TONIGHT! Alex Brecher of BariatricPal on our Radio Show!
Melissa Spring Dykstra replied to Diva Taunia's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There is so much information out there about VSG. The problem is though that there is so much you need to know, that you might not even know that you don't know what you don't know. So my question is what questions are the common ones that people should ask but don't about VSG with teammx or just VSG in general. And of course what are the answers to those questions. Thanks! Financing
Melissa Spring Dykstra replied to occitigsr's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Here is what I did. My car was paid off so I used the equity in it to get a cash out refi on in through my credit union. I'm getting a loan for $5,500 (The surgery is only $4,400 with Dr. Jalil Illan, but I wanted a large cushion for airfare and extra hotel nights) for four years at 2.72% with a payment of about $121 a month. The rate would have been 2.47 if my husbands work did direct deposit, but they don't . Still, I'll only be paying about $300 in interest if I take the full four years to pay for it. And there are no fees at all with the loan. Gotta love credit unions! I figure that I can break even with taking the payment out of my food budget because of how much less I'll be eating. I already spend more money on groceries buying whole clean foods (plus some Protein powders), so there won't be any change what I buy for groceries, just how much I buy. So.................. If you are looking for a way to finance your surgery... Banks (at least north coast credit union) will cash out up to 100% of a cars value with a refi. So like if it is worth $8,000 and you owe $2000 you can get $6,000 cash out of your car. I guess people get cash out of their cars all the time. I never knew it was a thing until I asked my bank about it. We had used the bank to buy from a private party when we got my suv and because we were financing less than the retail value of the car we were able to get a little extra cash at the time to have money for new tires and to fix the window. That is where I got the idea. FYI, my bank used NADDA retail value for it's valuation. -
Anyone having surgery in Mexico around November 19th?
Melissa Spring Dykstra replied to mrsyummy's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm currently scheduled for November 19th too!!! I'll be at a different hospital though. I'm going through teamMX.bariatricpal.com with Dr. Jalil Illan at the Oasis Hospital though. I might have to change the date though if my husband can't get the time off of work. I chose that date because that way my husband only has to take 4 days off of work because of the holiday 4 day weekend. I'll be flying in the 18th and flying out on the 25th. The cheap days for me to fly out of our little airport are Fridays and Mondays. So even paying for two extra days in the hotel is cheaper with the airfare. Also, they only do nonstop on Friday's and some Mondays. Sorry, I'm rambling. I wanted to use oasis hospital because it has a completely remodeled bariatric wing. It is really pretty with everything nice and new in the pics. My neighbor up the road used Mi hospital though and had a really nice experience though with Dr. Curiel. She said that although the hospital was older, everything was kept nice and clean. I think that we paid the same, $4,400. She is really happy with here sleeve and lost like 30 pounds within a month! I'll be at the Holiday Inn, she stayed at the Grand I think. I hope that I don't sound like a commercial lol! I'm so excited to get my surgery. And nervous, and excited, and nervous... Know what I mean?
