A few days after I left the hospital. The weight will come off, just give it some time. The best thing to do is avoid the scale for the first few weeks or so. I was always encouraged to have water right next to me at any time of the day, especially when I was just starting out. I'm an Atheist but it doesn't bother me if anyone wants to pray for me or not. They believe what they believe and as do I. I just thank them, smile and be on my merry way. I always tell myself they're just doing a kind gesture or something. Just as I'd wish someone well or a speedy recovery. When it comes to religion, I mind my own. My surgeon actually tells me to drink G2. I flat out told them I drink regular Gatorade from time to time. Not fond of Powerade Zero or G2. However, I do love Vitamin Water. I drink that more than Gatorade but switched back to drinking flavored water after two months of drinking Kombucha. Good stuff right there, good stuff. A lot of people go with the sleeve for their own various reasons. To my own surprise. I thought I was only going to see 150 but my body surprised me. Motivation gets you places. I lost about 149 lbs altogether. The reasons why I chose bypass over the sleeve are because: 1. I loved the idea of losing weight faster 2. My surgeon recommended RNY because of my BMI. We were on the same page which made me happy, therefore I listened to her and glad I listened to her and my gut feeling. 3. I wanted to get the surgery to help with portion control. 4. I needed dumping syndrome to keep me in line with bad eating habits and it does. 5. Although some do and some don't, I have a history of Acid Reflux and getting the sleeve would have made that worse which only made me want bypass more. 6. Just wanted more bang for my buck. 7. Didn't want to risk getting a revision if the sleeve didn't work out for me in the end. Now a year post op and never regretted my decision once. I honestly don't have any experience with children but if the diet is involving your family, maybe involve healthy foods that you know the children will eat. Maybe make big casseroles in advance involving said healthy foods and portion them out. Instead of white bread, use whole wheat/whole grain. Instead of frying food, bake it. Get lean proteins. I'm pretty sure the surgeon or the nutritionist you may see there will give you tons of information and what to eat and what not to eat. Just take everything one step at a time. I personally dove in head first and just did everything the entire 5 months I went through the process. I did goof off a few times though, I will be honest. Despite having children, you got this. Well it's been almost three weeks since your surgery. So that infamous "3 week stall" was going to happen. People stall either at 3 weeks or a little before that. But the weight loss will start back up again. I know my stalls lasted a week each time and for me to break them, I either needed more of something like more protein or I needed more exercise. There are other ways to break stalls besides those options but you're in the very beginning stages and right now, it's not really advisable to try them. It's possible to keep it a secret. Many people do, just like many people are open with it. Like the previous person said, it is hard to keep it a secret because people WILL pry. I've had people ask me, "Do you have an ED?" "You look so thin... Do you even eat at all?" "What kind of surgery did you have to lose all of your weight?" And the list goes on and on... I usually just give most people a half truth and say I've just done a strict diet and exercise routine. Sometimes, depending on where you go, you won't even have to order appetizers. I order seafood like cod dishes and those are usually small. I just eat that and whatever I don't finish (which are usually the sides, I'll either take home or leave behind). If you have reflux, I wouldn't really risk getting the sleeve although some people have said to have had reflux, got the sleeve and then no longer had reflux after that so the results are different for everyone I suppose. Personally, I'm a private person and have tried to keep my surgery to myself but... Some people in this world have big mouths so whoever I did tell and trusted not to tell anyone else appeared to have had loose lips.... (I told people in my immediate family and word got out). Not a few days out without a lot of discomfort. A few weeks out, it got so much easier. I could sleep on my stomach and on either side. I'm a year out now and sleeping just feels like.... Normal. My surgeon calls me the "Disappearing lady" each time she sees me. I laugh about it. Because after that she tells me I look amazing. Then I get the people who say, "You don't look like you weigh 124 lbs, you look like you weigh 95 lbs." I never looked my weight, let alone my actual age but the way people react to me now versus when I was heavier is just downright fascinating. When people say I look great I thank them. I had one like that. Lasted for two weeks was extremely painful then it left for a week then came back for another 3 weeks. Spent a crap load of money on things I didn't want to spend it on.... I use the Calcium ones, the Hair, Skin and Nails, the Vitamin C with Zinc and vitamin D. I was using the Power C ones, that's kind of like the one the Zinc and vitamin D but it's only Vitamin C. Those all of the gummies I take. Other than Melatonin. I was told to get my protein from food sources but starting out I wasn't using any powders. I was drinking protein shakes. As for Vitamins, I went from taking some bariatric multivitamin that I checked out upon recommendation, Bariatric Fusion, I believe. They were okay at first but then the chalkiness just made it gross and I could taste the vitamins in the Vitamin. I bought a big bottle off Amazon. They were chewables. Now I switched to gummies. I love those way more. They're by Vitafusion, you can buy those at Walmart, Amazon and Rite Aid. Walmart is the best bet when it comes to value though. At least to me. I take my vitamins in either pill form, by shot or the gummies. Might want to start off with chewable vitamins and go from there since you'll be just starting out.
