    Come On SC!

Hey guys! I am currently in New Mexico but, we are moving to Charleston in May. My hubby is in the Air Force. I would love to meet people from around SC. I dont have much of a support group here. It is sad but it seems like in my doctors office if you didnt go the bypass route, well you are an outcast. They are extremely pleasant and all but it seems like they try to apply all rules for bypass to banding and that is just not the case. ( Sorry, got on a tangent) Anyway, I am famliar with parts of SC already. My husband is from the Greenville area and we also have famliy in Columbia. I look forward to talking to you guys and if you have any suggestions for bariatric doctors in the area please let me know! Thanks!

Back to Liquids & Mushies? Confused!

I have only had one fill and I felt like I was starting all over again. It took me a couple of weeks to feel " normal" again. If we ever feel normal. It will go away though and you can go back to eating.

    Anyone with IR or PCOS

I have PCOS and I have had great results from this surgery. I have lost 42lbs since October 10. I too am taking metformin 500mg2xdaily. I have not developed diabetes yet thank goodness. My cholesterol number have been cut in more than half. Needless to say I am more than pleased with my decision to have this surgery. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

    Help..

Dear Konphident, I know how hard it is to be young and carry that much weight around. Although I carry mine around on a 6' frame, I know what it feels like. MIf you are truly passionate about persuing this I would go talk to another doctor. Although, I must caution you....I have not seen this "regulation" with my own two eyes but, if your life long dream is to join the military, you might want to invest the money in a trainer and see if you cant get the weight off that way. My husband and I are stationed at Holloman Air Force Base, NM. I know how picky the military is about surgeries and I asked my hubby if they would accept you after having weight loss surgery and unless he is mistaken the answer, I am sorry to say is no. You might consider talking to a recruiter about this before you have surgery. On the other hand, I am so very happy that I have had my surgery. I truly believe that it has saved my life. I guess talk to a different doctor and do your homework as far as the military is concerned. Good luck to you and if you need to talk there are so very many cool people here that are so very supportive. Good Luck!!!!!:Bunny

    Holy Cow!

Lee Ann, My before numbers were as follows: Before After Triglycerides 1142 451 Total Chol. 292 126 HDL/CHol. ratio 8.2 (extremely high risk) 3.8 (average risk) As you can see, wow what a difference! I still need to work on my triglycerides but wow! I am going to have bloodwork done again in three months. I hope that it only gets better! If I had any doubts about this, I can see now I definitely made the right decision. The best of luck to you!

There are a few foods that I have been told not to eat. One thing that is on the top of the list is carbonated drinks. I miss my diet cokes! I am not missing the inches I have lost off of my body though! Also, foods that normally give you gas are not a good idea. I was told to steer clear of brocolli and cauliflower, they are real gassy. I have had brocolli in a healthy choice meal and it was ok. I have basically been able to eat anything I want. I just have to be careful still about tough, dry meats, they cause me a little discomfort. I have not been brave enough to try carbonated drinks. I have seen on some websites where people are evenrually able to have a soda. I just havent been brave enough. I have read on this website alot of different things people are eating. I think the farther you get from your surgery the easier it is to eat different things. The thing I would stress to you is if you decide to do this, what ever you eat, chew chew chew. That will make your life alot easier! I am also finding out that different doctors will tell you different things as far as what to try and what not to try. My guess would be that you can have basically whatever you want except the sodas. That seems to be a universal no-no. Start out slow everyone reacts differently to different foods. I hope that this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Still not hungry

I was banded on October 10 of this year and for me my hunger still comes and goes. It is definitely not the same kind of hunger as not being banded. I find that if I have warm liquids or soup it jump starts my stomach into thinking I am hungry. I dont know if that makes sense but it works for me. Just be careful and make sure you are eating something. Your body will figure it out.

Hey guys, just thought I would let you know about my experience thus far. I was banded October 10 of this year. II was a little uncomfortablefor a few days after my surgery. It was nothing that I couldnt take Tylenol for and live through. The hardest part for me I must say was the gas pain in the shoulder from the surgery. This does pass quickly. I was also really wanting solid foods much sooner than my doctor wanted me to start on them. I have had one fill since my surgery and my experience was that I had to start all over again in my food eating process. I had to do liquids for a few days longer than the nurse instructed. Everything went well though. So far, I have lost 35 lbs and I feel great. I already have more energy and I need it to chase around my eight month old! I have me regrets! This is working for me and I think has more than likely saved my life! Good luck in your journey. If you have any questions I will be happy to talk to you about my experience!
