Diabetics (cure or reduce?)
AnnaKarenina replied to Pat Pac's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There was an article in Diabetes Forecast Magazine earlier this year and it did say that Gastric Bypass was the one that reduced blood sugar levels quickest but that all of the surgeries will reduce blood sugar levels as they reduce your weight. I am not sure why, my doctor also said the same. He suggested bypass for based on my diabetes and also GERD but the decision to have bypass was mine. -

Waiting game.
AnnaKarenina replied to sleepingbeauty30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had mine last Friday. They gave me something in an IV. I remember the Dr coming in the room and asking me how I was today and then I woke up in recovery. I have all of my tests done and they are submitting to my insurance at the end of the week and then I have to wait up to 30 days for Blue Cross. The waiting sucks. -

Diabetes & High Blood Glucose Levels
AnnaKarenina replied to Angie's_Ocean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your blood sugar is skyrocketing, call your doctor and let them know it isn't working for you. My doc and I have been adjusting and adding, trying to help me get there. I have a similar story. I've been Type 2 since 2004. I changed doctors a year ago because the doctor I had didn't seem overly concerned that my A1C had climbed to 11 and nothing was bringing it down, even when I ate really low carb, walked everyday, took my medicine. My new doctor was on board with the surgery when I went to her last August, I did my 6 month diet that my insurance requires and I had hoped that I could have surgery in the spring but my A1C had only come down to 9 and the surgeon said that was not good enough. I am not on insulin but I am taking 5 oral medications, and we keep tweaking the dosages and times I take them. I started taking Jardiance last month which is a newer med and costly $180 per month with insurance but it seems to be working. My fastings are down to 120, as long as I watch what I eat it doesn't go much higher. I test like crazy and feel like I'm obsessed with my blood sugar. I don't have labs again until September, but I am hopeful to have better results. If not I don't know where to go, my 6 month diet was Sept thru Feb and my psych visit was last November so my insurance may make me repeat all of that. I have been so frustrated too, it seems like I'm working so hard and not getting there. I've seen so many people have their surgery already and I'm still waiting. -

Where do you find the Centrum chewables? I've been starting to look at my local stores, I couldn't find any chewables. I can find the calcium chews and B12 easily. My Dr doesn't recommend any brand but they said no gummies and no flintstones due to sugar content.

Mine was today.. 10-15 min filling out paperwork, standard medical stuff, I had to bring a complete list of all medications including Vitamins and supplements that I am taking. I met with the psychiatrist for about 15 min. She asked about my weight history, when did I start gaining weight, what types of things had I tried to loose weight. Why do I want surgery. I live alone so she asked who would help me after the surgery. I told her I would stay with my parents if need be after surgery (the live about 15 min away) and that I had already spoken to my neighbor about helping me take care of my 2 cats because I was worried about being able to bend over to feed them.

I have mine on Tuesday afternoon so I'll let you know. I don't think mine is going to be as extensive as what the other two were saying. When I made the appointment I asked how long I should expect to be there so I would know if I should take the day off work and she said it's usually 45 min and 1/2 hour with the doctor I took 1/2 day off anyway.

180 Days Weight Loss Trial & Protein Shake Question
AnnaKarenina replied to paradise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance didn't require a dietician, but the surgeon required 2 classes. It was all about the pre op diet, post op diet and Vitamins that are required. My 2nd class isn't until Dec 20. We are submitting to my insurance in late Jan/early Feb. My local hospital is in network for me thank goodness. I work with 3 people who have the same surgery in the last 2 years, all of them have done really well. -
180 Days Weight Loss Trial & Protein Shake Question
AnnaKarenina replied to paradise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS of Alabama as well and live in Florida. I am in my 4th month of my 6 month supervised diet. I have tried and like the Premier shakes, I also like the Adkins brand ones. I ordered the sample starter pack from unjury website but I haven't tried them yet. They just came yesterday but they were highly recommended by the dietitian I met with last Monday. -

FMLA and Short-term disability

My surgeon said he would write me out as long as I wanted! But he said he expected me to need 3 weeks. I have a desk job. -
I've owned 3 different fitbits and I love them. I can tell you my sister has a gearfit and she really likes hers and it does everything that mine does. I think the brands are all very similar these days.

I love mine, I even use it for an alarm, it vibrates to wake me up. During the day, if I have less than 250 steps in an hour, it will vibrate to remind me to move. I work in an office and sometimes I do forget. My goal is 10,000 a day. I bought my Alta at Target. It was $129.00 and it's blue.

Which appointments should I get done first?
AnnaKarenina replied to erica2185's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing my 6 month doctor supervised diet now with my primary care doctor and I'm going to do a bariatric nutrition class as soon as they schedule me because my insurance doesn't cover it and it is only $50.00. I'm scheduling my psych, endoscopy and gall bladder ultrasounds for January 2017 so it will go towards my deductible and out of pocket. Something you may want to consider if you are using insurance. January is month 6 for me also, so we can submit everything for approval in February. -
Looking for people who are likely to get surgery in Spring 2017!
AnnaKarenina replied to boogie_badd8nt_she's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on month 3 of my 6 month diet. I think it will be April or May for me but I'm not sure. Depends on the insurance and if I can get my blood sugar down enough for my labs in 3 months. I'm working really hard on getting it done.
