    Time your eating

My plan states 20 minutes for a snack and 30 for a meal. I always use a scale.

Do I tell or say nothing.

I only told 3 friends and 2 family members. Only 1 of them knew before the surgery. Although I knew everyone would be supportive, I didn't want to be the centre of attention and discussion. I did tell everyone I was working on weight loss with a nutritionist and that I've changed the way eat to 3 small meals and 2 snacks each day.
  3. I started with regular coffee after 6 weeks. I have one or two a day with no problem.

    Alcohol

My plan says no alcohol for 6 months because of irritation to stomach. After that it warns about empty calories, etc.

    Post op- multivitamins

I was to take them after the 3rd week.

    Bathroom help

Depends on how long once you have gone. Don't let it go too long. Those things didn't work for me but ducolax did. I needed two of them. Now Milk of Magnesia works and I take it every three days. Be sure to drink lots of water with whatever you take.

    Food Aversions

I did experience aversion to food. I wasn't nauseated, but just couldn't stand eating. At about the five week mark I found a couple of things that tasted okay. Then thing started improving and I can eat now. At my worst, yogurt seemed to go down without a problem. I also had peanut butter on Melba toast or 1/2 a toasted English muffin. I love milk, so that helped.
  8. You may be having gas pain which is brutal. If that is what it is, try and walk every hour so it will pass. If you are worried, call the doctor.

    Breakfast?

I found this back bacon that gives 20 grams of protein for 5 thin slices. I have it will 1/2 an English muffin. I also sometimes have 1/2 an English muffin with peanut butter or melted cheese. I like eggs, but can't have them every day. Some days I have a Greek yogurt.
  10. You will get used to it. My nutritionist says I can drink up to 15 minutes before eating if it does not fill me up so I can't eat the meal. It is a habit and after a while it becomes second nature.
  11. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago. I was lucky because I had no pain or nausea. The first 2 weeks the gerd was excruciating. It was worse when I would try and drink water. It resolved after two weeks but then came constipation. It was brutal and painful and made me feel unwell. Both these things I had not experienced before. I now have figured how to deal with it successfully. The fluid stage went well but I hated the purée phase. I couldn't handle puréed meat. Meeting the protein and fluid goals are another challenge. I'm still working on it, but it is getting easier. For a few weeks, I really didn't want to eat. Things just didn't taste right. I now have found things that taste good and I enjoy. I'm full with just eating a little and Saturday satisfied. This is not easy. Everyone faces their own challenges. I did this to be healthier. For those of you struggling, remember, it will get better.
  12. I found meatballs in marinara sauce easy to get down and tasty. You can make up a few and heat a couple in the microwave. They have lots of protein.

    Soup?

My program states no soup once you are on solids. The nutritionist said it's because the liquid in soup does empty faster and it's hard to meet your protein goal. She said if you do have soup it should be thick full of protein and veggies, mor like a stew with a minimum of broth.
  14. I'm 5 weeks post op. I've been very lucky because I didn't experience any pain or nausea. The gerd resolved after 2 weeks. I'm never hungry which is great, but I really have a difficult time eating. Nothing tastes okay and I have to force myself to eat something. Has this happened to you and if so, did it get better.
  15. My nutritionist also mentioned having grains each day, so a piece of bread or some Melba toast or crackers are part of my program.
  16. With Thanksgiving coming up, I was wondering if people can eat a bit of stuffing? Also my program allows for toasted high fibre bread. My nut says bread that isn't toasted gets stuck. Can some people eat bread, wraps or pita bread?
  17. I'm in week 4 since my surgery. Never had a problem with constipation before. It's been an issue for the past two weeks. I've tried many different approaches to no avail. I currently care mor about constipation than losing weight. For those who had a similar experience, did it ease up once you got past purée foods?

    Is my goal weight achievable?

I had my surgery weighing 338 lbs. and I'm about your height. I will lose all my excess weight. I'm in control and determined. My new stomach will help me because I'm not hungry and I fill up quickly. It is my choice to easy properly and exercise. My surgery as mid October. By March 11th when you have your surgery I will be 5 months in and hopefully a lot lighter.
  19. I also suffered from gerd for the first time after surgery. Drinking water, even warm water made it worse. It passed after two weeks thankfully.

    Advice

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. Things have gone well until this week.. I have become constipated. I've tried purée prunes, dring water and coffee, milk of magnesia. These things usually worked. I tried to get in touch with my surgeon today but couldn't reach him. I don't want t wait until Monday and have a miserable weekend. Has anyone been told by their doctor they could use miralax or restoralax or anything else and if so, how did it work. I'm desperate.

    Advice

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I tried some prune juice and restoralax (same as miralax) yesterday and it worked. I am going to monitor carefully so I don't get like that again if I can help it. I'm adding benefibre to my water and alternating days of prune juice and restoralax to see if I can get back on track. I feel so much better today
  22. I had the sleeve because I didn't want to risk complications that can happen with the bypass. My surgery was October 17th. I never experienced gerd before but did have it rather severely for the first 2 weeks and strangely it was worse when drinking water. That has thankfully passed. I have a high BMI but I'm ok with not losing quite as fast as with bypass. Maybe it will help with lose skin. I am determined to lose all my excess weight, not the 65-70% average predicted.

    Gerd

I've never experienced reflux before my surgery. Now I get it from even drinking water. I haven't yest started on purée foods. Is it likely to improve once I start eating food to absorb the acid?

    Slider Foods

Some people have mentioned slider foods. What are they and how do they work with the eating program?

    Eating Out

I haven't told many people about my surgery. I have told everyone I am on a very strict diet program. It is not a problem when I am at home. How do you handle eating with a group of people and you have such a small amount on your plate? Also, for those who had their surgery over a year ago, when eating in a restaurant would you likely eat half a portion? What about when someone has you to a dinner party?
