JulieNOLA replied to taurus71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm also at week 7 and have plateaued the past week and a 1/2. I've been trying to stay off of the scale as much as I can and just stick to my program. I know it will come off eventually! High weight April 16 - 266, Day of surgery 9/27/16 - 240, Current weight 213. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I HAD GASTRIC BYPASS SEPTEMBER 22 from Grimsley TN
JulieNOLA replied to Tammy3826's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was 9/27/16 RNY - I continue to struggle with Water and Protein too! I bought a big clear mug that holds 32 ounces. I find it's helping me to see the cup and know I need to keep drinking. Before I had bottles of water all over and wasn't really interested or measuring because I felt so miserable. I'm finally tolerating my Protein shakes again! I had the most awful sour/bitter taste for the first 2 wks and everything tasted horrible. But the shakes still taste SO sweet. At least I'm getting the protein in! My other food intake is so very minimal. A few bites and I'm sooo full. I know it'll take time. Enjoying the weight loss. Down about 25 lbs so far. Best of luck to everyone! I've been wearing my Vitamin Patches for 4 days now. They are so easy! No chewing and swallowing vitamins!???????????? I have VERY sensitive skin and have allergies to most adhesives, so I was a little nervous to try them. But I've had no issues so far and you wear them for 12 hrs a day! I do 8a-8p. I have had any come unstuck either! Wanted to share for anyone else considering trying them. It runs about $70/month. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Loving my vitamin patches!
JulieNOLA replied to JulieNOLA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it's the BariatricPal Store. I bought the pack of 4 Patches for Gastric Bypass patients. My doctor's office has seen success with them though others on here say not to buy them. I'm giving them a chance. I'll use them until my first set of labs that measure for them & see how it goes. Not having to chew & swallow Vitamins is awesome! My journey began in April 2016
JulieNOLA replied to JulieNOLA's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a lap band in 2008 and had many issues with it. I met w/ my surgeon to discuss options. Having gained the weight back I had lost 8 yrs prior, I wanted to be sure I didn't do it again. I chose RNY because of the dumping syndrome. It may sound crazy to some. But I wanted to always have that in my mind to keep me on track and avoiding the fatty or sweet foods. I knew with the sleeve that it would be much easier to fall back into old habits & I want this change to be for life. Also, I knew I'd lose more w/ the RNY. I have MS and 3 herniated discs and getting the weight off is crucial to my mobility and health. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I met with my surgeon in April and had my RNY on Sept 27, 2016. Yesterday made 3 wks post-op! I'm so thrilled that I had the surgery. I have tough days dealing with nausea and fatigue. I'm so thankful I haven't vomited one though! Here's my progress: May: 264 Day of surgery: 240 Today: 218 Not sure if the pics are attached or not. But I feel great and can't wait to keep going with my journey! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I think i dumped and i think i know why!
JulieNOLA replied to Ninni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had a dumping episode yet - almost 3 weeks out. Sorry you had to go through that! Like you said, we all will be in learning mode for a long time! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Sounds like your doctor needs to do an EGD. Sometimes the opening to the new stomach pouch is too small and has to be stretched open with a balloon a bit. Happened to my mom post-op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Finally ate at a restaurant today!
JulieNOLA posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To anyone who hasn't been on our journey, it sounds silly. But I am 12 days post-op & went out with family today for lunch. Though I only had egg drop Soup, it felt like a small victory!!! I was able to "eyeball" the small soup, knew when to stop and it was a great feeling! I know for many on here, they are moving through stages very fast. My medical group is conservative & I've followed it to the "T". Today was great affirmation that I'm making good progress! I also had strained fat free cream of chicken soup for dinner and all went well! For anyone whose needing a "sweet fix", I wanted to share something I've made for years. My husband is diabetic. So you use I box of sugar free Jello instant pudding, 1/2 of the milk called for and mis them together. Then add a tub of sugar free cool-whip. It comes out the consistency of a mouse, is delicious and very satisfying with hardly any calories at all! chocolate, pistachio and cheesecake are our 3 favs! Best of luck to everyone!!! Remember mayo is fat & Avacado is fat. Your two causes for dumping is fat and sugar. So I wouldn't put them together. Try mashing avocado and blending it down smooth like a pudding. Leave out mayo Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've come across many people on here who seem lost as to what they should be drinking, eating and how much/how often. I came across this and thought it might help somebody. It's just 5 pages, but very informative! http://bariatrics.ucla.edu/workfiles/UCLA-Bariatric-postoperative-diet-instructions.pdf Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Finally ate at a restaurant today!
JulieNOLA replied to JulieNOLA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think totally avoiding could set you up for a binge possibly. Small APPROPRIATE sweet treats now and then seems like a reasonable plan. My mom and brother have IBS. My mom has had gastric bypass and does great with the mousse and other sugar free Desserts. You just need portion control and moderation on frequency from her experience. I've never been a binge eater. So I guess I can't really relate regarding eating a huge amount of something. But I do get cravings. When it's that time of the month, I crave chocolate like crazy. I found the think think brownie bites (as an example) during the months before surgery and would eat 2 or 3 bites and be fine (3g sugar per bite). Can't eat those now of course. But I'm committed to finding ways to follow my new dietary rules and still feel happy, satisfied and healthy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I haven't eaten any of the Jello mousse either. Was just sharing the recipe. But I am equally terrified of dumping syndrome! Nothing is worth that feeling in my book! But, with this mousse being very low fat & sugar free it's a nice option. I have many diabetics in my family and instead of cakes for birthdays, we typically have fresh fruit and the jello mouse as options. I actually have low blood sugar - reactive hypoglycemia. So, I kind of know what dumping feels like. Don't ever want to do that to myself intentionally! I wish you luck with your surgery! I'm thrilled I had it done! Yes, my doc said it was spasms where the new pouch and intestines attach for the lower pain & a kind of heartburn type pain from the new suture line on the pouch for the upper one. Now on Pantoprazole (like Nexium or Prilosec) and liquid Carafate (prescription only) that coats everything to protect from acid. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Possibly not getting enough fluids. Dehydration can cause dizziness. Change positions slowly & it will help your body accommodate better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Take milk of magnesia. But be prepared that the stool in your system will likely be very hard. The longer it sits in your intestinal tract, the more Water gets absorbed. If MOM doesn't work, you could try dulcolax, glycerin suppositories, etc. MOM doesn't cause the cramping & pain the others can. (P.S. I am a RN & a RNY patient too.) Good luck and hope you feel better! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Had mine 9/27. Realize everybody goes by what they've been given by their doc & nutrition and it seems to have broad variation on here as you said. I say take it slow when advancing and when in doubt contact your medical team. Best of luck - it'll get easier with time I hear Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
