  1. I had just started eating whole foods again and was in a hurry to get to work and ate chicken and cheese way too fast and did not take the time to chew completely. Boy , not only had to call off four hours of work, but was in distress until I threw everything up. Lesson learned. Old habits creep up on you as well as old mindsets. I had been feeling really good, and followed all the rules and my brain started thinking that I was as good as before. WRONG. Anthony thank your for sharing and your light hearted attempt to minimize the dangerous situation you COULD have been in. but was not. What I got from your post is that it was not worth it. Lesson learned . Thank you.

    Slow Weight Loss

Thank you for asking this question, I just came on to ask it myself. I have been stuck at 250 for quite a few weeks, I also am doing strength training as well as some treadmill and walking. I am probably developing muscles which will add to the weight ratio, so maybe that is why the no weight loss in both of us. It does feel so good to move and that does compensate the frustration of not losing how I would like.

    Is anyone getting married ladies

I got married one month after surgery, we have been together 37 years, but I had a lot of fears about what constituted a Christian marriage, and what I grew up around in the 50's /60's was not what I could take a vow for. I had lost around 30 lbs by my wedding, my dress fit well, and just to let you know it was great!! a new promise for the future to go with a new promise of me.
  4. It is hard to express the changes that has happened since my surgery, first, to be able to move so much more freely and pain free as well. Second, not to be driven by insane hunger. Third, to see light at the end of the tunnel, knowing the weight will come off as I go forwards step by step. Forth, knowing with each pound I lose, I add to my life expectancy, being more interactive with my children, grandchildren, and they will have memories of me doing things with them, not sitting on the sidelines. I commend your for facing your anxieties, that courage you already have will propel you towards these new challenges and you will succeed with flying colors.
  5. I had to go from liquids to blended to soft foods. took 6 weeks till soft foods. I had poached eggs, I was craving them so much. I had them on sautéed spinach, onions and mushrooms, cooked till very soft, it was sooooo goooood. I'm 9 weeks post op now, well in to 'normal' foods. I had a problem today, when in a hurry getting things done preparing for work, I ate my lunch way too fast and filled up way too much, ended up calling off 4 hours because I felt soo sick, and ended up throwing everything up. Lesson learned. I generally feel so good that I tend to question my new habits, but I learned a good lesson today.

    Surgery went well

If you are like me, and suffer from joint pain, back pain, and a myriad of different ailments, gas pain is very temporary, I used gasex strips that melt on your tongue for great relief, I bought two boxes, and only used about half of one. perspective!!
  7. you're on the Fast track now!!! Good luck, keep us informed!!

    Surgery

I do not remember that I did, but I did have an esophagus hernia that was fixed during the surgery. That probably caused a lot of my heartburn issues. And fixed them as well. Good luck. A new beginning for you , your life, and your family!!

    liquids.

So, does using a smoothie count as liquids? I use one scoop of powder, 8 oz of skim milk, one cup of ice and a few table spoons of greek yogurt. How should I tabulate the liquids for this, I am always under and hoping using smoothie will help.

    liquids.

I add about 1-2 cups of ice, so may add 8oz of Water in addition.
  11. Mostly everyone has been supportive, I had one gal at work, out of genuine concern for me, did question the 'easy' way to surgery, but after she saw me after I came back to work, saw how easier I moved, how better and healthy I looked, has become one of my best advocates. All in all, it is nice to have support, but I had already set my mind on what I wanted to achieve, so peoples opinions did not matter, except for my husband. And he is great!
  12. well there you go, no worries , I wish my dr thought that way, but the discipline of those liquid diet weeks helped prepare me for what was to come.
  13. I was thin growing up, so when I hit 37, had my last child, quit smoking, had early menopause, and my weight sky rocketed, I was in no way prepared. I always had the mentality that I could eat what I wanted, when I wanted so the idea of diets were so out of my realm, I just couldn't comprehend how to deal with it.  Along with a family who primarily judged others on looks, I felt like such a failure and wanted to hide.  I always had a bit of distain for those who took the easy way out by having surgery for weight loss, taking the easy way out , right.  Then last winter, as I was battling another bronchial issue, I realized it would not take much to push me into pneumonia and could conceivably lose my life, made me wake up and decide I wanted to live a good number of years, and really 'live'. So here I am 9 weeks post op, feeling better than I have in years, already doing more than I have in years, Having better and more frequent sex than I have in years, not regretting the surgery, but kicking my self for waiting, yes.  Except my insurance only started covering it this year.  There are so many positives that when I grumble about the change in eating, I give myself a swift kick.

  15. Wow, lucky you. The point of pre op liquid diet is for your organs to shrink so the surgeon has more room to menuver during surgery. I would ask again why it would not be needed or advised. I personally would want to do anything to minimize any issues.

    Protein

Great Ideas!! thank you for sharing! I also put a few tablespoons of peanut powder(jiff) it adds about 9 g of Protein to my smoothie, so 20 g for smoothie powder, 8g for milk and 9 for peanut powder gives me 37 g of protein by the end of morning. plus smoothie counts as liquid as well. Almost half way there

    Partners Jealousy

@GACaldwell Do look up bariatric support groups in your area, that may be an option.
  19. yes, aug 17th, 9 weeks out. I still remember all the fears and questions. I'm here if you need me.
  20. I guess the excuse of my weight' to have my family be at my beck and call, so sorry, but that was the mess I was in. I was so heavy and had sprained a foot and broke a toe in the last year, they got used to waiting on me hand and foot. After I got through the worse of the surgery I told them they needed to let me do the things I could. I am a bit ashamed at how much I took advantage of the situation.

    Help!

yes, I agree, use what support you can, I remember when on liquids after surgery, could not wait until blended foods, then I could not wait until soft foods, then I could not wait till 'real' food. But the discipline you learn at each stage prepares you for the next. And as the weight comes off , your excitement at what is possible starts soaring. You will have plateaus, you will get sick of the schedule of Water, wait an hour, food, wait an 1/2 hour to drink. tracking Proteins etc. But as your joints stop hurting, the scale goes down, you can do more. It will feel so much better, not to mention, decreasing you meds. YOU don't mention how old you are, if you are young, I think food may be such a social binder that you may need help navigating the issues. You can socialize without eating so much. Plus your life will have so much more to do and enjoy.
  22. Is there a benefit to having the sleeve? I had heard weight loss on the roux and y was so fast and the sleeve, taking a little longer, helps the body adjust better, making the skin adjustment smoother.???
