  1. Her journey....on TV for the whole world to watch. Why is it so upsetting for us to be discussing this in an adult manner?

    Feel like sabotaging today

Well handled!!! you clearly stated you were looking for support and encouragement. Don't know where that response came from. Personally? I'd wait longer before breaking my protocol diet. Have you been measuring yourself?? You know what happens to me? I don't lose but I keep shrinking. I guess I'm building a ton of muscle but I've gone from a size 16 to a size 12 with only losing 10 lbs. lol! Sometimes it doesn't make sense. Also, it's OK to have some carbs sometimes. I was cutting out all carbs and then I was told I needed to add some back in. That was crazy! lol! I know it's frustrating but keep in mind that our metabolisms are so strange and it's hard to figure out exactly whats going on sometimes. The body doesn't like to lose weight this quickly so sometimes the metabolism will slow down tremendously. We just have to persevere through these times and try not to internalize it as if you've done something wrong. You haven't. Your body is just stubborn. So keep walking, keep drinking your water, keep hitting your protein goals and feel GREAT knowing you are doing everything you can to maximize this initial weight loss period. If you are feeling discouraged I recommend you do something physical you were incapable of doing before. So for me I just bend over and tie my shoes, I then run my hands up my calfs and along my ankle, I feel the bones start showing. I then feel my wrists, wrap my fingers around it and see how much smaller they are. Feel up my forearms and collar bone. I like to physically feel the evidence of my weight loss. It lifts my mood and spirit so quickly. My body slowly revealing itself to me and my increased mobility are THE most satisfying and motivating factors of this entire process for me. So maybe it will help you feel re-encouraged and make you realize that a Stall is not a Reversal or a Stop. It's just a pause while your body processes all we've been doing to it.
  3. I may be mistaken but isn't she the one who put all of this out there for the public to view and discuss? I don't know about others but I haven't' body shamed her at all IMO. I personally believe she truncated the process, had the plastic surgery too soon and hasn't reached goal weight. Part of that is the look of her arms and legs. That's not shaming her to discuss what she is showing off and doing interviews on, photoshoots and multiple talk shows. I believe that her story is not an accurate one in that she didn't do it the way 99% of VGS patients have done it. I am personally disappointed that people view this discussion as body shaming and that we can't even talk about this without people getting offended and upset.

    Fried food. Stay away.

Our bodies like really clean foods now, right? It's a good lesson to learn but sucks when we have to learn the hard way.
  5. So for me I see it as her telling the world that you can have the VGS in March and skin removal surgery in January. To me her story tells a dangerous and inaccurate journey. I think her story is totally misrepresenting the real journey patients have to take and I am getting asked about how I feel about her story constantly. lol! So fine, imma b***h. But I don't believe she did the process in a realistic manner at all and I don't believe she reached goal weight before having a bunch of skin cut off and I think other people will think it's gonna be that quick for them.

April 3rd, three days post ops

    That is great!!!! Congratulations!!
  7. I'd agree with that if she wasn't a celebrity showing her journey on national TV. And I've been asked how I feel about it, and her 6, times already. So I feel like it impacts me personally. I also kind of resent her being the face of WLS if she's not gonna do it right.

    Day 1 post op

walk walk walk walk walk. That's the best remedy to move the gas out of your body.
  9. I was 365 lbs at my highest weight and am 5' 1". It's taken me years to get to this point where I'm now a size 12. My arms and legs took a long time to slim down. I feel like she did things so fast, if the 11 months is real than that is way too fast. The surgeon's I'm meeting with to begin screening for a full body lift won't even consider surgery till I've maintained for 12 straight months. And I don't expect to hit goal until I'm at like 8-12 months! Of course I want it to all be done and now and at goal/surgeries done but the reality is that at the BEST most truncated timeline - I'm looking at 24 months post VGS before the docs would put it on their books. and it's mostly likely going to be 36 months. And according to my doc's I am progressing optimally.

All I can do is sleep

Yes, you had something major done and your body needs time to heal and recover. It was only 2 days ago you had 80% of your stomach removed. People take longer than that to heal from a paper cut.
  11. This sounds more like what I saw. Her legs and arms don't look like she reached goal before the body lift.
  12. So you are saying he's a lost cause and for them to not try? I'm trying to understand your advice to this woman who is looking to help her friend. Giving up on someone and determining them as a lost cause doesn't really seem supportive or Pal like.

    What is wrong with me??

Are you on an antacid?? I felt constant "hunger" but it ended up it was acid indigestion. I'm on OTC Prilosec.
  14. So thinking more about this I think one of the best things you can do is find a local support group for him that's close to work. Also, there are groups that get together and make a whole week worth of meals. It's becoming kind of popular. One of the things you guys could do is maybe either find a group or create one. That way everyone is making their own week's worth of meals, him included, and it's a fun social event rather than an arduous boring task. I love that you said you guys go walking together. Walking, moving, it's one of the BEST motivators. For me it wasn't the scale, it wasn't the smaller clothes, it was MOVING. It was putting on my shoes without any effort or problem, it was my increased mobility that has been, by a wide margin, the most motivating factor in the whole process for me. The more I can move the more I WANT to move. So getting into a Bariatric support group close to his work. Find a Food Prep group he can participate in to help in learn how to do it - because some people have no idea and that's totally ok - they just need some help. Many obese people don't know how to cook, they just eat out. It's not totally uncommon. Walk walk walk walk walk walk walk walk and more walking.
  15. I first want to start out by saying how loving and kind this is for you do to. I also want to say that it doesn't matter how much others want this for him, this is a journey that, in the end, he must travel himself. It sounds to me like he needs more than nutritional help, he might need therapy as well to help him deal with his new reality. To your questions! My family and friends have been amazing support and have done so by encouraging me when I'm down, cheering me on my successes and being understanding of my emotional ups and downs. Also they have been great about allowing me to change my life and habits and the time I spend with them. I have had to change everything in my life and some of this changes are not easy for people who want me around more than I will be now because I'm out exercising and getting fit and living a new life. I love the support they give me and when I need something else or when I feel something needs to be different I tell them. Open communication and honesty is how I operate. (I am a very routine person, I eat the same things day in and day out - always have - so this one day snapshot is pretty on point for my daily routine.) Breakfast (7:30 AM): Whole wheat English muffin (Sometimes for fun I'll get cinnamon raisin or blueberry for a sweet and savory breakfast. It's my highest carbs of the day.) 1 slice american cheese 4 slices hormel precooked bacon zapped for 20 secs in microwave Assemble (fold cheese corners in so they don't stick out. That's my Special Trick. hahahaha!), enjoy. WATER: 30 minutes after finishing my breakfast I begin my water consumption. I aim for 16-24 oz consumed before lunch. Lunch (12:00): 4oz Homemade low carb Chicken Teriyaki OR low carb Chili WATER: 30 minutes after finishing my lunch resume my water consumption. I aim for 16oz consumed before mid-day meal. Mid-day meal (3:00): 4oz Homemade low carb Chicken Teriyaki OR low carb Chili WATER: 30 minutes after finishing my meal I get back to my water consumption. I aim for 16 oz consumed before Dinner. Dinner (6:00): 4oz homemade Butter Chicken or Lemon Chicken WATER: 30 minutes after finishing I get back to my water. At this point I've made my goal for the day and I'm just now drinking cause I'm thirsty. lol! Snack/Vitamins (evening): I eat my vitamins (Vitagene vitamins are DA BOMB and I can't recommend their service enough) and sometimes have a tablespoon of Peanut Butter while watching the old boobtube. Exercise: I didn't see you asking about this but I find it to be the most important part. Your friend should be walking. A lot. I am at 6 months and I now walk 5-7 miles a day. I started out with 3 walks during my work day. Each 15 minutes long. 10:00, lunch, 2:00. I set my phone to 7 minutes. Walk one direction, flip back when it goes off. I think your friend needs to add exercise into his eating routine. That helped me a lot. I rarely eat mid-day without then walking afterwards. Now I do crunches and push-ups when I wake up, get to work 20 minutes early and put in a quick walk, do my 3 walks during the day and then walk when I get home till the sun goes down. We only get this 1st year once, I want to do whatever I can to maximize my time. Good luck to your friend, I think what you are doing sounds amazing but I worry that you might be more invested in his health and future than he is...I hope your support and encouragement can help him get back on track!

Looking for people 5 month post op or longer

I can't agree more. I have a scale at work and home. It's invaluable to me. Because food can be deceptive and our eyes aren't always the best measuring cup. lol!

New Balance has the best shoes for overweight people getting back into walking, IMO. Here's a link listing a whole bunch: http://bootbomb.com/a-guide-to-choosing-the-best-walking-shoes-for-yourself-at-an-affordable-price/an-overview-of-walking-shoes-for-overweight-women-currently-available-on-the-market/

Can't keep anything down besides water!

No, that was not my experience at all. I never vomited at all. If this keeps happening I would call back.

    When Did You Eat Pizza?

I eat the top off of pizza and have about 1 large slice worth at most. But just the toppings. No bread. And I like just cheese, spicy chicken and sauce so I'm easy. lol!

That is so wonderful!! Congratulations!! Yes, this surgery has changed my life too. I have so much more hope and excitement about the future. This weekend I did something similar. I'm almost at 6 months out and I now walk between 5 and 7 miles a day. I decided this last weekend to try my hand at hiking. I hiked 10 miles up and down steep terrain and had a MARVELOUS time. It was so amazing to feel so active and alive, healthy and free. I did the hike alone as I didn't want people seeing me struggle. Oh how wrong I was!! I didn't struggle at all! It was phenomenal and I'm still on the high from it. I'm doing it again next weekend. I can't wait!

    Loose Skin after sleeve surgery

I'm already saving for the full body lift. I have seen some amazing post results, have already been sourcing out surgeons even though it's gonna be 2 years at least. Why? Because they have a lot of great suggestions. But either your skin will rebound or it won't. You need to give it more time to know. My GP said that within a year we will see how much bounces back and how much I will have to deal with. It's far too soon to know what you will look like. Also need to work on toning and muscle strength once you've been cleared. I have been working on my legs, butt, core and arms. I am seeing an improvement. I'm also seeing an improvement under my chin. I don't have a lot of loose flesh but when I tilt my head down it kind of wrinkles at base a little bit. My GP said that should be gone as I lose more. While our bodies are in flux it's hard to know what you will be dealing with long term. I am focusing on building muscle, losing fat, eating my protein and drinking my water. I hate the way my body looks as it's melting but I am also excited to see just how far I can go and then go to the next step with surgery. Will I look like a model? Hells no!! Do I care? No. I don't want to be perfect, I don't need the perfect beach body, I just don't want to look like I'm melting. We will most likely never be exactly how we want to look (Who is really? lol!) but we can be so much closer. Talk to your surgeon if they are local to you, they will have a lot of plastic surgeon referrals and if your Doc is like mine, well renowned in the area, then they'll also have the best plastic surgeons to recommend. Good luck! This is a "good" problem to have. It does suck and is slightly demoralizing but there are ways to combat it. Not cheap but for me I think it's worth it. I think you are smart to start your research now, but remember to stay focused on the real goals here.

How did you handle changing clothing size ?

I work and so I can't have clothes falling off of me. I get 2 pairs of jeans, 2 t-shirts and 3 nice shirts along with a nice light cover-up jacket. I have now done this 3 times. I don't buy expensive stuff but I do go into the stores, I don't buy online as I have no idea what will fit. lol! Oh, and I upgrade my undies and bra's MUCH more frequently. Sagging panties are the WORST. Then once those start visibly being too loose, I go and do it again. I did it for my drop to 22 then my drop to 18/16 and now my drop to 10/12. It makes me feel great too. I did buy a dress for a funeral. But it's all inexpensive stuff. I don't want to over do it so I limit what I buy but it feels great to wear a new size and feel like you are rocking it hard. lol
