  1. It's not fun at all, but it does feel pretty good to vent some. I talk about stuff on here that I would NEVER discuss with my family/friends, lol.

Thank for the info Libra! I'll keep that in mind. I guess it's like anything else, trial and error. (Sorry if I hijacked the thread...)

    Sleep Study Question

My tech told me they aren't allowed to tell you if you have sleep apena...but, when she came into the room to throw a CPAP mask on me I kinda figured it out, lol. I was unable to sleep at all with the mask on, so they sent me home. I'm currently "trying" to use one at home to get used to it before I go in for a second study. The guy at the CPAP place said my apnea was the worst he'd ever seen in 15 years....I had an "event" of sleep apena 288 times an hour, (worse he'd seen was 177 times). However, my oxygen absorption (I think that's what it's called) never dropped below 95%, explain that? Maybe I'm an alien. Anyway, I think it's pretty standard procedure for the doctor to confirm the results of the test. My doctor looked mine over and asked me if I was willing to try and use a CPAP at least until I lost some weight. I agreed, but I'm having a really hard time with it at the moment.

    Hi

Welcome Sherry. I'm working on getting insurance approval for the Lap Band. There is a TON of wonderful information available on these boards. Not to mention the amazing folks that will answer your questions and offer lots of support. Good luck!

    Least Agreeable Foods *Spinoff*

Once I'm banded I plan on staying away from the "big" no-no's. Like soft breads and soda (which I don't drink anyway), but out of curiosity, how do you discover as a bandster what is not agreeable? Is it something that gets "stuck" (that's my worse fear is I'll eat something that gets stuck)? Or is it something that just no longer agrees with your stomach (as in makes you queasy). For example, I love steak. I've heard a lot of bandsters are able to eat steak while others cannot. Figuring how my luck normally goes, I think I'll be scared to even try a bite of steak for fear I'll get it stuck and be in severe pain. I have a friend that was banded like 4 years ago, she cannot eat meat in any form (she also is pretty bad with her band, lots of milkshakes - she's gained like 40lbs back - I realize this is her own fault by not being a "good" bandster) but, I think I would be a little disappointed if I could never eat meat again, which I love. In all honesty not being able to eat meat wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me I'm still getting the Lap Band regardless, but the journey to discover what foods I'm able to tolerate scares me a little.

    Am I too old?

At one of the seminars I attended there was a lady there telling her story about the Lap Band. She was 67yrs old and had it put in at age 65. She looks 20 yrs younger then she did in her before pictures. She said she felt better then she did when she was 30. Go for it!

    Tolerable/Intolerable foods?

I love steak, but almost everyone I've talked to post-band says it's almost impossible to eat. I hope I'm one of the people that can tolerate it, but in all honesty it's not enough of a deal-breaker to stop me from getting the band. If I have to live w/o steak...so be it. lol
  9. It depends on your insurance coverage. I have Aetna and had to do 3 months of supervised dieting in order to qualify. I know some insurance plans don't require any pre-approval diet.
  10. Ugh, comments like that really annoy me. For some reason it seems to be "okay" to make fun of or be nasty to someone that's overweight. Where I live it's awful, I've had teenage boys drive by and "moo" at me while I'm gardening in my own front yard...it's depressing. I hear comments all the time, I guess that's why recently I went through a period where I hardly left the house. I live in Oklahoma, we seem to have exceeded our quota in douchebags recently...lol. I'm sure this is the case everywhere to some extent, but when I go to see my DH's family in Georgia I never have anything like that happen to me. *shrug* Lately, it feels like every time I leave the house some jerk has something to say....I know I shouldn't care what others think but, I can't help it. So, needless to say when something like this happens, my self-esteem takes even more of a nosedive. Someday soon...if I ever get my surgery date (pending insurance approval) I'm going to enjoy leaving the house again and not worry about being shamed in public by random jerk's comments.... Sorry, didn't mean to vent, this is just a really sore subject for me.

How much longer do you have?

I just finished my 3 month supervised diet plan. I have another appointment with my surgeon on 6/25 and HOPEFULLY after that my paperwork will get submitted to Aetna. Then I get to wait....ugh Wow, and I'm an idiot because I'm a 3 month person...SORRY!

    Emotional Eating

This is the part of banding that scares me the most. Emotional eating and head hunger have always been tough for me to deal with. As soon as something goes wrong, or I'm bored.....BAM I'm stuffing my face. I'm trying to break these habits now, so when I am banded it won't be as big of an issue.

Im so ashamed, and now scared

I'm so sorry you had to go through that but I want to thank you for posting about it. For us that haven't been banded yet, that's a great way to warn others to BE CAREFUL. I'm glad you're feeling better, take care...you CAN do this! :rolleyes2:

    Newbe

It took me a few seminars to find the doc that was right for me. It added more time to my journey (working on being approved) but, I have a doc I'm comfortable with and I'm happy about that. Best of luck to you!

I know how you feel WWH. I'm so glad I've made the decision to move forward with the Lap Band procedure! I can't wait to get approved (in the final stages now). Best of luck! Shir2Bthin - Congrats on your weight loss! You must be SO PROUD!

  19. I'm glad I saw this thread, I currently am on a BP med that is about the size of an aspirin. I plan on showing it to my surgeon when I go to my appt next week.

    coming out of the closet...

Just popping in to send good wishes your way LJM. You've been such an inspiration to me over the months I've been struggling with having this surgery done. I'm praying for you, and sending positive baby thoughts your way. :biggrin2:

how do you handle the fatigue?

Just a thought but is it too early for pre-natal Vitamins? My friend recently started taking some (at 3months) and it's helped her a lot since she has MANY health issues (including severe RA) that she can't medicate while pregnant. With the additional pain she's been having her energy level was zapped. The vitamins actually got her to the point where she could make it to work (she's on light duty due to being a high-risk pregnancy).

255 lbs to lose. Can it be done?

You and I are starting with the same goal. I suffer from depression issues (weight related - we think) and my doc said a big NO to gastric bypass. I have an appointment with my surgeon on June 25th, then my paperwork gets submitted for approval...I can't wait!
  23. Grats on the pregnancy!!!

Not suitable for LAP Banding? :(

I originally picked a surgeon that was close to home, he really pushed for me to have a RNY (because that's what he prefers to do). I didn't want to put myself at that kind of risk (I'm a total whimp and I've never had surgery) so, I found a doctor that ONLY did Lap Band. He's a wonderful surgeon with a lot of banding experience, he's from Norway....he's just adorable! I can't wait to get approved for my surgery!!! My PCP said a big NO to RNY she thinks it's too risky, she also feels that with the upcoming research in weight loss having something that is not able to be easily reversed is silly. I totally agree. I'm glad it's all working out for you GG
  25. I've been to two seminars (while I was choosing docs) the doctor attended both of them. Not sure I would like a seminar that didn't include a doctor.
