Yes it is Federal Insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Plan). I have it but since I just had Bypass surgery in October I have not looked into it. From what I was told, they won't even consider that type of surgery until you are at least 2 years Post Op.

Hearing Aids and Gastric Bypass
Redmaxx replied to Redmaxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I have to go back to the VA as a walk in to the audiology clinic. I am still having the same issues. This is getting very frustrating. -

My surgeon told me that they use the weight I was at my initial consult. My initial consult was 31 August 2016 and my surgery was 20 October 2016.

Everyone is different. I had tons of energy. Just give yourself time to heal and your body time to adjust to the new you. Don't measure yourself against anyone else. You will be ok.

Trying to decide VSG vs RNY
Redmaxx replied to janieG's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
From what my surgeon told me it was a no brainer for the RNY. sleep apnea, hi BP, high cholesterol, GERD, and diabetes. From what I was told, RNY loses weight faster, and has a better success rate of keeping the weight off. I was told that sleeves have a 33% chance of gaining all the weight back. I am proud to be a kangaroo! -
Getting nervous due to all the comments I am hearing
Redmaxx replied to Buckfever53's topic in The Guys’ Room
I had never been put under for any type of surgery before my RNY. I just kept thinking that the results will be worth the risk (slight risk at that). I do regret my surgery, I regret that I didn't have it sooner. Also, I never told my parents I was having the surgery. I know how my parents are and it wasn't worth the hassle. So while I was recovering in the hospital my parents called my wife and she spilled the beans. The first thing out of my dad's mouth when talked to him was, "I never realized you were that big." I wasn't that big. My BMI was only 35, but with the GERD, Sleep Apnea, Hi BP, High Cholesterol and Diabetes I was more that qualified. -
Congratulations! I am planning my first 5K in April. Thanks for the inspiration.

Besides the resistance bands I have bought a couple of Xbox 360 Kinect games. The Kinect system uses you as the controller. So you jump, squat, move side to side, reach, etc. The gyms suck at this time of year because of all the people who decide they want to get in shape. It is hard to walk outside because of the cold/snow/rain and sometimes the malls are a pain. Try to do what you can. Exercise is very important.

What was your first overall feeling?
Redmaxx replied to ilgc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was in a great mood the day of surgery. After I woke up from the surgery I was fine. The pain was there but it wasn't anything that I couldn't take. I never used pain meds either in the hospital or when I got home. As a matter of fact I returned the script to my surgeon at my two week appointment. This was the first "real" surgery that I ever had. I just tried to keep positive and I knew that I was doing the right thing by having the surgery. -
Diet green tea helps? Interesting, I will have to try that.

Beaumont Oakwood Wayne Recommendation
Redmaxx replied to j2m1h's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When my wife had her heart attack 6 years ago we had the stint put in at Oakwood. It was run down looking (they were using the bathroom in her room as storage), the food was horrible and the staff was not very pleasant. I have heard that since Beaumont took over things have gotten much, much, much better. I had my RNY done at St. Mary Mercy in Livonia. -
Well, I am able to fit into my Desert Combat Uniform (DCU) that I wore 26 years ago during Operation Desert Storm (ODS).

Tell them you are a meth head. LOL Just kidding. I don't care who knows that I had surgery, however when people say that I have lost a lot of weight I respond with a simple Thank you.

I am not a FitBit fan. I have a Garmin VivoSmart HR and I love it.

How to talk to your doctor?
Redmaxx replied to colleenfrances's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your insurance may require a 6 moth medically supervised diet before approval. I know mine did, but thankfully I was in the VA MOVE program which is essentially a medically supervised weight loss program. I just had to have my PCP fill out the paperwork and submit it to the surgeons office. So, unfortunately you may have to play the game with the insurance company before you can have the surgery. I will be 13 weeks post op on Thursday and I must say that it is worth the hoops you have to jump through. Just think of it this way, this short term inconvenience will result in long term relief. Good luck and I hope to see you on the loser's bench. -
That looks like it is a little painful.
