Pre-op pudding allowed, using skim milk ok?
Bon Appetit posted a topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
My pre-op diet lists sugar free pudding. I bought some jello pudding mix. It calls for the addition of skim milk, but skim milk is not specifically liared on my diet. I assume it is ok as yoghurt and cottage ch÷ese are allowed. I'm going to try a recipe I found to make the cottage cheese more tasty- 2 c fat free cottage ch÷ese, 2 c skim milk, and a 6 serving box of fat free sugar free chocolate pudding in blender, then to fridge to set. -
Pre-op pudding allowed, using skim milk ok?
Bon Appetit replied to Bon Appetit's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
I have been making this every weekend for about a year and a half now. My husband asked me yesterday "Why dont you just buy the pudding packs?" I looked at the cottage cheese nutrition info and answered "13 g protein per serving difference". I make this in a blender. Mix the cottage cheese and milk first after spearing the cottage cheese film on the blender blade assembly top to minimize spray on the inside of the lid which helps with clean up. Then add dry powder mix. After removing the pudding from the blender with a spatula I make a smoothie in the "dirty" blender to help clean up. -

Looking for better calcium citrate option
Bon Appetit replied to 3boysmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm still taking some bariatric vitamins 4 months post op. I'll return to more regular vitamins as I run out. For calcium, pre-op I bought soft gels from Puritan Pride. They are large. I take two a day. Most of their pills I buy cost 3 - 5 cents a pill. I order in spring and fall to avoid their overheating in the weather otherwise. -
Did insurance cover complications from a surgery performed in Mexico?

Did insurance cover complications from a surgery performed in Mexico?

I was planning on getting a popular policy that covers for 5 day post op and includes some travel insurance but the company was not responsive when there was an issue at the very end of the online paperwork (everything had been in English except the last page for payment). I ended up not getting it and not needing it. Stateside, for a one month follow-up, I went to my PCP. My regular health insurance would not pay for that doctor visit. -
I want to try this. I have been on a grapefruit kick for about 2 years, toiletries mostly etc. I have been avoiding citrus foods recently but now at 3.5 months post op I may be ready for the acid.

My Doc allowed skinless chicken if necessary so I took advantage of that. I ate a small piece just before bed.

About 2 weeks post op I was worried about blockage or twisting etc and took Milk of Magnesia equivalent. It worked like a charm in a few hours. I started incorporating Benefiber into my shakes when my diet plan was less restrictive, about 4 weeks post op, but I probably should have started it earlier. -
I'm seven weeks post op. Raw tomatoes and raw carrots were tough about two weeks ago. I may try them again next week. I tried vinagarete tonite and it was too strong.

Are there foods that are dangerous for your new stomach? Not unhealthy I mean dangerous
Bon Appetit replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My doc said to avoid dried fibrous fruit like persimmons as they can form an obstruction. I suppose large pieces of celery might be bad also. But I have seen small dice celery allowed on my diet. -
Missing coffee, for now. I will probably abstain until my 6 month surgerversary. The water at work tastes worse, even with the filter I started using pre-op. It makes me gag. I bought some xtal lite yesterday to make it more palatable. Other tastes are the same, maybe diminished?

So, how much did you REALLY walk each day the first week?
Bon Appetit replied to HeatherS.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 30 minute walking routine pre-op that I think helped me recover. I had a nice surgery recovery and extra time on my hands in the hospital. Surgery Day/Day 0 I probably walked 10 minutes in 3 stints. Day 1 - Day 3 walked 30 minutes to an hour one or two times a day while in hospital. I ordered streaming Netflix for the month and with hospital wifi and earbuds helped the walking time fly. Day 3 hospital release I walked an additional hour of walking blocks shopping pharmacias, trying not to get sweaty which Doc had advised against. Day 4 was all day walking while sightseeing. Day 5 I walked all morning sightseeing in new shoes and developed blisters on my feet. Day 5 afternoon/evening we flew out and there was a lot of walking in the airports. Hubby handled all the luggage. Once I was back home I was back to regular routine of 30 minute walks on treadmill. It took about a week to get used to the treadmill inclines. I reintroduced 2 pound hand weights Week 3 and I'm still trying to get used to that. I'm Week 4 now. -

Gosh hope you are well enough to get out of hospital tomorrow! Is the infection related to your surgery? Did you have the plastic pipes for breathing exercise to strengthen your lungs after bariatric surgery? -
Healthy beverages besides water.

I'm 4 weeks post op and just tried a Fulfill powder similar to xtal lite with citric acid. It was not upsetting to sleeve. I Google it beforehand and could not find any info. Then I tried this forum. -
How did you handle changing clothing size ?
Bon Appetit replied to Elizabethtash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
-I shop my closet. - I bought 4 pairs of jeggings at Walmart before surgery that have belt loops. They were form fitting before, but still look ok 30 pounds out with a belt. - My sister recommended a certain brand of diaper pin for baggy clothes issues. It is called Nuby brand. She says they don't open up in the washer or dryer etc. They are almost $5 for 4 on Amazon. -
DO GASX STRIPS REALLY HELP GAS PAIN IMMEDIATELY AFTER SURGERY
Bon Appetit replied to pastbandedsleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I guess they gave me some meds. As soon as I complained about shoulder pain they fiddled with my iv and the pain was gone in minutes. As for Gas-X, the doc laughed when he saw mine and said all the americans bring that. I never used it because I was never poop chute gassy. In fact for my hysterectomy they made me stay in the hospital an extra day because I had not passed gas and until I did. Whis is weird bc normally I'm gassy. I think the Gas-X is for intestinal gas, methane, CH4. I think the shoulder pain is residual proppant gas, carbon dioxide, CO2. In most chemical reactions the chemistry is important so I guess it is here too, ie Gas- X is intended for CH4 only. -
Feb 2017 sleevers - how's everyone doing post-op?
Bon Appetit replied to biginjapan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, trying to restrict myself to 30 minute naps! The two hour ones screw up my day plans and nite sleeps. -
Crushing your pills
Bon Appetit replied to FLABOY50's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc advised any pill larger than a baby aspirin should be crushed from now on. -
I guess it is mind over matter. I'm not scared of needles even though I'm ”hard to stick”. I used to sell my plasma in college. I was surprised they gave me the contract to read and sign while I was waiting on the anesthesia. They were surprised I fell asleep reading it!

Self pay VSG in Mexico $5800 included ASMBS-certified surgeon and 4 nites in hospital. The International flights costed more and we're extra. The language barrier was more of an inconvenience and was only with nurses and orderlies. I wished I had brushed up on my Spanish beforehand. We used online translators on phone a lot. Get the nurse to speak in your phone or type it in etc.

Sensation of Insides Moving
Bon Appetit replied to hopekate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not feel my insides moving but I had a little nausea two days post op VSG from moving around. It would go away soon after laying down though. After my partial hysterectomy, with uterus gone and connective tissue cut, I could feel loose organs? moving around when I walked for a year.
