  1. First off i love this post. And i totally get your concerns. I also love that you care enough about someone else’s feelings. To be honest, i would be that patient that lashes out at someone because obviously we already know we’re fat and don’t need to hear for the millionth time lol. I would say wait until an opportunity presents itself like if the patient has other co morbidies. Then you can casually share your experience with them. It’s a lot less intimidating for a lot of people if they know you went through their struggle too. I will say this though- still be prepared for people getting upset or plain ignorance. Because most people will still be slightly defensive. And you also have to remember that it is mental too. So for example, i have two very large best friends and all they do is complain about their weight. They know i had the sleeve and that i’m super tiny now, and im sure it makes them uncomfortable. But reality is, they are not mentally ready to make any sort of change. They still swear by excuses and drown their feelings in food. So that may also be the case for some of your patients. It’s different if they’re frustrated and genuinely trying to figure out how to keep the weight off. But if they’re still in a negative miserable frame of mind, there’s nothing you can do about that either. And pushing may only make things worse.
  2. Well sodas and stuff the answer is kind of obvious. But i drink sparkling flavored water all the time. Like several times per day (and regular water too), i’ve had no issues with it. I wouldn’t suggest it for other people though because everyone is different and some people experience pain with carbonation.
  3. I did phentermine before surgery. I loved it. It worked really well for me. However, when you stop taking it, you literally want to eat everything on planet earth in sight.

    Hospital bag

Literally nothing. Except maybe an ipad and chapstick. For most of us it’s literally just overnight and you’ll be butt naked lol, so you won’t need anything really. Your lips will be beyond dry hence the chapstick due to dehydration. And the ipad because you’ll be bored or sleeping or walking off gas pressure. View it as a nap, not packing for a vacation if that makes any sense. Good luck on your surgery- it’s right around the corner!!!
  5. It’s the same before and after surgery. I wouldn’t suggest it other than before bed though for obvious munchie reasons/ regain. If you can tolerate it before, you’ll be fine after
  6. It’s usually for reflux issues or it could also be that they still have not reached their goal weight or have regained. The reflux is totally out of their control, the other stuff is partially about being mentally prepared and consistent.

    Regrets???

I had it a year and a half ago. I have no regrets what so ever. I genuinely feel bad for anyone that has had any complications. But many of us don’t. There’s really nothing to be nervous about. They knock you out, take out half your tummy and wake you back up lol. Everything else is on you and as long as your consistent and accountable, you’ll be just fine. I have ocasional reflux but tbh i would rather deal with that then be fat forever. So i still wouldn’t change a thing. Good luck to you.

    Hey guys I’m new here

I had mine done on my 24th bday. Nothing to be nervous about. Good luck to you and enjoy the process of taking your life back.
  9. Overall i eat really really well, but i definitely had some caramel m&m’s a few days ago because i was craving chocolate and it was amazeballs. I’ll say this though so it’s clear. Live your life and don’t apologize or feel guilty about it. But at the same time cheats are for occasions, and they tend to work out better for people in the maintenance phase vs still losing phase. If you want to cheat do it, but own it and be accountable so you dont fall off the wagon. It’s easy to do. It’s your journey, have fun with it.
  10. @tealael oh i know, i addressed that already in a different post.
  11. In your case, what you spend on sodas and stuff will most likely be spent on water. I can totally understand your concerns given that you have to pay for it yourself. But the good outweighs everything. Worst case scenario, just wait a while to do the surgery to give yourself time to save up.
  12. Time for one of my honest opinions again...sorry. That’s crap. For me personally i didn’t save anything. I think people in general over think the surgery. I still spend money on food, just half of it ends up in the trash. If i go out to eat, the same thing happens. If anything i spend way more now because i’m a clothes horse. My rule initially was never buy anything that you don’t love even if it’s on sale. But the problem is i love everything and now that everything comes in my size so of course i’m going to buy it, i easily spend a ridiculous amount on clothes per month.
  13. @Frustr8 @Tealael This isn’t super new but i still look the same. As far as new updates to my story goes, i’m officially doing my first 10k this year. I’m training for that now in addition to weight lifting. I’ve never done anything athletic like that before.
  14. Does anyone from the dc metro area know of a surgeon that performs the duodenal switch? My friend is looking for one and can’t find one. T.i.a. 🤗

What is your favorite diet and why

I’m kind of in the same boat as you. I’ve tried keto and i do love that you get to eat bacon all day long but it’s not for me. My body doesn’t need all that extra fat and it also loves healthy variety so good carbs like beans and squash and lots of fruits are fine with me. i guess you could say i do the meditternean diet to an extent but i don’t like to view it as a diet. I eat what i want but i cook everything anf watch my portions, carbs and added sugars. I eat plenty of lean protein, fruits, seafood, veggies, almonds, beans, and lower fat dairy like fair life milk and lots of cheeses. I use things like grass fed butter, olive or coconut oil, but in moderation. I even do some meatless days. I love it because it’s not restrictive so i never feel deprived. My body physically feels the best when i do this, i have more energy, no extreme cravings, and it’s something i can stick too. Plus i feel lighter all the way around. I do add supplements like fish oil pills, and mct oil pills but that’s about it other than a multi. Best of luck to you.

    Snacks YES OR NO

Depends on the day. If im fine with 3 meals i'll do that. If im not really in a food mood, then snacks ocasionally are fine as long as their in my guidelines.

    Coffee after weight loss surgery?

I do coffee all the time mixed with protein in the mornings since im not always hungry and need breakfast. I hated the taste of cofee before that so the idea of decaf to me seems pointless.
  22. I did and i was fine. I was only in overnight and if i wasn't walking off gas pressure i was sleeping. You'll be fine
