    June 2017 Sleevers

Hey everyone! Sleeved June 8, down 29 lbs. The last 2 weeks have been slow going, but still moving in the right direction, so I'm not too worried.

    I'm Cold?!

Me too! It's summer here in Texas and everyone is complaining about the heat except me....For once!

    3 week stall

    Happened to me!

    Super bummed

I had a similar issue. Lost a lot of week first 10 days and then nothing else until week 4. Posted on every website I could looking for answers. Turns out week 2 and 3 suck for weight loss for just about everyone. You'll start losing again when you can actually eat more food. I think our body just freaks out on so little calories.

    Suggestions, please ?

I'm a teacher too! I can't believe how hard it is physically to eat slow. My mouth tries to swalliw after like 2 chews! Lol. I really never planned on this being so difficult. I take the teeniest bites I'm a week behind you though, so this really only applies when I eat cottage cheese, because that's the one thing my Dr let me have after 2 weeks that isn't quite a puree.
  6. I was 17 lbs at 2 weeks, but then nothing for 5 days. I know in my heart, eating like this and exercising, the weight will eventually come off. Hang in there and follow your plan!

    Help!

I'm wondering about a full gasterectomy too. There's been some people who have suffered so much, they eventually just had their stomach removed altogether. Have you spoke to your Dr about that?
  8. So we were sleeved the same day. The EXACT thing happened to me! 18 lbs the first 13 days and then absolutely NOTHING until 3 days ago. I started eating every two hours and I upped my exercise to include some arm strengthen exercises and a VERY light jog on part of my walk(it's more like a shuffle really because I'm still afraid of jarring movements, but it seems to get my heart rate going a little faster than just walking alone). I also actually took out a protein shake. So I have 1 protein shake (Premier with 30grams protein), 1 serving cottage cheese (10 g protein), 1 yogurt (Greek triple 0 has 15 g protein), 1 spoonful hummus, I spoonful peanut butter, 1/4 cup broccoli cheddar or chicken soup). It's under 600 calories, and it seems to be working because I'm now down 3 lbs in 3 days. Or maybe it doesn't even matter and it was just naturally time for the stall to end. Whatever the case, I'm glad to see the scale moving again. Good luck to you! Just remember, nobody EVER stopped losing for good 2 weeks after weight loss surgery. Our body is just a little freaked out right now, I'm sure.
  9. I'm really looking for some reassurance from people who are losing weight very successfully. I lost 17 lbs after my first 12 days post op, and I have not lost anything else in a week. I know about the early stalls and I keep telling myself that is probably what's wrong. I just want to make sure that what I'm eating sounds right to you guys, incase I should be eating more..or eating less. I started adding a very slow jog to my walk yesterday, along with some arm exercises, so I'm going to see if that helps. Each day, I have 2 protein shakes and a greek triple 0 yogurt. The 1st shake is bariatric advantage vanilla and has 25 g protein, 2 g fat, 4 g Carb and 150 calories. I make it with almond milk, which adds 30 calories and 3 g fat and 1 g carb. My second shake is Premier, ready made, and it has 160 calories, 1 g carb, 3 g fat and 30 g protein. The yogurt has 120 calories, 0 fat, 9 carbs and 15 g protein. Because I was really feeling hungry, I tried adding 1/2 tbs of peanut butter to a shake, adding 2 carbs, 4 g fat, and 2 proteins and 45 calories. I've also just started adding 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese, which is 70 calories, 1 gram of fat, 5 carb, and 7 protein. So that is a net total of 575 claories, 79 protein, and 13 gram fat, 22 carbs. Up until yesterday, when I increased my exercise, I was walking 1.5 miles on the treadmill, plus cleaning/cooking for 5 kids. Does this sound like the right amount of everything? Should I just keep doing what I'm doing?
  10. I just want to say I feel your pain. So much came off the first 10 days. Now nothing. I'm not super worried, and I know it happens. But there are people at my bmi who lost a lot more, and I do think it is about figuring out how many calories and macro nutrients your personal body needs for maximum weight loss. You could be eating too much of something, or maybe you are actually consuming too little. Sometimes it really seems like a crap shoot.
  11. Actually, I'm one of the few who has tolde EVERYBODY...lol. I'm proud of my decision and not worried about negative opinions. I'm very confident in my decision. Most of the feedback I've gotten has been totally supportive. I feel like people who publically shared their stories really helped me with my decision and gave me a place to go to ask questions or vent. I'm okay with being that person now. I would think it would really depend on the type of people you're around and how sensitive you are personally to criticism or negativity. Definitely a personal decision.

    Any June Sleevers?

    June 7! In Plano, TX
  14. I'm sorry you're having such a rough patch. I just wanted to comment on the drinking aspect. Make sure your friends know how you feel. We had a wonderful teammate who said she'd been sober 6 years and didn't drink. Everyone was afraid to be rude (or tempting) by asking her to happy hour. She took the initiative to let us know she wants to go so now we don't feel rude asking. And she truly is the life of the party!

    Trying to stay positive.....

Oh No! I have BCBS too. Through Bank of America. I'm on my last month that but I gained 2 lb in month 2 also. At my last weigh in next week, I should be at a total loss of 4 pounds. This is because my bmi was only 37.2 so I was afraid to loose too much. It's like you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. What state are you in? I'm in the Dallas area.

    Trying to stay positive.....

That is absolutely awful! My dr. office told me it shouldn't matter as long as you didn't gain weight overall. I was worried because in my 1st month I actually gained a pound too. What insurance do you have? I know there is a legal group that will fight insurance companies on bariatric denials. Maybe someone can chime in with more about that. I'm so sorry your insurance is so dishonest.

Could I be denied if my BMI goes down?

This is also my fear. I am starting at barely over 35 BMI. I'm on the 6 month weigh in. My Dr tells me it's OK if I go under a little, but I refuse to until the very last month. Then I plan on losing 7 or 8 lbs. They always laugh at me because literally my weight stays EXACTLY the same. Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

    Lower BMI

Hey weight loss buddies! I wondered if anyone has found themselves in a similar situation as myself. I meet the requirements for bcbs to cover my surgery. My bmi is 36.7 and I have sleep apnea with cpap machine. I am currently on month 2 of my 6 month supervised diet, but I calculated if I lose more than 6 lbs over the course of the 6 months, I will no longer be at the required 35 bmi. But also, insurance wants to see I can follow a plan and lise some weight beforehand. I feel like this is a real catch 22. Any thoughts? Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

    Lower BMI

I know! I think its pretty ridiculous that I have to make sure to limit my weight loss to 6 lbs over half a year. My friends were joking I should justwear weights to all my weigh ins. Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

    Antidepressants post op?

Zoloft really helped me! Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App
  22. That really pisses me off that they told you that! Seriously awful! Im glad you found somebody else. As far as going off meds, I think ut would depend on what you are on meds for. I take a very low dose SSRI. I only began struggling with depression after getting post partum heart failure. I personally think its the beta blocker causing the mild depression and think if surgery alliws me to stop the beta blocker, I might be able to stop the SSRI. Also, sometimes depression can be handled through healthy eating and exercise. However, I think any reduction in mental health medication should be strictly doctor supervised and expectations realistic. Good luck! Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App
  23. I was so glad my gym had a "movie" workout room. It was completely dark. I relied on that room for a while, I'll admit. Now I just hit a point in my life where I just don't care what people think. Hope you can get there because its so liberating! Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App
  24. Hello all, I have just recently begun researching the different bariatric options for weight loss. I am currently the heaviest I have ever been. I am 197 and a little under 5'2". This puts my BMI right at 37. I realize that is not super high, though I'm curious about the comorbid thing. I have disc degeneration and a herniated disc, so I had to have 360 lumbar fusion surgery 2 years ago. Also, after my last pregnancy 4 years ago, I developed a stress on my heart, which has now led to lifetime medication to keep blood pressure in check. My yearly echos show my heart is doing fine and shows no abnormality, but every time we try to get off the meds, my blood pressure goes up. Additionally, after that pregnancy, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have been wearing a mask for about 2 1/2 years. I have gained 22 pounds this year, but I started Zoloft for lack of energy and motivation. It helped some, but I've been gaining so much weight! Between that and the blood pressure beta blocker I take, I'm really at a disadvantage for weight loss. However, what makes me not sure I'm a candidate, is that if I'm being REALLY honest, I'm mainly overweight because I have some sort of addiction to food I think. I just can't seem to get the control to say no. I get tired and don't feel like cooking dinner, so I stop by Whataburger, which wouldn't be that big of a deal if I hadn't had McDonalds for lunch! Anyway, I feel like most people that get this surgery have to have it because they have a physical reason they can't lose weight, not just because they can't stop over eating. I wish I could stick to a good, healthy diet. I keep failing, so part of me feels until I can have better self control, I just deserve to be this way. It's just frustrating sometimes. Sorry for the vent!
