Bon Appetit replied to Pistolkisstal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story

Am I broken?
Bon Appetit replied to deflationinprogress's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stomach is longer than most and Doc said I will eat more than most. -
What Are You Packing To Take To The Hospital?
Bon Appetit replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The most helpful tips I got here were for extension cord, face wipes, privates wipes, chapstick, Listerine tape, slippers, loose gym shorts to wear under hospital gown. Least useful were gas-x. Post op I wish I had asked for a copy of the contract beforehand, and a list of the hospital amenities. I wish I had kept a log or diary. I can't remember the surgery day (after surgery like where I woke up.) It would have helped my recall for doctor review and family questions. -
Anyone know if it's safe to take Phentermine/duromine during the two week pre-op diet? The American surgeon I consulted with routinely prescribes Phentermine use up until three days pre surgery. My Mexican surgeon was Ok with it. I did fine with it. I ended up stopping it ten days pre surgery, as it, with the low carb diet, had significantly decreased my appetite. My appetite had been huge. Post-op I found out my stomach is extra long.

Starting to eat again
Bon Appetit replied to natarshassleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said acidity and dehydrating characteristics of coffee are issues. He said no coffee forever! I'm thinking the PH is more of an issue for the fresh wounds of the new stomach-it will cause nausea and who knows what else. I have a long stomach, I'm hoping I can try coffee 6 months post op and offset the dehydrating effects with a water chaser. Ask your doctor. -
Single incision gastric sleeve
Bon Appetit replied to courtneyquick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read the single incision is better BC less scarring, pain, chance of infection, etc but costs $1000 more. I'm not sure about the drain. -
Are you drinking coffee? The PH is low & adds to acid issue.

I like the see thru 16 oz and 24 oz containers you get with takeout soups from Thai and Vietnamese restaurants. You can buy them online from cooking supply folks, minimum 15? They stack well when full and empty, are dishwasher & microwave safe, and the lids are inter-changeable. The lids stack best in a corner.

Swollen foot & ankle
Bon Appetit replied to julia454's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a similar issue and docs were concerned was a circulation issue - had a sonogram with no answers. A year later it appeared to be from tetracycline-induced fatty liver disease. The swelling and some other issues were resolved after stopping tetracycline. -
My doctor says carbonation stretches the sleeve. I love a beer with Thai food. So sad. Will miss diet coke too

Change "After" picture?

Yeah I tried to update to post-op but could not figure it out. -
My nut said Celebrate Vitamins are the best. I have not bought any yet though.

I guess it just works on methane (intestinal gas).

I was allowed 4 oz of lean meat if necessary the first week and I took advantage of that so I could sleep thru the nite. The last thing I ate at nite, approx 8 pm. I was allowed FF sugar free pudding which has a lot of carbs, especially after adding FF milk so I exceeded my carb limit alot until I nixed the milk and started preparing the mix with cottage cheese and water. I never paid attention to carbs before so this was a great learning experience. I've always been old school/low fat. I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks and Doc said my blood work (60 mg/l sugar? not sure of the units but normally I have close to 100 sugars) and liver looked fine. But my stomach was one of the longest he has seen. Definitely the longest for a low BMI.

My doctor said GasX does not work on CO2 gas. I'm glad I did not open the box yet. Hello/Love Walmart.

Annoyed With Payroll
Bon Appetit replied to MeltsIntoWonder's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For a previous surgery with 6 weeks off, HR approved using up all my sick leave [4 weeks), one of the two weeks of vacation/personal leave, and the remaining one week came from a sick leave pool that former memployees can donate to upon their departure. I think that last week is the reason I had to file FMLA, draft a letter to boss, file updates, and get a doctor release to return. IF I had more time saved up I think I would not have had to file FMLA and had more privacy. I was grateful not getting my pay docked -
I used to eat cottage cheese mixed with canned fruit almost every day, switching between FF and low fat with ease. With new diet restrictions I recently bought 5 containers of cottage cheese on good sale. They only had FF left and it was not tasty without the hi carb fruit. Not wanting to toss it out I looked for a low carb recipe online. I found a pudding recipe that include powdered FF sugar free pudding mix and cottage cheese. This was great as my diet also includes FF sugar free pudding. FF milk one would normally prepare the pudding with has high carbs. I tweaked the recipe to eliminate the milk it called for and increased the cottage cheese. It tastes great. The blender breaks down the curds so don't see them. Then I started adding cottage cheese to my diet shakes, and processing it in a 16 oz single serve blender.

Returning to work after sleeve surgery
Bon Appetit replied to Apple1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was referring to more frequent urination due to increased liquids (60 oz Week 2). I would imagine one would have less BMs weeks 2&3? [emoji372] -

Pre-op advice please!
Bon Appetit replied to christinafin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are on aspirin regimen, stop it as it interferes with blood clotting and surgery. Your doctor may prescribe Phentermine pre-surgery to help control appetite (stop 2-21 days before surgery). You can mix non-flavoured protein powder with flavoured to adjust sweetness and control carbs. Yellow and green jelly (Jello) count as clear liquids on day before surgery -
I so disappointed! I spent $50.00 on unflavored isopure powder with the intention of mixing it with a chicken broth. It doesn't want to dissolve. The day before I bought a sampler pack of bone protein? and it dissolved fine. I guess I should have bought a big container of that but I went with Isopure (is whey protein not bone) since he didn't have any carbs at all. Does anybody know how to get this powder to dissolve in hot liquids? I've tried to stir it as soon as I put it in a liquid. I've tried mixing it in the single serve blender(watch out it expands in volume by 4). But it still has significant grit.

Not Tracking your food is a big mistake!
Bon Appetit replied to erica_ozzy73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I prefer to track on paper in a daily calendar book I carry in my purse. Using apps takes too long. -
Never mind I went to their website, where they admit there are minerals that don't dissolve.

I read that some Doctors don't require the pre-op diet for those with BMI less than 35. Just me with surgeon and got my date! March 13th it is! Pre-op class and anesthesiologist meeting March 3rd! No pre-op diet with this surgeon.
