Question for all post op vets ( at least 2 years post op or longer)
NotOnMyWatch replied to xoxococojay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You may as well get used to it. That's what happens when there are precious few successful vets around. Well, the OPs questions have been duly answered. With as little drama as possible. There was No need for all the "the sky is falling" comments about everyone leaving. Just give it time, and someone'll answer. To answer your other question, I am a recently sleeved friend of a 3 year post op RNY patient. I was initially skeptical of WLS (research vs cost benefits) until watching his transformation up close and personal, developing hypertension, and waiting to move to a state with few hiccups regarding coverage prompted my surgery decision. I stalked BP for 1 year before creating a profile a few days before my surgery.. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App So not only do you name-call and stalk people, but you have reading comprehension trouble too? "Recently sleeved" is not 2+ years post-op and being a friend of someone who is doesn't make you a vet either. This is the kind of advice-givers who will dominate going forward, now that all of the reliable people have been banned. Lord help you all. -

Curious....under what principle are you changing people's user names, people who don't have the ability to change them? Why be so childish? -

According to the new rules, you aren't allowed to ask the opinion of a specific sub-set of people. Be careful. The ban hammer is out. -

And now he's apparently changing the banned users names to things like Time To Grow Up and Stop Being a Child. This is your leader, folks. Hey Alex, how about you take your own advice? Ah, name-calling, the last bastion of the uneducated. -

But the blockbuster is your admission (long suspected by me) that you read BP members' private messages. IMO reading members' private messages is a significant ethical violation by any message board operator. Those who choose to remain here need to understand that clearly. This. Right. Here. -

I know you won't bother deleting my account, but I won't be here anymore. You remind me too much of the incoming "president," bullying people and taking choices away from them. If I felt safe here, I don't after reading this post of yours. I don't believe for one minutes that medical professionals (unless intimately associated with you) give a whit what happens here. You have banned the true sources of wisdom and allowed the petulant children to remain. I can only assume I haven't been banned because I'm still pre-op and therefore a potential customer of your store. I hope know one sues you after they receive permission to eat pizza and drink beer in the recovery room and then rupture their sleeve, from the wonderful fount of knowledge that remains here. You have permission to use nothing that you find in my profile or private messages. -
Grazing and how to end it?!
NotOnMyWatch replied to sasharbinx's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I've been months in therapy to deal with my grazing. I can't get approved to move forward to surgery until I master it. I feel like I have. It's super frustrating. -
I can't even imagine wanting to eat anything fried, or being successful long-term even going down that road. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

HAPPY HEALTHY HOLIDAYS CHALLENGE!

I have to have therapy as part of my program. She helps me to identify the unhelpful dialogues in my head. But it wasn't until I went away by myself for a month for the sole purpose of soul searching this and a couple of other topics that I finally figured it all out. I understand this isn't an option for most people but I'm in between jobs so the timing was perfect. I journaled, colored, walked the dog, and wrote letters to my dead parents, sister, and abuser. I burnt them in a ritual at the campfire. And now my head is in the right place. Good luck. You can do this! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

My Father is against surgery

Why tell people if you think they won't support you? Now is the time to surround yourself with positivity. Skip telling him. Better for your mental health. And at least 75% of this journey is mental. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App -
HAPPY HEALTHY HOLIDAYS CHALLENGE!

It's taken me about 4 months of therapy, a month of soul searching at the lake, a lot changes to other parts of my life that were "weighing me down" and a toe dip into OA to finally figure out my triggers and how to overcome them. For me, much of my overeating was visual. Donuts that I bought for my son on the counter? Mine. Hubby's chips on top of the fridge? Mine. I spent last weekend rearranging my kitchen so that my triggers were hidden and all 'my' food waz in one cabinet so that I don't have to open the others. So far, so good. Good luck! How did you choose between bypass and sleeve?
NotOnMyWatch replied to annasr08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are pretty much all the same reasons I'm wanting the sleeve. Doc wants me to have RNY. I'm still reading about both but am 95% sure I'm going sleeve. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App -
Self-discovery in preparation for my surgery
NotOnMyWatch replied to ginabee38's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I recently spent a month at our summer place doing a lot of soul searching, not just about WLS but many other aspects of my life. I've been in the program toward surgery for about 7 months and thought I would be scheduled by now. Alas, I'm not. And my time waiting has been well spent...researching, writing, exploring sites like this. I have come to realize that while I only 'thought' I was ready before, I am ready AND prepared now. Good luck on your journey! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App -
Obesity, Cancer and Bariatric Surgery
NotOnMyWatch replied to nico08's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As a colon cancer survivor myself, I can say that we are already at risk for an reoccurrence (sp?). For me, the benefits of the WLS outweighs any additional colon cancer risks. You'll be required to have a psych consult by your insurance (most likely). Be honest during it. They might recommend CBT to help with the emotional eating issues. ( That's me too and am currently in CBT) My program does very few bands anymore because they don't have the long term weight loss like the other surgeries. I'm leaning towards the sleeve but not ruling out RNY just yet. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App -

I don't think many would say that all newbies have nothing to bring to any conversation. At least I hope not. BUT, the o/p DID state she wanted VETS opinions. Her right as a poster. If one chooses to blatently disregard that, that's on them. And hearsay isn't accepted in court for a reason. If I ask for people's experiences, I don't want to hear what happened in a book or to you mother's second cousin twice removed on your brother's side. Things get lost in translation. That said, please be kind to one another. We're all struggling and have some level of fear. Enjoy you day! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App -
Hi all, I've been going through the steps in my chosen bariatric program but I can't seem to "pass" CBT. I've been at the program for about 8 months and therapy weekly for about 4 months. I'm dying to get a surgery date before my insurance deductible resets in January. If I don't, I'm not sure I can afford it and all my work will be wasted. I don't know how to get over this frustration. Thanks for listening. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

your support and encouragement are greatly appreciated... still doesn't mean I know nothing about diet soda, carbonation and so on...still doesn't mean I have nothing of value to add.. just bc you are able to drink sugar free soda wo effects doesn't make it good for you and going back looking for a weak post I wrote to pick on and use against be is beyond immature as well as appalling to me. Sure I can get upset and not like what someone says but not going to go look for things there struggling with to bring them down Wow O/P specifically asked for the experience of vets. BTW, I'm a newbie and have not encountered any unfriendliness here. But I also don't speak unless asked something that I have personal experience with. Stick around and try that. I bet you'll get tons of great advice and support. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App -

I don't know, unless it's what my therapist is reporting to the program. They wanted me to work on conquering my grazing, which I did, and to work on a meal plan and exercise. I'm trying to work on a meal plan, but have reached a point where I need more detailed help from the NUT. Can't see her until I "pass" therapy. Exercise is hatder because I'm recovering from knee surgery. But I am doing chair stuff, which should count for something. I just want to start feeling better... First, can you really not drink anything for an hour after you eat? Second, I have to have regular CAT scans (cancer follow ups). Does anyone know how you drink 32ozs of that awful liquid in an hour after surgery? Thanks! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
