Anyone else fear gaining the weight back.
Phinley replied to ctdan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah but it's an easily resolved problem. I weigh myself every week and if I'm more than 5lb either side of my GW I adjust my intake accordingly. Takes a couple weeks to get back to normal. Just gotta catch it quick or it can snowball. -
Think I get about half my calories from them.

Protein shakes
Phinley replied to craven.jennah09's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just grab a big tub of whatever whey isolate has the best calorie:protein ratio in the store. Way cheaper than ready made shakes. -
For those who self-paid how much was your surgery?
Phinley replied to DRoseman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
$10,000 on the dot. Got it done in Kuwait though. -
Dense Protein Idea----Salmon or Tuna Packets
Phinley replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Salmon's fine. It isn't high up enough on the food chain for mercury to become a problem. -
Dense Protein Idea----Salmon or Tuna Packets
Phinley replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Easy on the tuna there, guy. Mercury poisoning isn't fun. Thought I'd found the Holy Grail when I started reading nutritional info on my food and saw tuna was almost pure protein. Really took the wind out of my sails when I checked online to see how bad the mercury issue was these days. -
Slower, yes but not necessarily "less". Fat costs energy to maintain so as you lose weight, your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) goes down. I started out with something like a 2,800 calorie TDEE but now I'm down to 2,000. Went from losing 5lb a week to 1lb in the final stretch.

Sure. My only before pic is a crappy selfie though thanks to a chronic aversion to cameras.

I self-paid so I didn't have to wait for insurance or anything. One month from my first consultation to getting slashed up.

Re: When Did Weighloss Being to Slow Down
Phinley replied to PrettynSpirit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It stops when you consume enough calories to match your TDEE. That didn't come naturally for me. Left to my own devices, I'll under eat by like a thousand calories and would have kept losing until there was nothing left. I set alarms to remind me to eat now and keep a stash of high calorie bulking bars to get my numbers up. -
I consumed fewer calories than I burned. Find your TDEE with an online calculator and eat less than that number. https://tdeecalculator.net

I always buy gifts for the nurses when I'm in hospital. Fancy chocolates, couple cases of doughnuts. Stuff like that. It's not much but I like to let them know I appreciate the work they do.

Are solid foods more satisfying?
Phinley replied to Michelle_Lynn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The wonders of the pyloric valve. Liquids and mushy foods like processed carbs are dumped to the small intestine very quickly while dense protein like beef and chicken will sit in your stomach being digested for much longer, leaving you feeling full. -
Anyone vape here?
Phinley replied to Lordofthepugs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like a steam engine. I switched to 0mg juice for a couple months after surgery because nicotine can mess with healing but I went back up to 3mg after that and my doc didn't mind. -
Water and food weight can cause weird fluctuations in either direction. If your calorie counts are solid, then it's not fat gain. Stay hydrated and lay off the salt. It'll pass soon.
-
I gotta suck down 2,100 calories a day to maintain so yeah, I'll order something on occasion. Had half a burrito from Taco Bell last night and brought the other half in to work for lunch.
-
A week and a half is a perfectly normal stall. Water weight can hide fat loss for a few weeks at a time on the outside. Drink plenty water and lay off the salt to help clear it.
-
It does exist but not in the way most people understand it. It comes into play when your body fat % is so low that your organs start shutting down to conserve energy. You don't go into "starvation mode" until you're actually starving. Missing a few meals or running a severe deficit while you still have plenty fat reserves won't magically conjure body mass out of the ether.
-
Check out vaping, man. You're not that deep into nicotine so nicotine free liquid would satisfy the cravings and is delicious. If you're interested, I can shoot you some hardware and liquid recommendations for starting out.

Can’t break this stall to save my life.
Phinley replied to AmandaWho's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2-3 months isn't a stall, it's eating maintenance. Count calories for a week using MyFitnessPal. Everything that passes your lips gets logged including liquids. Use the calculator here (https://tdeecalculator.net) to find your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) and if your calories consumed are within a hundred of your TDEE, you're eating too much. -
Eat more. You're not gonna gain weight at a calorie deficit. Check out bulking shakes, they're easy calories and I use them when I don't hit my goal for the day but don't feel like eating.
-
Are... are they shakes meant for bodybuilders on a bulk? There's no way you'd gain 20 pounds on that diet, the calories are sneaking in somewhere. Make a MyFitnessPal account and log everything that passes your lips for a week. Your sedentary daily energy expenditure with your listed stats is 2,200 calories. Eat less than that and you'll start losing again.
-
It's food and water weight. You're straight up adding mass to your body with food and holding onto a bit more water to help digest it. Nothing to worry about.

Two month out ..... I'm very down !!!!
Phinley replied to Dolcy1182's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Count your calories for a week to make sure you're eating under your TDEE. If that's not the problem then it's just a stall. Stay hydrated and lay off the salt to help clear it. -
Drinking protein "shots"?
Phinley replied to coyote's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll sometimes mix a scoop of protein powder in with just enough water to form a paste when I need to top up my numbers but just don't feel like eating. Nothing beats 25 grams of protein for 2 tablespoons worth of effort.
