08.

Go Doug!!! That is great!! What do you think of Dr. Hawalsi?? I live in Sterling Heights, and had my consultation with Dr. Krause - Beaumont about a month ago. I waiting to hear back from my insurance company, so I will HOPEFULLY be setting a surgery date soon!!! Keep up the good work!!! Donna -
Stupid people and their stupid opinions

I too have only told a few close friends and family about my plan for surgery. But when it comes time to actually do it, I don't think there will be anyway to avoid telling the people I work with (A bunch of nosy, skinny women!!) I have almost all of my appts out of the way and am hoping to have a surgery date by the end of next month. I will have to take a sick leave, which will bring lots of questions from my co-workers, and I'm not quite sure how I can avoid telling them about it without lying to them. Any ideas ???? -
That is great - good for you!!! I have my medical evaluation followup and psych eval appts next week, I am hoping to have a surgery date for the beginning of May sometime. I get more nervous/excited everytime I get one of my appts out of the way!! Keep us posted with how the Optifast goes!

Any one have Dr. Krause or use Beaumont Hospital for their surgery??
nicksmommy replied to ccc0206's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I will!! Thank you! Did I read in one of your other posts that you swim at the Warren Community Center? If it is you, do they have alot of water aerobic classes offered? They have a really cool water park that I want to take my son to once I start losing weight, and can feel confortable in a bathing suit in public!! He will love it!! -

Why did you switch to Dr. Krause from Dr. Deol? I am going thru all of my pre-op appts, and will have my surgery done by Dr. Krause. -
Help - Surgeon says I need Gastric
nicksmommy replied to Hope4Joy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Jena!!! That makes me feel much better. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of the bi-pass at all. I suppose if we went back to eatting calorie dense foods and don't get some activity in our lives, it would come back with either procedure. I feel confident that the band is the best choice for me, and it will change my life for the better!! -

I am in the same boat you are. I had my mind made up that I was going to go for the lapband. But I went for my medical evaluation last week, and the Dr. told me that I too would be a better candidate for the gastric bypass. I am 5'6 and have about 120 lbs. to lose. He said that I would lose some with the band, but would be more successful in the long run with the bypass surgery. In the end, it is MY decision, and I do not feel comfortable at all with the idea of having the gastric bypass. I'm not looking for the lapband to be the "solution" to me getting thin, but as a tool to help me get there. I will hopefully lose a decent amount initially, making it easier for me to be physically active and can exercise more to lose more weight! -
Can you name 1, or 2 things you would love to do once you reach your goal?
nicksmommy replied to mstrina27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to be able to buy cute little t shirts to wear with jeans, instead of long ones....... I want to be able to take my 2 1/2yr old son to the waterpark and let him have fun, instead of saying "maybe next year" because I'm too self conscious to put on a bathing suit in front of everyone. I want to have my sex life back and feel comfortable in front of my husband naked!! I can't wait to get banded so I can start living life!!!!
