I found Bariatric Pal when I returned to work 6 weeks after surgery and was craving some companionship and sanity living this new lifestyle. I am 61,grew up thin and never thought about dieting. With four children I was busy enough to bounce back from childbirth. My last child was when I was 37 and I quit smoking after I had him and all my bad habits came to roost. I thought eating whole wheat foods was healthy and never limited myself or understood my own particular body's needs. We have a long history of diabetes in my family, though I had never had it except in one of my pregnancies. so I suffered being over weight and eventually morbidly obese till this last winter when a bronchial issue forced me to realize this condition could cost me my life. I always felt surgery was the easy way out, but was unable to really come to grips with making significant progress. I was at 333 in February of 2016, as part of the program I saw a nutritionist, psychologist, and a battery of Dr's. The nutritionist got through to me about being insulin resistant, and my body did not handle sugars or carbs well, I cut carbs in june and lost 24 lbs in two months and by surgery date, was down to 294. After a few bumps in the road after surgery , I am now down to 249. My surgery was aug 17th, 2016 and I am moving so much better and have such a more positive outlook. I think I lose slower, due to my age, but am very optimistic that within a year I will be a very new person!!
