    Expected Weight Loss

Yeah, I'd just keep going on your plan. THe thing is nobody really knows until you get closer. I have a goal weight but I view it as essentially random. I have no idea what I will look and feel like at these lower numbers. I have an idea of what I want but until I'm closer I will have no idea what is reasonable and healthy for ME.

Going out to eat is depressing...

I don't know if this will help but it's just a suggestion. I eat very slow now when I go out so I can stay on pace with my dinner-mates. I take a bite and then lean back. I also do a lot more talking now as I dont' have my mouth full. lol! I also take it as an opportunity to try different flavors on my Proteins. So I get something different to try. I also love knowing that I can just order off the appetizer menu now. lol! That's always fun. But I agree, it is important that you come up with different things to connect with your husband on. I know after work it's hard to do something other than just go out to eat. Maybe bowling?? I know that sounds nuts but he can eat/drink while bowling? Something like that. Sorry, just brainstorming. Also, maybe do some of those mystery dinner things or the dinner and a show. That way you can start to combine things?

    Slow Sore Loser

Oh my, I just want to hug you. I'm so sorry! I can't imagine your loss and pain. I don't know if I have any suggestions for you except this: Please try to love yourself as much as your sister loved you, please don't turn to alcohol to soften the pain. It's so dangerous for us now. Are you in any form of therapy? I feel like this is a really big thing and maybe too big for me to come up with any helpful words or ideas. Dealing with loss and grief like this, even for people who aren't dealing with what we are, is already so hard. Of course you are struggling and feeling like you are going to drown in the pain. Of course you are turning to other things because our old standby of food for Comfort is gone. I have so much compassion for you, I wish I could help you. Do you have someone to talk to, you said your sister was your best friend, do you have another person in your life you can talk to? I want you to know you can message me, if you need an encouraging word or just want to chat.

    I can't do this!

Oh love!! Hang in there, you CAN do this!! I know it's hard, this is the worst it's gonna be. It gets a little better every day. Are you on an acid reducer? It's important because extra acid in the stomach can feel like hunger. I didn't believe people and then I got on the meds and Holy Cow! It's true!! I know how horrible this is, you are going to be OK. What is your support system at home?

12 weeks but I had gallbladder removed, hernia repair and the VGS.

    Drinking before and after eating

Sometimes I sip some Water if I'm eating something really dry but honestly? It's not that big of a deal. It feels like a bigger deal when you are starting out but it will soon become very natural for you. If you drink water and have a full tummy you are going to feel a lot of discomfort. There's only so much room in there so drinking water makes you feel like this, lol!: Just not enjoyable now. lol!

    Vindication!

that's a 14lb difference!!!!!!!!!!! Holy crap!! I'd have brought in my scale too. lol! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VINDICATION is YOURS!! I personally like to do an actual victory lap over something like this. Go ahead and run around the room holding up the peace sign to all the cheering fans, you deserve it!!

    I miss fooood

I'm 4 months out, I'm a food addict. Or was. I remember the first time I snuck food, I grew up in an abusive environment and food was my one joy. So I get it. But this surgery really changes so much. I did go through a withdraw/, mourning period, it wasn't easy. But the thing is that my new stomach has changed the way my brain works. I still crave yummy food that's filled with fats and carbs and calories, but then I take like one or two tastes and they dont' even taste that good anymore. lol! It's so funny. Anyway, I've found that my fixation on food has practically died now (I'm 42 and spent my entire life thinking about food mostly and just 4 months later I only think of it when I realize it's eating time). I craved all sorts of foods when I was on the liquid/recovery stage and once I was opened to full food I tried little taste and was shocked at just how much I didn't want them anymore. Give yourself time, make sure you allow yourself to feel the full grief and loss over the changes we've made. Follow your plan (when I eat mostly Protein I find my cravings for crap are almost zero) and know that if you just go hour by hour, day by day you will find you've gotten past the worst of it. It will get better!!!

    Onederland!

Yup, hair and nails, message. That's my plan for when I break the 100 barrer! loL!
  10. Isn't not even thinking about how many calories I'm consuming what got me to morbid obesity in the first place? I'm just worried that I'm going to gain back the 7 pounds I lost last week and then never lose more. I did leave a message for the registered dietician at my bariatric practice. Maybe she can clear things up for me. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App Oh no, what I meant was - you will be lucky to even get 200 calories a day at first. Of course I'm not advising you to ignore your diet advice or to eat unhealthy. But if you follow the post op plan you will get up to about 400 calories a day by week 3 or so. When I asked my doctor about calories per day he's the one who told me not to worry myself about them at this point as it's nearly impossible to eat too much at that stage and to focus on protein and Water only. It's once I was on full food and have been for a few weeks that I was able to eat about 600 calories a day. I am now, 4 months post op getting about 850 calories per day. I have been told to focus on eating just protein, getting my Vitamins and water in and walking as much as I can. *shrugs* I was just providing you with the advice I was given from Dr. Zare in CA.
  11. It's gonna be low. Don't even think about it. You are just on the protein shakes and liquids. You aren't going to be getting much till 8 weeks or so.

    Excessive coughing post op

Green mucus is not good. I'm very glad you emailed him. Could be a lung cold but if the breathing exorcises are making it worse that means you have a lot of Fluid in your lungs.

    Excessive coughing post op

Are you doing the deep breathing exercises to make sure you aren't getting Fluid in your lungs? The coughing thing might not be a big deal but it could also be something. Check in with your Surgeon's office if you don't have one of those breathing things where you have to exhale and make the ball raise up.

    Stomach gurgling?!

It happens from time to time with me but is lessening as I heal. I'm almost 4 months post op and all of that is settling down. The more you heal the better things will be. Hang in there!

    My recovery has been horrible

Give yourself some time. This is an 8 week healing process. Give your body the time it needs. Eating solid food can make you very ill and put you back in the hospital. I'd suggest calling your doctor tomorrow and tell them what's been happening. I see someone else mention the gracie juice thing. I agree, I think what you are eating is making you sick. Water, Protein shakes, broth. That's about it for me the first the weeks.

The first time in my life

    How exciting!! You look great!!!

    Super Bowl food/drink

3.5 weeks? You can have soft foods right? No carbonation, no sugar, no solids, no alcohol. I'd recommend sticking to Water (or whatever you drink instead of water) and your own food. Trust me, if you try to eat any of the food you will probably be quite sick and could hurt your stomach incision. Your tummy isn't ready for that stuff. If it were me? I'd just say you are on a diet and are doing shakes.

    Sleeved Jan 17th

I went through this as well. It's so many things. I was sleeved the 17th too. Physically fine, not a problem at all with soreness. But..mentally not so good. I have had a tough week. I think of food all the time, and have crazy cravings. I have also experienced hunger which has been disappointing. Started with 1st real food today, 1/2 scambled egg...was so looking forward to it. It tasted good, but I did not feel good afterwards. I get heartburn and gassy. Hoping it gets better, but so far, I have serious "buyers remorse". Doesn't feel worth the 22 lbs down since surgery. #1, when we lose weight fast, if your a woman, it releases all the stored hormones in there. #2, what we did by having this surgery is completely change how we live our lives and for some of us there is a mourning period. I cried solid for the 7 days between week 4 and 5. That's when I learned the only way out of it...is through it. I had to feel all those emotions, the regret, the fear and loss of how I used to sooth myself with food, all of it. Most of us, 99.999% of us get over these feelings, we are relearning and with that comes letting go of the past. It's OK to feel how you feel. Just keep pushing through. 23 doesn't seem worth it but wait till you are at 50 or 100. Everything is so much better! #3, are you on a Proton pump inhibitor like Prilosec? It's helped me so much. I had 24/7 acid and the doc told me to use that. Hang in there, it does get better. I'll be honest, I told everyone to not compliment me on my weightloss for the first month or so because it just upset me so much. I said "I'm miserable, I'm upset and I regret it right now. People telling me I look good just makes me feel like they only care that I'm skinner not that I'm miserable and can't stop crying". I swear, for most of us it gets so much better!
  23. So back when I was on a liquid diet when I lost 100 lbs this was something I did. It was because I'm addicted to food. So what you are experiencing is a form of withdraw and chewing and spitting is a form of trying to give yourself a hit of your drugs. I was able to get past it so I'm sure you will as well. It's good to talk to people about it too. You said you are getting bored so you did it so I have some suggestions! lol! Start a project like a knitting, art or craft project. Sequin Art Butterfly off of Amazon - buy it and do it! That latch-hook rug of a cute coastal scene? Get it! Do it! What you want to have is something to keep your hands and mind busy while at home watching TV or movies. Don't give your body a chance to send your brain signals and keep your brain occupied so it ignores some of those impulses. Get sugar free pudding and yummy creamy Soups that you can strain and enjoy the savory Soup. You want to give yourself options for when you are feeling snacky or munchy. Alternatives that feel like cheating but are really on your plan. Finally, one of the bad things about chewing and spitting right now is Acid. What happens is your body reacts by producing more acid for your stomach as you are chewing. So your new tummy is being inundated with all this acid that isn't good for it. Acid reflux also is confusing for our new tummies and instead of telling us there is too much acid it kind of feels like we are hungry, which would creating a cyclical process for you of chewing, spitting, feeling hungry, chewing, spitting, etc. The best thing for you health wise both physically and psychologically is to curb this impulse as much as possible and find healthy alternatives to satisfy these needs you are feeling. Good luck and congratulations on having the surgery, it's the best!

    Survey of post- op sleevers

You are so welcome! I feel very much more confident and happy! I am more confident in my ability to do things, moving is easy, less of an effort so I'm excited to walk each day and get out there and move. Now, I will say I'm a fairly happy person in general but I'm more happy now. I'm also really proud of myself for having done this and gotten through it. I wasn't proud of myself before, so if I've gained anything it's that self-confidence and pride (the good kind not the kind that comes before a fall. haha!).

    So depressed

Are you on a anti-acid/ProtoPump inhibitor? I found my hunger was really acid reflux. I didn't believe the doc but I took the meds and YUP! That's what it was!! In the grand scheme of things this is a very small amount of time, you will soon be moving to pureed foods and then to softs. Each new step is fun and difficult all at the same time. Try to distract yourself, walk and drink your Protein shakes. This will be over soon!!
