The American Psychological Association says willpower is “the ability to resist short-term temptations in order to meet long-term goals.” I'm working to remind myself of the above quote whenever head hunger tries to take over my thoughts. Murmuring to myself..."move away from the bread basket." Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Protein selection

I like unjury. It is expensive. Given the reduced amount of food I'm eating I want it to be the highest quality. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -

Protein Shakes Ugh!
Treadmillwalker replied to kmamaward's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier Protein was suggested by my bariatric dietician as a good option. Price and availability make it a good option for many I know. I keep the pre made on hand at work and I appreciate the convenience. I use unjury and nectar powders at home. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -

Are you getting in your Protein via shakes? I agree you need to chat with your health care team. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -
My BMI of 53 and my hypothyroidism were my only two health conditions. I worked with the bariatric team, attended 6 months of classes and documented my previous weightloss efforts. The doctor's office then built the case for me needing surgery and presented it to the insurance company and I was approved. I encourage you to work closely with the health care team as they are your greatest advocates with the insurance company. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Undecided on what to do
Treadmillwalker replied to bigsexy28sc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not to hurt your feelings, but you likely look as big as you weigh. We tell ourselves we don't and family and friends will say we don't, but we do. A friend recently told me my jeans looked painted on when I mentioned I was having lapband surgery. It stung. She said she didn't tell me before because I complained about my weight and clothes, but this was the first time I mentioned I was scheduled for lapband and she felt she could say the truth. Think about how you look and feel now. Don't think about the past or the reasons that brought you to today. How do you feel right now? Do your knees hurt? How is your back? What about getting out of breath? Does your chest hurt? Are you able to get down on the floor to play with your child? Now decide if a surgical tool will help you versus no intervention. Regardless you will have to eat less, move more, change your habits to lose weight. Now look at yourself and think if you have the "consistent" ability and willingness to sacrifice to reach your goal without surgery. For me I knew I needed help to be consistent. I had gone off the wagon too many times and years are going by. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -
Banded October 19th
Treadmillwalker replied to midgelovescookies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 10/12. I'm watching my calories, Protein intake and Water. It is easy to overdo on calories IMHO. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -
I found this recipe on Pinterest. I haven't made it yet. Low-Carb Deconstructed pizza Casserole (Makes 6 servings; recipe created by Kalyn) Ingredients: 1 can (14.5 oz.) diced tomatoes (do not use petite dice) 5 links (19.5 oz.) uncooked turkey Italian sausage (I used my favorite turkey Italian sausage; use hot or sweet, whichever you prefer.) 2 tsp. + 2 tsp. olive oil 1/2 tsp. dried oregano salt and fresh-ground pepper to taste (I didn't use much salt.) 8-12 oz. fresh mushrooms, washed and cut into thick slices 1 1/2 cups grated Mozzarella cheese (part-skim or low fat mozzarella) 15 slices pepperoni, cut in half (turkey pepperoni if you prefer) Instructions: Preheat oven to 400F/200C. Spray a 8 inch x 11 inch glass casserole dish with non-stick spray or olive oil. Pour the diced tomatoes into a colander placed in the sink and rinse with cold Water. Let tomatoes drain a minute or two, then spread them out on paper towels to dry (or blot dry with another paper towel on top.) While tomatoes dry, heat 2 tsp. olive oil in a large non-stick frying pan, squeeze the sausage out of the casing, and cook sausage over medium-high heat until it's nicely browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. (I use an old-fashioned potato masher to break the sausage apart.) While sausage cooks, wash mushrooms, pat dry, and slice into thick slices. When the sausage is done make a layer of sausage in the bottom of the casserole dish and top with the drained tomatoes, spreading them out over the top of the sausage. Season with dried oregano, salt, and fresh-ground black pepper. (I didn't use much salt.) Rinse out the pan if needed, then heat the other 2 tsp. of olive oil over medium-high heat. When the pan is hot add the mushrooms and cook, stirring a few times, until all the liquid is released and the mushrooms are starting to brown. Layer the mushrooms over the sausage-tomato mixture. Cut pepperoni in half. Sprinkle the grated Mozzarella over the top of the casserole and lay the pepperoni pieces on top of the cheese, spacing them evenly so the whole top is covered with pepperoni. Bake about 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and starting to brown. Serve hot.

The haters are going to hate. We can't control others, we can only control ourselves and our behavior. I've experienced negativity on this site and made the decision to take the high ground. It is unfortunate when people make insulting statement. I have integrity, ethics, honesty and the best of intentions for everyone to reach their potential on my side. Treat everyone with respect. Pick through the opinions, and don't take them to heart. The posts are sound bites and don't give the full picture. Best wishes to you. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -

I think people should work with their medical team. The comments everyone shares on this site and other sites are opinions, and should not replace the medical advice of your physician and health care team. We are all only sharing what we heard or our experiences. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -
I heard the body can only absorb 30 grams of Protein at a time and after that it is expensive pee or can store as fat. I'm not sure how far apart the protein consumption is suppose to be. I consume 90 to 100 grams a day. I look forward to reading what others have heard. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Regaining weight... please help
Treadmillwalker replied to eajk0709's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The dietician I work with said by not drinking when you eat it helps the Protein stay in your pouch longer and makes you feel full longer. I am not yet to the sweet spot in my restriction. I will need two to four more lapband fills before I know if this works on me. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -

I'm sorry... But as a lap band patient, I keep seeing you post about bypass and sleeves and I tend to disagree with pretty much everything you're saying. In NO world does ANY NUT or Doctor recommend 300-600 calories a day for the first three months. NEVEE EVER EVER. IF you want to pass information along, please say "in my opinion", or "I THINK", or "I may have heard..." But to the pre-op and newly post op sleeves and bypass patients-- This is false information. One protein shake by J Robb is 110 cal mixed with one cup of skim milk is 91 cal for a total of 201 cal. Are you telling me that at 2-3 months all a person is consuming is 1 1/2 to 2 shakes??? Nothing else??? Please please be careful. People will read your posts and get misinformation. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thank you for your post. I did mention the dietician who leads my support group shared those calorie guidelines. I don't think she was lying nor am I. We all have different experiences and medical professionals guiding us. Best wishes to you in your journey. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -

I had lapband. The dietician who leads my support group said 300 to 600 is average for sleeve and bypass the first three months. Again, focusing on Protein first. With lapband I eat between 600 and 1000 calories a day knowing my weightloss will be slower. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -
