WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!
Treadmillwalker replied to Typhanie85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would try intermittent fasting. Search here on BP as there has been previous discussions. Also, too much Protein will convert to sugar and store as fat if not burned off. Good luck. Lap-banded and love it! -
two and half years out
Treadmillwalker replied to dannilynn1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Start with water to wake up your system. Then a protein shake or something easy on your system such as scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc. Lap-banded and love it! -
Unsolicited advice
Treadmillwalker replied to Lauraazucena's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Human nature is a funny thing. Focus on the work you need to do to eat healthier and exercise. When people see the results you can decide what to share. People know I am working hard to eat healthier. I don't mention my lap band because it is only one tool. Counting calories, low carb, high Protein, turning down dessert. Those things they see me doing. Lap-banded and love it! -

Sugar free cakes, cookies, sweets in general
Treadmillwalker replied to tigraq08's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've not tried this, but heard of people buying a sugar free cake mix and mixing it with 12 oz diet soda. Only these 2 ingredients. Bake as muffins or muffin tops or as a cake according to time and temp on the box. When cool top with sugar free frosting or Cool Whip. I have not tried this yet. -

I agree. I haven't heard of the either and they don't appear to change behavior. Plus the emptying system strikes me as gross. -
Menopause and lapband
Treadmillwalker replied to Carla M's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Are you tracking your food intake and looking at your calories? I entered menopause in the past year and I'm losing 2 pounds a week with minimal exercise currently. I have bad knees and hope to exercise once I'm down 50 pounds. I had lap band in mid October and I'm losing 10 pounds a month. Look at the quality and quantity of what you are eating. Carbs will sit on the hips easily. Focus on protein, low carb veggies and water. Good luck. -
Denied 6 days before surgery
Treadmillwalker replied to gorgeous_vhamm's topic in Insurance & Financing
Is the insurance through an employer? Did it change the plan coverage for 2017? Call the employers benefits manager and ask for information. You can appeal to BCBS if WLS is still a covered benefit. You need to determine this first. Good luck! -
Stick with soft foods such as fish, soup, tuna salad, etc. Avoid bread, steak, Chew really well and eat slowly. These tips will help it not be obvious to your friends.

Sleeve or lap band
Treadmillwalker replied to shon74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had lap band surgery in October. I'm losing 10 pounds a month and happy with this amount. I was not looking for a quick dramatic change. I wanted a tool to help me lose weight. My surgeon installed my band making a small pouch (stoma or stomach) he then pulled up my stomach and stitched it to my band to prevent slippage. I have a 10 cc band and I have 5.5 cc in it. This is the perfect amount for me. My doctor uses a fluoroscope to monitor against any slippage or erosion. The band does require more awareness. If I eat too fast or don't chew well enough I do spit up. This has taught me to chew, chew, chew and eat slower. I'm happy with my band, but realize it isn't for everyone. -
Tracking helps you be consistent

I use My Fitness Pal. Tracking Protein, carbs and calories is helping me lose weight. -
Don't beat yourself up. Tell her you are eating healthier and on the day she spoke to you, you were just getting over a mild case of food poisoning. Then in a very positive tone tell her you are working to lose weight and be more active. If she asks how tell her what you are eating and doing for exercise. Don't mention the surgery unless you want it known. Also, if you mention the surgery be prepared to live it every time she sees you. Stay positive. This is about you and your life.

When I was growing up my mother would do the Rotation Diet whenever she needed to lose a few pounds. I don't know what her calorie count was, but I remember she would follow it for a week or two rotating through a three day cycle. I now do it periodically and eat 800 one day, 1000 the next and 1200 the third and then repeat the rotation. I read this article about a similar concept called intermittent fasting. One version, eat only 500 to 600 calories on two nonconsecutive days and eat normal the other days. Another option normal one day, next mini-fast, and third day only eat during certain hours. Some people are very strict six days and then take Sunday off. This type of eating plan doesn't work for everyone, especially people with diabetes, etc. I think it works for some people because is switches things up and keeps our metabolism confused. Interesting option. Banded 10/12/16

Stay positive!
Treadmillwalker replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you both! Life is short, I want to be happy and reach my goals. -
Completely normal. Each day will get better. Walk around the house to help get rid of anesthesia. Water is key the first week. Don't get dehydrated. Protein shakes once you feel a little better tomorrow. Water, water, water...Sip, sip, sip.

Not losing weight 1 year banded
Treadmillwalker replied to banded_gal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I count calories, eat low carb and high protein, and track everything. If you eat bread, potatoes, rice, cake, sweets, etc lap band or not you are not going to lose weight. You have to change your habits. The lap band is only one tool. Sorry not a miracle. -
I remind myself of this daily. Also, I remind myself what I eat in private l wear in public. My fat shows.

Protein shakes liquid or food?
Treadmillwalker replied to augustgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The goal of the protein is to help you feel full longer. I think if you drink too soon before or after you are deluding the protein shake and not getting the benefit. IMHO -
Stay strong. You can do it! Your goal is bigger than your appetite.
