  1. Well, I'm 18 months out and still have 14 pounds to go. I'll start by saying I have not been a perfect patient. I had surgery in Mexico and had little to no nutritional counseling. Life has been busy and stressful (three moves, a wedding, buying a house...). I got down to my lowest weight last September for my wedding. I don't like what I did to get there. Over-exercise, diuretics, etc. Ironically, I have a long history of abusing my body with exercise and starvation (here's some more of my story: https://www.virtuousprom.com/my-journey-with-bariatric-surgery/). I did ridiculous things in college to stay thin. I really would like to lose the last bit of weight for my own health (my BMI would finally be in the green!), but I don't want to starve or exhaust myself to get there. I haven't lost any weight in about five months, but I haven't really gained any either. I've been trying to exercise regularly, but when I do I'm hungry all the time. I'm at a bit of a loss how to move forward. 😥 Any advice would be great.

How Do You Tell Your Story?

Thanks, that's a really good piece of advice. I just saw so much profound pain in her eyes... it really broke my heart.
  3. This past week I measured a client for a custom wedding dress. Her BMI (I would guess) was well north of 45. I could tell she was extremely uncomfortable in her skin and I saw in her eyes the same anguish, frustration and pain I felt before I had my Gastric Sleeve. I so wanted to share my story with her. Having both battled anorexia and obesity, I firmly believe there is so much more to weight loss than calories consumed and burned. But there is so much emphasis in our culture on self-control and the concept that obesity is the result of a weak will. There's a lot of misinformation out there and even more shame. So I wanted to ask, what do you do in situations like this where sharing your journey could help someone but you don't know them well? Here's a link to my story, btw: http://www.virtuousprom.com/my-journey-with-bariatric-surgery/
  4. I recently wrote a blog post about my journey as a gastric sleeve patient and I wanted to share it with you all. My mother also had the same procedure done on the same day and I am 100% sure it saved her life. I had the surgery done when I was 29. I know that may seem like a young age to do it at, but after looking at the science of it all, it was definitely the right choice for me. Most of all, I'm thankful my mother did it. I know she's alive today because she did. Gastric sleeve may not be the right choice for everyone but it definitely was for my family. I don't think this will load pictures, so here's a link to my post: http://www.virtuousprom.com/my-journey-with-bariatric-surgery/
