Help I went in for my initial consultation and wanted the Gastric Sleeve the doctor suggested the Duodenal switch surgery
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to BigJohn58's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Initially I went in wanting the RNY.. I figured at my age and health issues that would be best for me but at the first appt with the surgeon we talked and he felt like th band would be a better option for me.. I wasn't entirely convinced, but told him if he felt that was the best way for me I trusted him to make that decision.. Fast forward to after I've had an GI & EGD.. Found out I had Barrett Esophagus Syndrome and H. Pylori infection.. He wasn't sure we could do the surgery till he did some asking around.. And now the RNY is the only choice because of the Gerd .. Definitely get a 2nd opinion.. Any doctor should be explaining WHY they feel 1 particular way is better than the other.. Munky -
I had basically my last appt today with my surgeon. At my last appt before today he told me he wanted me to start doing the 2 week pre surgery diet for 4 wks ..soooo I lost 12#s in 10 days!! WAHOOOO .. he was very happy and told me to continue what I'm doing .. basically all we're doing now is waiting to hear back from my insurance then I'll get a surgery date!!

I cheated on optifast diet
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to Benjamin Prez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
.. And stop cheating.. You're stronger than that.. I've been on a liquid +plus no/low carb veggies for 11 days and "cheated" once, with spaghetti squash, which turned out to not really be a cheat anyways LoL.. I'm a stubborn person.. I quit smoking cold turkey back in February to be able to have this surgery, so I told myself I can be just as stubborn with this 4 wk pre-surgery diet.. YOU GOT THIS! Munky -

Hi, I seen someone post about this book on another thread the other day and it's very informative and helps you really understand the changes you have to make and to be more aware of what's going on in your head and the life long changes that have to be made.. I agree with @@PorkChopExpress call your insurance and ask them how they do it because they are all so different. Even if you have the same insurance company as someone else.. Through different employers the plans have different rules Munky

I can't see what forum we're in (on my phone) but, if you got the band or possibly even the sleeve, are you possibly eating too much and/or too fast? Causing your pouch to fill and back up? Munky -

FunkyMunkyBrat replied to FunkyMunkyBrat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
LoL thanks.. I asked my doctor what happens if after 4 weeks we still don't have a date? I said cuz if I have to do this more than 4wks I'm going to kill you.. But I'm not straight liquid.. I get veggies ???? he laughed n said no your not.. I said I know.. This hasn't been that hard and honestly at first I was sticking to the 4 veggies they had on the list but today the nut told me I could have any of the low/no carb veggies I want, she said she sees I know what I'm doing.. He... Forbid it?! .. WoW .. Sorry, no, I can't help, my family is totally supportive.. I'm the type if you try to "forbid" me I'm damn sure going to do it now whether I really wanted to or not.. But I hope if this is something you really want and feel is necessary for your health that you can get it through his head Munky -
Spanx or abdominal bands?
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to sweetpea840's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The info from my surgery team says I'll be supplied one after surgery (the band thing not Spanx) I'm assuming you're talking about for after the surgery not for later when you have loose skin Munky -
Complication or coincidence?
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to Evenkeel's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Have any of them done the HIDA scan?? I had 1 single attack of feeling like a knife being stabbed into my right side stomach that the initial pain gradually decreased through the night(I worked nights) to a dull ache that the only way I can describe it is.. Felt like I had a super irritated pea in my belly that depending how I moved would cause me more pain.. They sonogrammed my gallbladder didn't see stones so my doc diagnosed m with IB.. After a year and no better and having learned about it being possible to have infection or sludge without stones showing up in sonogram I said I wanted a HIDA scan.. My GB was functioning at 20‰.. They took it out Munky -

WLS with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis of Unknown Origin
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to JenniferVSG2011's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was diagnosed with Fibro over 10yrs ago and had finally gotten to a point where it was manageable and I had fmla for when you had flares and needed time off work.. Then almost 4 yrs ago now in January of 2013 I got really sick with what I thought was the flu and went into what I thought was a flare.. Finally in July of that year after struggling trying to work using up all my vac time + fmla days because the pain was so horrible I went to a new doctor and ended up being diagnosed with Lymes.. And the developed Lyme induced arthritis.. So for you ladies that don't know what you have.. You might want to get tested for Lyme.. And a negative result doesn't always mean you don't have it.. I suggest you read up Good luck with everything!! Munky -
Has Anyone Been Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia Before Having WLS?
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to Serena89's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I haven't actually had the surgery yet so I can't give you an answer and on top of Fibro I have chronic Lymes.. But I know losing weight and talking stress off my body certainly can't hurt.. I'm just not expecting miracles as far as the other stuff goes but IF it helps I'll be thrilled! And also am so so sick of doctors acting like all my issues are will go away if I'm not fat Munky -

What do you miss or think you will miss about being obese?
FunkyMunkyBrat replied to 111's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't had surgery yet but what I will miss is.. Looking younger than I am.. Being fat keeps the wrinkles filled in.. Also my skin being filled out.. After it I'll be very loose and floppy.. Seriously though.. I think the "habits" more than food.. Down the road you can have pretty much anything you want as long as it's in moderation.. My sis had surgery over 10 yrs ago n she does Munky -
