Sleeve scheduled for 10/19- would you do it again?
dianemar replied to jaylee9146's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'M 9 weeks out, was a little rocky at first, with blood pressure issues, but having energy, and not wasting time eating and contributing to the problem is great. One funny fact for me was when I had the surgery and I got up and walked, I remember thinking, I am still fat!!! Part of my brain was so geared for weight loss, I almost believed having the surgery would result in me waking up thin. lololol, but it does come off. I am 61 and am glad I did this, it will add years to my life!! -
I had to see a psychologist before surgery and we had some good discussions about family and their input and ideas about how supportive they would be. I would be in contact with a support group and not depend too much on your partners support. Do what you have to do to be healthy and move forwards.

i HAVE 6, ONE ABOUT AN INCH, THE OTHER FIVE LOOK LIKE STAB WOUNDS. HE FIXED A HERNIA WHEN HE WAS IN THERE, SO THAT I PROBABLY WHY SIX. REALLY NO LASTING PAIN FROM THE INCISIONS, GAS WAS WORSE, JUST SO GLAD TO BE ABLE TO sleep ON MY SIDE AFTER A WEEK OR TWO, MAYBE THREE. I AM ALMOST 9 WEEKS POST OP, SEEMS SO LONG AGO NOW. YOU WILL HAVE SO MUCH TO THINK ABOUT AND LOOKING FORWARD TO , THE TIME WILL FLY.

Had permission to eat a few meals at my moms memorial, a week before surgery. I had duck, escargot, lobster ravioli,(to die for), and was very happy, as I found out at the last minute when my surgery was and had no opportunity for a last meal. I had cut carbs a few months before surgery, had lost 24 lbs, so I didn't waste t hat opportunity to eat carbs at all.

after surgery I was still on my diaretics for BP, also lasex, which DR did tell me not to continue taking, however my daughter had a miscarriage the day before the surgery, and I totally forgot what he told me. My daughter, a nurse, was supposed to be with me in the hospital to have another presence to listen to instructions, but she was having a dnc, while I was in surgery, and I was thinking more of her than me. ended up in hospital, peeing out more than taking in, with keytones at 2.1, stayed overnight. they took me off all bp meds then my bp started rocketing, and legs swelled up, so it put me a few weeks behind till it all got straightened out. All good now, losing weight consistently. Lesson learned about going to dr, should not have piddled around for so long.

Before surgery diet ..
dianemar replied to smiley1968's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having liquids only before surgery is essential to shrinking your organs and is only for your good. I was on liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery with only Protein shakes (slim fast, 3) a day. We did have a memorial gathering for my mom about a week before surgery where I had permission to have a few meals, as we were all out of state and would not be getting back together for a few years at least. My dr said, I still looked great, organs at least. I would be nervous to deviate from what the dr says is best for you. -

I struggle getting my Water in, it tastes terrible to me, and with working I tend to not pay attention of the need to drink, then break comes and then I have to eat, then I forget to drink after a 1/2 hour. on and on..... -
Newbie questions sleeved 10/12
dianemar replied to BeYouTiful617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the little squirty things I get at walmart, they are sugar free, and some have electrolytes, and I control how much I put in my Water. Prepared drinks are just too sweet, it makes me sick to my stomach. I still struggle getting my liquids in, I work, so I forget to drink , as I get busy ,then break comes and I have to eat, so I feel I am constantly behind. -
7 weeks post op - success and struggles
dianemar replied to Jaime_Boston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I am 8 weeks post op, just starting real food this week. I found that sharp cheddar cheese triggered a dump reaction, totally unexpected, so I will continue with cheese stix. Very cautious at this point, mushrooms and onions with my scrambled eggs with sautéed spinach does well as does any fish, chicken as long as it is chewed well. Made an apple crisp for church potluck today and I had a piece of apple and it went down well. Also had some pulled chicken and that was good too, as well as the kale/ sausage cream Soup. My biggest issue is getting down the liquids, having to stop an hour before eating and then waiting a 1/2 hr before drinking after eating gets complicated. I am at work and get busy and forget to drink, then low and behold break time comes and I have to eat, then wait, then I forget, and on and on it goes. -
Yes, baby food is a godsend at that stage, that and greek yogurt. Anything to be off liquids is wonderful!!! Good luck 8 weeks post op.
