questions about the beginning of sleeve process in au
ShinyLady replied to anewmee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in Aus too. My surgeon required an initial consult, wait a month (to think about it and research) and then could book at next consult. I had routine blood tests taken before surgery. My surgeon also required dietician visits. (Just one before... and each stage after). I was given the number of an exercise therapist and psych but these were optional. We are not required to have the same level of diet and psych prep as in USA as is automatically covered by private health fund (if you have one that covers it). Depending on your personal circumstances/medical history, your surgeon may require you to have other tests e.g. sleep apnea, ECG. They usually also require the scope (via throat to check out stomach). Some do it a couple weeks before but mine did this at the beginning of surgery while I was under general. They seem to vary by personal choice on Pre-op diet. Usually Optifast 2-4 weeks before surgery. My time is NOW! -
Extra calcium will be post-op as you can't get enough through food then. (Probably a couple of weeks after.) You're already getting extra now through Optifast. Cheers [emoji3] My time is NOW!

I wouldn't think so. The pre-op diet is mainly for liver shrinking purposes for ease of access to the op site. As long as you are sticking to the diet that shrinking should happen. Also you say next week... so there's a good chance you will lose more by then. I lost 4.8 (BMI 41) on the 2 week pre-op diet. My Dr was pleased with that. [emoji3] Good luck to you [emoji4] My time is NOW!

Average weight loss
ShinyLady replied to kidchick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have chronic spinal stenosis + and grade 4 osteoarthritis in my knees and was steered towards G Sleeve due to the ongoing need for NSAIDS. 95lbs to lose. 52 yo. Cannot take NSAIDS with RNY so I also find it interesting that the back specialist suggested RNY. My time is NOW! -

Hi there, I can't read my messages. I can see a list of them. I can see a got a new one yesterday but I cannot see content. It just says I read it a minute ago. I am on a laptop running Windows 7. On Samsung/Android phone the messages won't even load. Just have a spinning circle loading.

I was told that if you're happy with the size you are when wearing a bra (boobs all propped up) then you only need a lift (they rearrange your own tissue), if you think they are too small in a bra... then you need implants. My time is NOW!

Hi there, YES! Indeed I did. Dr Treacy. My time is NOW! -
Hi folks, Thought it was time to introduce myself as I have been lurking around the forums for a while and am starting to feel a bit like I'm stalking. First my stats for those on apps. HW 130 kg (286 lbs), CW 118 kg (260 lbs), BMI 39.5, height 173 cm (5' 8"), Surgery: Gastric sleeve on 18 January 2017. I live in Darwin (Australia) currently. Moved here from Sydney/Central Coast/Newcastle 3 years ago as my shiny new hubby is in the army. Grew up in Brisbane/Gold Coast. I am in adult education - teaching I.T. (programming and spreadsheets) and proud to be a nerd and a dog lover. I have been on the weight loss roller coaster for 35 years, having first joined Weight Watchers as a 15 year old. I have not been overweight all my life, although I feel like I have been. I look back at pictures now and can see that many times I lost 30 kg (66 lbs) or so and was around 75 kg and pretty slim (unfortunately I had a horrible husband back then who was there to tell me I was fat even when I wasn't!). Surprising I'm so sane now. Due (at least in part) to my excessive weight, I suffer from knee problems (has surgery on one 2 years ago, and waiting on replacement for the other), I also have lower back problems (bulging discs x 3 and stenosis x 2). I'm super lucky I don't have more medical problems than that. I feel I'm teetering on the edge of that. Need to get this weight off before I tip over the edge. I also took up scuba diving 3 years ago and I LOVE IT! Sadly I live in one of the only places in Australia where you can't get in the Water due to the excessive number of crocodiles. Currently I can only travel to places like Queensland to dive in summer as the water is warm enough to wear a stinger suit (lycra) rather than a wet suit that is needed for cooler/deeper dives. I'm too big to fit into a proper wet suit. Too big to do so many things. But this time next year... I won't be too big. Time to get off that roller coaster... Cheers, Debbie

2 Days Out - feeling pretty awful
ShinyLady replied to Holly McQuillan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Holly, I'm 3 days out. Yesterday I felt very awful but a tiny be better than day 1. Today I feel almost human. I was vomiting everything and not able to even have Water without MUCH pain. I just wanted to crawl in the corner and curl up. Last evening was better and today I feel like I'm going to get better. I'm just sticking to clear fluids for now and I find the anti-nausea much more helpful than the pain meds anyway. I'm allowed to have a shower today. They said I could yesterday after the doc had been but I just wasn't up to it. It will get better for you soon. xx My time is NOW! -
Pre-op diet, lost 20# in less than 2 months, feeling great....but.....
