I started gaining weight in my late 20s as my husband and I struggled to have children without success. Through numerous surgeries, hormone treatments, pills, shots, in vitro procedures and miscarriages I found myself lost in the process of trying to have a baby. With each failed attempt, I turned to food to help soothe the pain. After trying for years, I finally accepted my husband and I would not be blessed with children; however, I didn’t change my lifestyle. I continued to eat comfort foods and work in a sedentary job. I could not understand how I can be successful in so many other areas of my life, but not control my weight. I decided to take it on as I did when I earned my college degrees (I have a bachelor of science, a master’s degree, and a postmaster’s certificate) or any project at work. I started researching physicians in the area, insurance requirements, surgery options, lifestyle changes and more. In January 2016, I made the commitment to have lapband surgery and started on my journey. My surgery was on October 12, 2016.
