Those of you 5 months post op...
Redmaxx replied to AmandaWho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 5 months I would hope that you are back on regular food. Really you will be able to eat anything. But there are the things that you shouldn't eat and you should know what those are. Good luck to you. -
First Post Just got Surgery Date

Congratulations! Try to keep a positive attitude. It will get harder before it gets easier, but you can do this. -
Gastric bypass or sleeve? How did you choose? Anyone 5 years out of surgery?
Redmaxx replied to LoveLife4U's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the bypass and do not regret it. The RNY is better for long term weight loss if you are very heavy. I was not heavy but the RNY fixed GERD and diabetes (which I had). From what I have read on here (and other sites) is that those who get the sleeve are more apt to fall back into unhealthy eating habits and gain the weight back. It is harder (not impossible) for that to happen with a pouch. Just my $.02. Take it or leave it. -
I finally hit "Healthy" category on the BMI chart!

Looking good. Keep up the great work! -
WOW! You know what? I think you are right. It never occurred to me.
-
Yeah, you might be right.

Thanks. I have been in a great mood for months, now for some reason I just feel meh and people get on my nerves. Not really sure what is going on. Part of it maybe that I hate being the center of attention (abusive step monster made it so I had to fly below the radar).

Acid reflux problems after going off meds
Redmaxx replied to Meryline's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped taking my omeprazole and had to get into it with someone at the VA because they said I needed it. I told them to look at my records and that I had RNY surgery and that I was only taking it as needed anyways. When I finally talked to my primary she said no problem, you shouldn't need it. -
What is your favorite way to stay active on the rainy days?
Redmaxx replied to jesssa_belle's topic in Fitness & Exercise
For me, I go to the mall and walk. I really hate being cold (thanks WLS, LOL) so I just go to the mall so that I don't get cold and wet. -
What were you doing post-op?
Redmaxx replied to queenj23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was walking 2 to 3 times a day for at least 15 minutes at a time. You don't have to go fast but you need to keep moving. -
Sleep apnea — how soon till I can get rid of my machine?
Redmaxx replied to Arthur Dent's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just had my post op sleep study on 4 May 2017 (through the VA Hospital). Here it is almost 3 weeks later and I still do not have any results. I sent a secure message through My Healthy Vet (that is how you communicate with your doctor) and was told that he will contact me soon. My CPAP machine showed that my apnea events went from being mostly obstructive to being mostly central (that is why we did the sleep study) so I might need an AutoPAP machine. So for me (even though I have lost 100 pounds) it looks like I will be on the machine for life. -
Has anyone been denied by insurance even though they have Sleep Apnea?
Redmaxx replied to Suzannestylin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What type of sleep apnea? Obstructive or central? -
WOW! That is very nice.

I saw this on FB and thought that maybe some of the "newbies" might like a list of the WLS abbreviations that are used on this forum.

Constipation (I can't believe this is my topic!)

I was in the ER for impaction. Not fun. Good luck to you. -
OK, so I am very involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Michigan. On Saturday we attended a fundraiser and I had no less than 10 people pull me aside to talk about my weight loss. And all 10 of them told me, "Well you don't need to lose any more weight or you will look sickly." I thought that was pretty ballsy. Who are they to tell me that I don't need to lose any more weight? Maybe I should have gone to them to perform the RNY on me since they have apparently all been to medical school. Mind your own damn business people and just be happy for me to be healthier. Sorry, my rant is now over (it has been gnawing away at me since Saturday night). Please continue with your day.

Funny thing about all of this is that neither my dad nor the woman that gave birth to me were fair skinned. Must be the Hungarian blood. -

I have TONS of freckles. One time I went to visit my grandparents in Florida over spring break and got sunburned so bad that I had blisters on top of blisters. I will never know how I made it over in the sand box during the Strom without getting burned. -

I am pale, I need SPF50 just to go out into the sun. When I was a kid my hair was VERY light blonde. That with the blue eyes makes for a very sun burnt youth.
