I've seen the ads on TV, and I'm wondering if it works. It might be a fun Christmas gift to buy myself. Thoughts? Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Strange issues after sleeve surgery anyone?
Treadmillwalker replied to Jacquelene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Green pee - are you eating asparagus, green Beans, etc. How about drinking Crystal Light lemonade? These combos cause it for me. Lap-banded and love it! -
Hello October 2016 Bandsters. I'm 4.5 months post op approximately and down 50 pounds. I still struggle with portion distortion. I plate too much food and then realize I can't and should not eat it all. I'm trying to train myself to dish up smaller portions and remind myself that I can go back for more if I'm still hungry after 20 minutes. For me this means dishing up one cup of chili and eating it before going back for a second cup. Sometimes I eat too fast and feel pain in my band. I'm working on this issue too in terms of not letting myself get too hungry before I next week. Six small meals a day seems to work better for me (3 meals and 2 snacks) versus trying to only eat three meals a day. I hope you are all doing well.

Employer BCBS doesn't cover bariatric surgery
Treadmillwalker replied to queenkudela's topic in Insurance & Financing
It can depend on which level of the plan you have. For example my employer's BCBS plan does not cover WLS on the Gold plan which is the plan that costs the most in premium and pays the best benefits. The Silver plan does cover WLS, but there is a $5,000 deductible plus some things are not covered. Check with your company's benefit coordinator. Lap-banded and love it! -

Has anyone been sleeved twice?
Treadmillwalker replied to nessa87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What do you think will change with another surgery? Before doing another surgery perhaps you should see someone about food addiction. You currently have only 20% of your stomach and you are still overeating and making poor food choices. Surgery won't sew your mouth closed or lock the cabinets and stop you from buying fast food. The issue is not a failed surgery, but instead the will to sacrifice and make the healthy changes you need to. Another surgery is expensive and not guaranteed to work if you haven't changed your eating and exercise after having 80% of your stomach already removed. Look deeper at yourself--what do you need to internally change? Lap-banded and love it! -

Band vs Sleeve
Treadmillwalker replied to bloomie85's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Surgical techniques have significantly improved to help reduce slippage. My surgeon is the chairperson of a bariatric center of excellence and holds an officer position on a national bariatric association. I trust his confidence in the band and the surgery techniques he performed. That does not mean there is a guarantee that I won't someday have an issue, but the possibility of issues exists with all WLS. I'm losing 10 pounds a month and feel great. I don't have any regrets about my decision. Lap-banded and love it! -
Stretching the sleeve: Myth or True?!

Someone posted about this and included a video from a doctor. Look in the post sleeve forum for stretching out the sleeve. Lap-banded and love it! -
@rmonique regarding Trouble with Friends
Treadmillwalker posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Some times someone who we thought was our friend only hung out with us because in some way they felt superior to us. We were the fat friend they looked smaller standing beside. Be polite, but distance yourself. The person may be looking for a new way to feel superior to you so they will create drama, tell stories and sabotage. I've been in your shoes. Keep your chin up, but don't trust the person. -
@JustWatchMe - congratulations! This is one of my goals. Lap-banded and love it!

It takes more than a day...

I was banded in October and I'm losing 10 pounds a month. I do weigh more than you. I count calories and track my food. I eat high Protein and low carb. Example Greek FF yogurt, 1 Splenda sweetener, some blueberries for Breakfast. lunch and dinner chili or Soup or salad with protein and a veggie. I stay around 1000 calories a day. Sometimes I go to 1300, but that is special occasion. I still struggle to exercise consistently. I'm happy with my band.

Improvements have been made to prevent slippage, but there is no guarantee. My band was placed and my stomach pulled gently up and sown around my band. I've only had two fills, both while using a fluoroscope. I have 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band and I'm in my sweet spot. I'm losing 10 pounds a month. I feel great, and don't see the doctor again until my 1 year anniversary. Licensed, skilled, US bariatric physicians are still placing the band. Yes, not every physician, but many. I know several people, including many on this site, who have the band and have done well.
-
I disagree. I had a lap band placed in October and went through a bariatric center of excellence. My doctor serves on a national bariatric board. It is an FDA approved procedure and improvement has been made to the surgery to prevent slippage. Some physicians don't perform because they don't want to mess with fills and maintenance. I'm doing great with my band.

Great reminder
Treadmillwalker replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Talk to your house mates and kids. My husband (who is not overweight) eats his snacks after I head up to bed. If he is going to eat pizza we buy the personal size. I make a point of eating before him on the night we eat different food. I leave the kitchen and since I'm full his pizza doesn't bother me. Talk with everyone and ask for their help. Brainstorm ideas. Do your children need a healthier diet? Maybe everyone needs a reboot. Good luck. -

6 month supervised diet plan
Treadmillwalker replied to Newsoulz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBC Anthem I took 6 months of monthly classes through a bariatric center of excellence. It took an hour each month in addition to the weigh in with the dietician. It was about education and training. There were PowerPoints and handouts. Things to prepare you pre and post surgery. It is about what behavior changes you make for the rest of your life. I don't know if PCP spend that much time each appointment with the patient and go through that much training and education with the patient. Lap-banded and love it! -
