Cerrin, you can do this...you WILL do this!! Keep your chin up, celebrate how far you come, and don't be too hard on yourself. This isn't an easy journey for anyone. ((HUGS))

255 lbs to lose. Can it be done?
MicheleK replied to hopefulmom25's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not yet, on the last month of my 90 day pre-approval diet. I'm almost there...I can't wait to begin my journey!! -
Quite possibly regretting my UCSD decision
MicheleK replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same thing happened to me, when I attended my first seminar I felt like I was attending a sales meeting. No thanks, I walked away and found another surgeon....guess how much I pay out of pocket?? NOTHING (with the exception of co-pays) IMO, if you feel uneasy...get out. It's not worth the hassle. -
Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
MicheleK replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG the list is SO LONG: 1. Causing fights with my DH based solely on my own insecurities. 2. avoiding sex because I'm so embarassed of my body 3. HEAVY periods 4. being out of breath from walking only a short distance 5. not wanting to leave the house because I'm scared someone will say something mean 6. trying to find something in my closet that fits 7. trying on stacks of clothes while shopping only to find out none of them fit 8. dreading social events 9. okay..this one is gross...under the belly sweating 10. fearing ill never have a child 11. fearing im going to die all the time cuz of my weight 12. letting my housework go because I'm so lazy I can't get up and do it Plus everything everyone else said! -
I'm so sorry you had to go through that nightmare!! Thank goodness you were able to get your money back, and you're going to be okay. Are you going to opt for other WLS?

I'm sorry you're having a rough time Cerrin. I'm not banded yet, but I think you're in that bandster hell phase I read so much about. Hang in there you can do this!

255 lbs to lose. Can it be done?
MicheleK replied to hopefulmom25's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm scared too Shannongetsslim. I've never had surgery and I hate needles...so I'll bet this will be a hoot, lol. It's okay, we'll make it!! Just like all the brave souls before us. -
You guys are kickin butt! Grats on your success, I can't wait to get done with this stupid 90 day pre-approval diet so I can join you in this wonderful journey.

Not going to look into attempting to get preg until I'm banded and have lost a considerable about of weight (currently doing 90 pre-approval diet for insurance). My symptoms included, adult acne, facial hair, horrid weight gain, HEAVY periods, depression and lack of energy. I guess I'll tell my PCP im interested in looking into being tested for it. Just wasn't sure if it was done with a PAP or a blood test or ultrasound.. Thanks for the reply

Hostile Work Environment Or Just Another Excuse
MicheleK replied to MollyBrown's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't work for the gov't but I did work for an ass much like the one you are describing. I'm glad you're getting yourself AWAY from that situation. I stuck mine out for 3yrs, until finally it was taking such a toll on my health I had to leave. I'm sending good thoughts your way!!! ((HUGS)) -
Well said Wheet!

WOW You look amazing LJM! -
Mazie, you are such an inspiration!! I know how you feel Flip, I haven't even been banded yet, (finishing up my 90day supervised diet). It sure feels like a LONG road ahead.

The comment I see most on these boards is: "I wish I would've done this sooner". If you have the means to pay for the Lapband procedure yourself, go for it!

Welcome and grats on your surgery date!

just starting the process
MicheleK replied to cleanteeth's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm almost 30 days into my 90 day insurance required dietician supervised weightloss program. I've done OKAY, nothing great tho, lost 10lbs and that's pretty much it so far. Like you, I'm ready to get the ball rolling and move forward with my new life. Best of luck  -

Really dumb question, but I was overthinking.......
MicheleK replied to nesser081982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I'd like to think when my fat is gone it moves to someone I don't like....like Paris Hilton. -
Not sure if this has been asked before, I did a quick search and didn't find much info. I'm a smoker and have been been for all of my adult life (ugh!). I've asked my surgeon of choice about his policy regarding smoking and he requires we quit 2 days before surgery and not smoke 2 days after surgery. This seems fairly liberal as the original doctor I was going to use required that smokers quit for 3 months prior to surgery. He even did blood tests to verify! So my question is, what did your doc require? I'm assuming the reason for this is to help the healing process?? Why the diff between the two doctor's requirements? Any advice/comments are welcome.

I've known 6 people that have had RNY. Four have gained back over half their weight. One is a new RNY patient (under a year out) and is doing very good. The sixth is a girl I worked with that threw up so much from overeating after her RNY that she has torn her esophogas to shreds. It was a no-brainer for me, less downtime and less complications from surgery. However, WLS is a very personal choice and while I can only go from personal exp, I know there have been MANY success stories from other surgeries. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck. :purplebananna:

Thank you for the comments/support!! I've been toying with the idea of quitting for ages, and I guess this is a good excuse to do so. I have a perscription for Chantrix, I've taken it before but it gave me horrid nightmares...BUT it did curb my cravings. Maybe it's time to give it another go.

Insurance approved me for surgery!!!
MicheleK replied to ThinDolphin3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Grats on your surgery dates!!! I can't wait for this 3 month diet crap to be over so I can submit my paperwork! -
I have a friend that's been banded for 4 years and still can't drink a margarita because of the acid from the lime juice. She DOES drink plenty of white russians! (she says the cream helps it go down easier w/o heartburn) lol I'm not much of a drinker in recent years, but I do like the occasional glass of wine. I plan to continue enjoying it in moderation once my doc says it's okay.
